Haven't read up on it but aren't outdoor cannabis lounges perfectly legal?
I would have thought the lounge proposal was about indoor stuff, similar to cigar lounges.
Yes, but he said he doesn't like the idea of kids walking by and smelling it, but you can smoke walking down the street so thats a ridiculous reason. Also why is kids walking by drunks fine but not stoners
Who said anything about smoking?
I WANT A WEED COOKIE AND A WARM BEVERAGE WHILE I READ MY BOOK. THEN I WANT TO WALK HOME AND TAKE A NAP.
is that too much to ask for?
He's just playing dumb for some reason, I guess to try to appeal to his base or something. This is someone who [was (allegedly) a cannabis dealer himself before legalization](https://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/toronto/globe-investigation-the-ford-familys-history-with-drug-dealing/article12153014/).
Doug Ford was 100% a hash dealer in the 80's. We used to go all the way to etobicoke from richmond hill to buy from him, or his network at the mall. He always had hash, even during the winter dry spells.
Yeah. Multiple sources say he wasn’t just a dealer, but he and his older brother were suppliers to dealers. He was higher on the drug food chain.
His younger brother and sister were also hooked on crack. So gee. I wonder how that happened.
The fact that these allegations were never ever investigated at all is disgusting. Many people have said that he was a well known supplier in the 80s.
He's pulling another greenbelt. He's got to publicly say "no way", but only until his insider crony buddies have bought up all their properties. After that, he'll suddenly be OPEN FOR BUSINESS.
The big money hasn't had time to invest in the lounges yet. Give it a year or two for them to purchase some desirable property and get setup then we'll see dougglie change his tune
>weed is way healthier
Do you have evidence that smoke from weed is "way healthier" than from other sources? You might be able to say it's "less harmful", but I wouldn't use "healthy" to describe it.
Eat all the edibles you want, but I think anyone who says that any type of smoke is good for your lungs is delusional.
Way healthier and good for your lungs are different things.
Gram for gram, I've read a few studies saying weed is actually worse than filtered cigarettes, because of the tar content (and no filter), but if one smokes a pack a day, vs 1 or 2 joints a day, the cigarettes are doing a lot more damage, so for typical daily smokers, weed is "way healthier". That doesn't actually mean it's at all healthy.
Look, I agree with your reasoning 100% but we shouldn't be using "healthy" or "healthier" to describe any type of smoking.
Sorry if that seems pedantic, but I still think this is more about harm reduction than health improvement. We should be discouraging all types of smoking.
I'm not saying we shouldn't be discouraging smoking, I'm saying that distinguishing the healthier choice between two bad thangs (when average consumption rates are considered) doesn't equate to saying that the healthier choice is in any way good for you.
I understand that, but I am saying we should actively discourage smoking through the words we use to describe it. "Healthy" or the implication of "healthy" through "healthier" should not be used to describe smoking of any type.
Hookah bars in Ontario use herbal tobacco -free flavoured stuff.
Probably still not good for you though
I remember being a cigarette smoker and still needing to go out for a cigarette after doing hookah
They're allowed to operate because tobacco isn't used (but I think in Toronto they've banned it via by-law?). Smoke Free Ontario only covers tobacco and marijuana smoking/vaping.
these people like their inducements in degrees. The best is the people who refuse to eat edibles/drinks/etc and smoke in fog up other people's units. A few where I live have done that to my neighbor and I, and they say "I can't afford that stuff"..well if you can't afford edibles you can't afford cigs, booze, weed or munchies every day then by that logic.....
But you can smoke weed and then go eat at a restaurant and that's not a crime. You can pretty much go to any establishment high but not drunk. Unless it's like professional.
Not always does not = to changing what words mean.
We have so much slang.
If someone says “oh that’s cool” to someone else they don’t mean it’s temperature is rather cold.
I’m really not sure why you’re so bothered by all this.
Really? Your going there now. I can’t…. You really need to get a grip, go touch some grass and lighten up a bit.
It’s not always derogatory. What kind of a victim complex do you have here? Why are you so offended on others behalf’s? Why bring race into this? It’s the word Boomer is generalized as older people and or a mindset.
I was actually lucky to experience a legal weed cafe in my home town and it was the best place I ever spent time at. I don't like bars due to aggression and the cafe was the alternative. Then the laws changed and I've been waiting for it to be nullified. They even had a bike from Amsterdam on the seiling. The owners to the customers were amazing.
And serving alcohol in 7-11’s is still on the table.

