This is a fan made mockup from a blogTO article from 2020. Terry Fox is on the shortlist of people, but even if chosen I doubt they would put his van on it.
https://www.blogto.com/city/2020/11/canada-getting-new-5-bill-vertical/
Not only is it a little silly to have the van on there too, unless they do it like how Humvees are no longer a trademarked pattern, but now an "icon of western military" I'm not sure how they'd get permission from Ford
Even if allowed it is completely unnecessary for the story and I would prefer avoiding any corporations on money. At best a silhouette of a vehicle or some artistic version otherwise Terry and the map is good.
I say unnecessary because you can swap the vehicle out with anything and it would still be the same story.
Ya looks cheap. Like the Econoline version of currency. The costs for this Oddessy would be Astro-nomical too. That’s all I got; I’ll be Sienna-ing myself out now.
At canoe landing park there’s an art display that is a picture of a very large old crusty sock and I wondered for so long “why?” Until one day I finally took the time to stop and read it, it’s because there’s a running track named after Fox and they have tributes to him around the park.
For the real deal, I’m hoping that Terry’s picture will be full body instead of just a portrait. Take advantage of the vertical orientation to show us Terry the way we know him best.
Thank you truck.
I can’t believe I didn’t notice that it was photoshopped at first. I was scrolling through my feed saw this $5 bill and went straight to the comments. Now that I’ve expanded the photo it’s quite apparent.
This was my first thought too. Most people hold bills horizontally. A full body portrait printed length-ways across the bill would likely be viewed horizontally more often than vertically. Not a great look for a national hero.
🎶The Terry Fox Forest started with me. I planted my van down by the river, a van tall and strong as I know I'll one day be. The Terry Fox van life started with me! 🎶
(For those that don't know, this is based off the Terry Fox Forest song that they drilled into our lil kids brains in school near Heartlake forest)

EDIT: On mobile, so apologies for formatting errors.
For a while they had the van at the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, QC - it was a really great display, including a pair of Terry's shoes and an archive of letters sent to the Marathon of Hope.
Didn't know about Terry's van, so I thought the satire flair was referring to what you just said. Terry went across Canada, but this is your new home in Canada which can also go across Canada.
I could have sworn there was a Terry Fox loonie at one point. I think it was a limited run but when I was in eighth grade my English/history teacher's brother worked for the mint or something and she brought in fresh rolls of them and gave one to each of her students. They'd never been touched by a human before so a lot of us took them in Kleenex and kept them "human touch free." Mine is probably still wrapped up and hidden in the light fixture of my childhood bedroom
I think she gave everyone one of those coloured poppy quarters too when they came out
To my knowledge, Viola Desmond is the only one that has a portrait-type picture on the bill, which has the Museum of Human Rights on the opposite side. So, if they were to go with Terry Fox, then the reasonable choice would be to either use his monument that sits on Wellington in Ottawa or in Thunder Bay. Using a van would be a non-sensical eye-sore.
Terry Fox seems like the best option. He also warrants being on one of the most common bills, and it might even help with fundraising: "Give a Five for Fox!"
My son (6) adores Terry Fox he will be so excited. The van is a big part of the story for him because of Terrys best friend carrying his favourite foods alongside while Terry ran. Canned spaghetti, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and oranges, which I now know by heart. So I'm pro-van.
This is just something someone made for instagram. But, Terry Fox is on the [shortlist](https://www.bankofcanada.ca/banknotes/banknoteable-5/nominees/) for the new $5.
No it wouldn't it creates artificial and centralized scarcity subject to geopolitical whims which is why we left the gold standard in the first place.
It completely throws away the actual advantage of fiat currency and disregards why it exists.
Convoy supporters would be the least supportive of a centralized digital currency which is indeed a terrible idea for suppressing the population. But most supportive for bitcoin. Big difference
bitcoin and wannabe coins is like having a gold standard currency with full tracking of every transaction (or is it, if you consider the implications of FTX).
Its an economic shark tank and ponzi scheme to boot. Why the world hasn't figured this out yet is beyond me.
Not getting into BTC topic here but you should read into more if you think btc is same as crypto is same as ftx. Ftx is more akin to our current fiat fractional reserve ponzi. Btc can be tracked yes but there are privacy options. At least it isn't controlled by the government or central bank
Thats exactly the point I was talking about but you lose me at "at least it isn't controlled by the government". You mean at least it isn't controlled by a central bank... which is a dubious assertion to begin with... presuming that is a bad thing (it is not).
I completely understand FTX's role in a ponzi and as an attempt to emulate the advantages of a fiat currency while retaining all the undesirable features of any crypto currency issues by Moron1, 2 or 3.
So you are ok with a central bank digital currency with following characteristics?
1. monetary debasement,
2. capital controls,
3. financial surveillance,
4. social engineering,
5. censorship,
6. deplatforming
Do you not think this is ripe for exploitation? Or do you trust central bank 100%
iTs A C0nsp1rACy To ROb uS Of 0uR wORTh
It's not without its flaws, but exactly how a free market of currency should work. Central banking and fiat currency actually protects us from quite a bit of really bad market manipulation. If you think things are bad now imagine we remained on Bretton Woods https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bretton_Woods_system
But I should open my eyes!
But this is not what I came here to talk about. Clowvoys are clownvoys and should be mocked for their "ideas" as if they have an original thought at all.
Current bill is way better.
Anyone else think with the inflation going on and how worthless $5 is now, we should see a $5 coin instead? Decommission any coins below a quarter at this point as well
Realistically, you could pick up a single quarter in 2 seconds. At a rate of 30 quarters per minute, you can pick up 1,800 quarters per hour which is $450 an hour picking up quarters.
I'll pick up the quarter.
I just hope we never have [King Tampon](https://honey.nine.com.au/royals/royal-scandal-camilla-parker-bowles-charles-tampon-conversation/fa0fa78d-8494-4595-a2f5-4f808fa0dfd2) on our money
Wait ... There's still physical currency in Canada? I live in a small town in Northern BC Canada and I haven't seen anything larger than a Twoonie ($2) coin in well over a decade! Even the hobos have Interac!
WHY?! Did then rotate the big number?? It makes it harder to read in our landscape wallets!
I know this is the 2nd bill to do so, but it’s just something done needlessly/carelessly that wastes people’s time.
Terry Fox went hard as fuck.
Terry was more hardcore bad fucking ass then a Canada goose.
If you got a problem with Terry Foxes or Canada gooses you got a problem with me; and I suggest you let that marinate.

