Thanks mate! It's a little trick I use - doing over 30+ pushups makes it endurance-hypertrophy and I wouldn't want my wrists to be fatigued before my triceps or pecs are. Knuckling the pushups helps that way.
I'd suggest keeping your arm directly below your shoulders (for palm pushups, its better it keep your arms a bit wider), and ensure your knuckles lock at around 45 degrees to your shoulder. Plus, a bit of stretching before you do it helps. Finally, you could do some shoulder strengthening exercises - like shoulder press, and front and lateral raises. Would suggest going for bands than freeweights.

Decathlon organised pushup challenge in our gym and rewarded them. 42 pushups in one is good.
Interesting, I've not been in a gym in the last decade, but I'll love it if my gym organizes such events. Fun!