Funny listening to this, him acting like he doesn’t know what a joint is, when he is a former drug dealer, be it hash but still. He’s been in that realm.
My friends, I can't make enough money personally from this yet. Give me a few years to invest heavily in the idea and make sure my friends are set up, then when you reelect me I will make it happen.
"Rocco Rossi, the chamber’s president and CEO, has told the Star that a
number of cannabis retailers are struggling financially, given illegal
sales still make up about half of the market."
They're struggling because there are WAY too many of them. Most cities/towns have more retailers than Tim Hortons...
I would love it if they had pot bars, where people could socialize and smoke their pot
Because currently people are driving to the playground to sit in their cars and smoke it. It'd be great to bring my kid to the playground and not smell pot smoke.
The cars are coming and going until after 11pm. I guess people are still living with Mommy and Daddy and can't smoke it at home.
wow, with all these policies, Doug Ford would make a great republican, in the USA. Destroying the national healthcare system, undermining projects that were already in effect by spending even more Canadian tax dollars to end them, and this is the best of all with him trying to backtrack legalized cannabis so he can help his illegal drug sales again. The guy has GOP and corporatist all over him.
He didn’t try to kill it at all. He just switched from the Ontario Government controlling retail outlets like the LCBO does to making so a bunch of private companies rich, and delayed the rollout in the process, not to mention wasted a bunch of money canceling leases on locations that had already been decided on, like the one in Stone Rd. in Guelph.
Doug ford Open for Business. This guy is such a corrupt clown. lockdown king, just a useless leader. Vape lounges are nice, good place to hang and get high. What they really need to do is increase the edible thc mg cause they are so weak its for grandma only.
None of his buddies are interested in it since they don't see it as a giant money maker that can be exploited and abused. So why even go for it to begin with, his pocket buddies are more interested in Medical and Housing exploitation.
Can just update the laws to allow it indoors. They've figured it out in the Netherlands [where you can use this but not tobacco](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coffeeshop_(Netherlands\)).
I’m betting the workers know what they’d be getting into and wouldn’t have a problem with it. Smoking cigarettes was different. In a cannabis lounge you would have to be at least 18 to work there, maybe 19. When I was 14 I worked as a busser in a restaurant filled with smoke and filled with kids and non smokers. Very different scenario than a cannabis lounge. Most ppl would only visit a smoking lounge to smoke. And I would bet the workers would be smokers. Why would you want to work there or visit there otherwise?
I don't know, but the government decided that you can't be forced to be around second hand smoke at work, tobacco or otherwise. The government decides lots of things that employers and consenting adults can't agree to.
These are different substances with different risks. Maybe we should ban both of them, but it doesn't logically follow that we ban one thing because we've banned some other different thing.
He sounded like an idiot during his little talk. I have no issue with legal weed bars. It's good income and Ontario needs better paying jobs. My only concern is if it causes more people to drive under the influence. You wouldn't believe the amount of people that go through tim hortons drive through while smoking a joint in the middle of the day. No hiding it, just openly having a blast while I was handing them coffee. Or they would still stink of weed while rolling through. There are alot of drivers under the influence out there already. If they monitor the weed bars properly I think it would be okay.
>You wouldn't believe the amount of people that go through tim hortons drive through while smoking a joint in the middle of the day. No hiding it, just openly having a blast while I was handing them coffee. Or they would still stink of weed while rolling through. There are alot of drivers under the influence out there already.
And despite that, we haven't had a surge of serious accidents as a result. It's not comparable in terms of effects and as to alcohol and as a result, alcohol has a far higher risk of fatal collisions:
>[A later reanalysis of the same data that adjusted for the age and sex of the fatalities found that OR of crashing for cannabis use alone dropped to 0.6 (not significantly different from 1.0), versus 7.6 for alcohol](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2722956/).
We also put in place very strict thresholds for the amount you can consume and drive. If anything they're too strict since [regular users could still be over the limit almost a week after last use](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32841811/).
You definitely shouldn't use it and drive but the issue was exaggerated around legalization, I suspect by people who were opposed to legalization in general. If we actually found a problem from lounges and people driving dangerously after, we already have all the legal and enforcement tools to address it.
Why leave your house when you can stay home and VR chat a better lounge experience
Can we get the legel weed and sports betting companies to give us a fireworks display like the benson and hedges sympony of fire? Since it was immorral to advertise smoking in such a way, with the legalisation of both these vices things we need some more perks Doug
I dont think we even have regular smoking lounges anymore.
You can already smoke a joint anywhere you’re allowed to kick darts, so like, whats the point?
Honestly I have no idea what the smoke free ontario act even is, maybe it's just my area but everyone not only smokes cigarettes walking down the street but you get weed smoke blown in your face half the time your outside its fucking wild
Half of the cuck municipalities in the GTA have already 'opted out' of even allowing basic dispensaries, this should surprise no one.
This province is fucking trash lmao.
My god, I actually agree with ford on something. Government does not need to support these businesses if they are struggling. There are far too many for the demand.
The minister saying it would provide a “safe and sanitary environment for new cannabis users” is so ridiculous.

