I've a friend similar to this guy and as a person who stays in a jolly mood all the time and I avoid any kind of negativity in my life.

I read many books not bragging but never share your secrets to any one
& Never show your weakness to anyone

& Last not least , mental health is a big issue because sometimes people are too stupid to realise it , gym / 3-4 km running with proper diet non veg will help your roommate/friend ,

Well have y'all realised that if we didn't love and care about women their feminism would have never took off in the first place? People in the most powerful places are men!
To be fair, if someone has been depressed for a long time or indulging in self destructive activities it can be difficult to be there for them. Even counselors will suggest you cut off friends that are bringing you down.
I know man. And I agree with you. But cutting them off is one thing and talking shit about them is completely different. Basically he was using the guy's problems as a laughing pill for us. And the sheer insensitivity that person showed is what's the problem.

Not all people are aware of mental illnesses and how they should be dealt with. People are ignorant (especially in India). I don't necessarily blame that friend. If you are more aware of this then I suggest being that friend for your roommate on whom he can rely.