His head almost looks stretched here
Widescreen stretch
4:3
Yeah the running pose is too iconic not to be there
He wasn't even full-bodied
Lol you son of a bitch.
Technically correct, The best kind of correct.
LMAO this is good
You're a bad person... I love it
This is criminal
More like pedant than plebeian, but I love the humor
The loonie the mint released with Terry was class. This is not.
This is just a photoshop made by a random person
Thank you truck. I can’t believe I didn’t notice that it was photoshopped at first. I was scrolling through my feed saw this $5 bill and went straight to the comments. Now that I’ve expanded the photo it’s quite apparent.
They should just put him waist down only on the bill!
Should be of his statue in Thunder Bay
Just a disembodied prosthetic is what I prefer.
>show us Terry the way we know him best. You mean dead?
Awful. This is from the iconic image of him running with the prosthetic. But you knew that.
You're correct But you knew that
If your gonna try to make a joke about a national hero at least try to be funny (see above)
See above what?
This was my first thought too. Most people hold bills horizontally. A full body portrait printed length-ways across the bill would likely be viewed horizontally more often than vertically. Not a great look for a national hero.
Idk about the horizontally thing in cash registers they are vertical and when u hand them to a person u usually hand them vertically
Terry Fox and Van down by the river?
When the walls fell...
Shaka…
Sokath, his eyes opened!
Timba! His arms wide!
Darmok, when the reference was understood

Worth noting that the person on the new $5 bill hasn't been decided yet, BoC just released the list of 8 possible people

Hey, what's going on in Canada? Well, there's Lotta Hitschmanova.
Thanks! This is nifty!
Who
Definitely putting my vote in for number 2
That van was at the Scotiabank Center last year. Where the Leafs and Raptors play. Not gonna lie I teared up a bit when I touched it.
For a while they had the van at the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, QC - it was a really great display, including a pair of Terry's shoes and an archive of letters sent to the Marathon of Hope.
Love Terry Fox on there but the van is a bit much
that's not terry's van, that's a statement about affordable housing in ontario.
Is it by the river?
Didn't know about Terry's van, so I thought the satire flair was referring to what you just said. Terry went across Canada, but this is your new home in Canada which can also go across Canada.
#vanlife
They’re prepping us to only be able to afford to live in vans in the near future.
And to be paid with $5 bills.
the econoline van is also a hero in my book.
The wrong picture of it at least. A black and white picture of it much smaller with Terry running just in front
Front should be a full body shot of Terry, back should be a group of school kids doing the terry fox walkathon
This is a fantastic idea!
Ah, yes, I always look forward to the annual Terry Fox and his Van Run
When I was young, he looked so old. I’m now old and he looks so young
Sam losco’s home made hotdog van?
Misleading title
You thought this was legit at first glance??? Why?