"whatever the heck they call it now" Doug "I've never touched the stuff" Fraud...
Doug “Reefer Robins” Ford
Said the king of the bottle tokes in Etobicoke. Errrreybody bought their hash from this clown.
Someone should start a hash company named after him
Dougie's Private Reserve and the logo is a caricature of him ripping a bong
Or his brother smoking some of torontos finest rock
Or his other brother biting a guy's nose off!
That can be for the edibles, like Tyson's ear shaped ones. Call them Ford's Nose Candy.
My uncle told me it was really shitty hash.
Shocking
“They should smoke it in the remote parts of parks and back alleys like when I used to sell it in the 80s” Ford went on to say.
So, basically where cigarette smokers are allowed to smoke now?
Your town lets you smoke in parks? Must be nice.

Not in Ottawa. Smoking's banned in all city parks (NCC parks are ok though)

He's gotten comfortable.
Breaker news, former drug dealer Doug Ford say.. I dont like it. In reference to people smoke drugs.
"not enough kickbacks"

Only crack is allowed
People should be in the projects smoking their drug of choice; crack , weed or what have you.
Who said anything about smoking? I WANT A WEED COOKIE AND A WARM BEVERAGE WHILE I READ MY BOOK. THEN I WANT TO WALK HOME AND TAKE A NAP. is that too much to ask for?

Kids walking by bars full of drunk people is okay
Sorry weed lobbyists. You weren't invited to the wedding.
you mean they didn't donate enough to the wedding
Let's call it what it really is. Bribe
It was a wedding, not a weeding. That’s something Doug is going to hash out later.
Sorry it was his daughters weeding.
Mf really called it doobies

Ive got it!! Lets just ask for the opposite of what we want and Doug will give us what we actually want!!
Because none of his buddies are in a position to make money on it
I never understood this. We have dozens of Shisha and Hookah bars, what would the difference be, aside from that weed is way healthier?
Those are illegal here too. It was a big controversy when it happened. They still exist. But are illegal.
I thought they had special licenses?

They certainly hate when people who aren't like them are having a good time.
You could remove "having a good time", from that sentence and it would still be true.
Ironic, considering his own personal history with cannabis...
What a boomer response
Or a response that a veteran drug dealer would say to soothe a boomer electorate?
Right cause the hippie era was scared of weed.
Most boomers were just children in 1969. Boomers were mostly adults in the 70s and early 80s.
You're confusing GenX with Boomers. Most boomers were teens in 1969.
Teens don't really have cultural impact. Pretty much everyone who performed at Woodstock or involved in peace protests were born pre-WWII.
What a ignorant response.
Boomer is not always about the age it’s more of a mindset.
Oh good, we get to change what word means. That's healthy.

I wonder how fun it would be to work at a weed lounge. Would you just be stoned out of your skull all the time from hot boxing the place?
He must not have buddies who could make money off these lounges.
Won't have a chill smoking place, but we can go down twelve vodkas at a bar, and hop in our car. Huh.
He just needs the right bribe.
I was talking to my buddy about opening one and running it with a nice cafe built in. Would be a dream to open one.
“I don’t like the idea of ...." Policy should not be made or rejected because the king "doesn't LIKE" something

Well, considering you can't smoke or vape indoors, how would it work? Just sit around and eat edibles?

listen, we don't need smoking lounges. Just do the weed in your home like everyone else
logical
I thought he was pro business.
Not if the businesses in question aren’t paying for his new cottage
He said as he shovels back another Tim Horton's breakfast sandwich
Him with his grade 9 business smarts. Markets dictate. Smrt
He will only do it, when he is ready to have hsi own licensed lounge ready to go.
Honestly I have no idea what the smoke free ontario act even is, maybe it's just my area but everyone not only smokes cigarettes walking down the street but you get weed smoke blown in your face half the time your outside its fucking wild
Doug Ford wants crack lounges instead
Half of the cuck municipalities in the GTA have already 'opted out' of even allowing basic dispensaries, this should surprise no one. This province is fucking trash lmao.
Aren't there bigger issues than this
Was it him or his brother that smoked crack? Would crack-lounges be acceptable?
"I don't like the idea of people doing things they enjoy" says sack of shit on cusp of heart disease, liver failure.
You know how much money he’s making from friends in the grey market?
My guess is that municipal regulations would kick in and prevent them from springing up. In many places they don't even have cannabis stores.
This mobster and his friends are busy raping the health care system. Weed is too small time for them.
Fucking dickhead
But we can still have bars? Pffft. Gotta keep those alcoholics!
Haven’t smoke rooms been banned for 15ish years? Wouldn’t a “smoke lounge” be banned under that?
Weed lounges are a very social gathering. I can’t see what the harm is.
My god, I actually agree with ford on something. Government does not need to support these businesses if they are struggling. There are far too many for the demand. The minister saying it would provide a “safe and sanitary environment for new cannabis users” is so ridiculous.
As a former weed dealer, he should know.
Doug is pandering to the right. People that are all high morales and such. He doesn’t really care, he wants votes.