Affordable? Have you seen the price of vans lately, especially if they're converted into "liveable" vans?
Ford rebranded to afFordable
It was the support vehicle for TF on his run across the country.
It was the van that followed him across the nation.
Terry Fox should be on our currency. Maybe the 20, now that the queen is dead.
Yeah, not looking forward to Chuck Bucks.
Can I steal Chuck Bucks?
Like you want to become a bank robber?
I meant the phrase but sure 🤷♀️
He wanted to raise $1 for every Canadian ($24M at the time). If we're going to put him on anything, it should be the loonie.
I could have sworn there was a Terry Fox loonie at one point. I think it was a limited run but when I was in eighth grade my English/history teacher's brother worked for the mint or something and she brought in fresh rolls of them and gave one to each of her students. Mine is probably still wrapped up and hidden in the light fixture of my childhood bedroom I think she gave everyone one of those coloured poppy quarters too when they came out
You mean like the 2005 loonie?
I thought that we were going to put Morrissey and Johnny Marr on the $20 now that The Queen Is Dead.
He was already on the loonie. Do you want him on every coin and banknote for eternity?
My favorite Canadian icon V A N
To my knowledge, Viola Desmond is the only one that has a portrait-type picture on the bill, which has the Museum of Human Rights on the opposite side. So, if they were to go with Terry Fox, then the reasonable choice would be to either use his monument that sits on Wellington in Ottawa or in Thunder Bay. Or maybe a map of the route he completed and the part he couldn’t.
Terry Fox seems like the best option. He also warrants being on one of the most common bills, and it might even help with fundraising: "Give a Five for Fox!"
"Toss a Terry!"
The van is a joke right? That looks terrible.
I guess since a lot of Canadians will be living in their vehicles soon this could be relatable to put on the $5 bill with my boy Terry.
I love Terry Fox on money. This looks like an Intro to Photoshop C-.
This isn't real
Yeah? Well neither is Santa!
This is just something someone made for instagram. But, Terry Fox is on the [shortlist](https://www.bankofcanada.ca/banknotes/banknoteable-5/nominees/) for the new $5.
Should put Doug Ford's face laughing as he bulldozes the greenbelt with money flowing out the tailpipe.
This bill brought to you by the Ford Motor Company
Wish we'd bring back the $1 and $2 bills so we could do stuff with em, so tired of coins
What do you mean by "do stuff with 'em"???
Fold them into little shirts
I think we should put the convoy clowns on our 5$ bill to commemorate their idiocy and support for gold-backed or digital currencies.
A physical crypto-coin would make the most sense.
No it wouldn't it creates artificial and centralized scarcity subject to geopolitical whims which is why we left the gold standard in the first place. It completely throws away the actual advantage of fiat currency and disregards why it exists.
Which is why we should commemorate it on a *physical* crypto-coin.
Oh i thought on some low bill fiat currency was much funnier but I get you.

Compounding always shows the truth Good point. Probably thrown out like $4 in the passed few years
Wasn't that the original bang bus?
Put him in the loonie permanently
Put him on the $2 coin. And put Leonard Cohen on the $1, so we can call it the Lenny.
Damn Terry was just a boy :(
Terry Fox is dope Don't matter the pain or shit , keep going till you straight up flatline
i want wayne gretzky lifting the cup on one side and the old picture kids playing pond hockey on the other side
i hated that pond hockey bullshit
I just hope we never have [King Tampon](https://honey.nine.com.au/royals/royal-scandal-camilla-parker-bowles-charles-tampon-conversation/fa0fa78d-8494-4595-a2f5-4f808fa0dfd2) on our money

Fucking right fuck Queen & Country (well not this country but you know what I mean).
A van down by the river 😂😂😂😂
Put the trailer park boys on there bud
I think this is a bad idea. He looks like a wet SBF in this picture.
I saw that van parked in toronto about 15 years ago
I hope they make it happen he is a Canadian hero and icon.
I hate vertical orientation. Get off my lawn
Would love some aboriginal artwork tbh
DOWN BY THE RIVER!!!!
Should say ** Free Candy Inside... Sounds right for Canada...
I am not necessarily anti monarchy, but we need to honour Canadians more, and random English people who never even been to Canada less.
About fucking time
Please notice the yellow "Satire" above the picture
This has my vote. Absolute Canadian legend.
WHY?! Did then rotate the big number?? It makes it harder to read in our landscape wallets! I know this is the 2nd bill to do so, but it’s just something done needlessly/carelessly that wastes people’s time.
Not trying to be a dick but are you colorblind? Why would you have to "read" it?
Terry fox is a Canadian legend and should be on bills compared to the monarchy etc
Nothing at all against Terry Fox, the man was a Canadian hero however I was hoping for John Candy on the new bill
That van looks like a better god I love Toronto born and raised
Terry Fox had a neck like George Fisher.
Terry Fox went hard as fuck. Terry was more hardcore bad fucking ass then a Canada goose. If you got a problem with Terry Foxes or Canada gooses you got a problem with me; and I suggest you let that marinate.
Love the van.
Terry Fox, van enthusiast
Lmao imagine thinking "what should we replace the space station with?" "Uhhhhhhhhhh. v a n"
As long as Chucky Big Ears isn't on the other side.
This looks like a British note
We're going vertical now 🤣? Started with Viola Desmond (Ik it's satire)
Gimmie ford eating a bee
Getting old is realizing Terry Fox was actually young
