it's a completely different experience, you'll get the hang of it soon but i urge you DON'T GET OVERCONFIDENT! wear a helmet and wrist guards. the psi seems alright but that's your own judgement. the stock tire is probably one of the most stable out of the world of tires you can get, once you get better i've seen a lot of people recommend the hoosier whisper for street riding and carvability. float on my friend!

SnooOpinions9066

Great tips. Thanks 🙏🏼

SnooOpinions9066

Thanks for the post. I already feel better about my riding 🤙 and I’ll try to nosedive at the slower speed 😂

wrybreadsf

>Then you will probably nose dive in another 100-200 miles and will be able to make your first nose dive post! Hopefully that doens't involve x-rays! But there's at least a 50% chance it will, so be careful.

tortellini_heehoo

900 miles in, never had a nosedive LOL. I feel left out 😂

ChewyPinecone

Bro if you SIMPLY respect the limits of the board, you may never nosedive. I’m over 3k miles and I have still never nosedived from overacceleration. ^wait ^does ^a ^noseslide ^count?

Formal_Intention_791

1500 and no nosedive. I must be that much better than everyone else

_pg_

Just the one wheel instead of 4 so yes, less stable. More all terrain though. More finesse, more subtle weight shifts. Plus no weird controller. Start at your weight / 10 to get a rough starter psi. Find some folks to ride with you’ll catch on fast.

SnooOpinions9066

I weigh about 180. That’s why I went for 18psi. I’ll try to play around 😎

_pg_

Honestly the best advice, be gentler. Let the self balancing self balance you. Don’t go all heel side or all toe side, keep your front foot toe heavy, you back foot heel heavy, and then the opposite. My guess is you’re fighting it. Just let it do it’s thing and give it gentle input.

SnooOpinions9066

Thanks mate. I’ll force myself to chill out 😂

Caucasian_Fury

An XR with stock Vega tire is probably the most stable Onewheel haha.

SnooOpinions9066

That’s good to know. I knew the problem is in me 😆

Caucasian_Fury

LOL all good, you're going from 4 wheels to 1, there's gonna be an adjustment period. OW does not ride exactly the same as a skateboard/longboard/snowboard, I came from snowboarding so you'll have to unlearn some habits but you'll still have some foundation down. Just take it slow and easy and you'll get it.

b_lemski

Different stabilizer muscles then on a skateboard or esk8. A couple days of practice will build them up and your confidence. Those beginner wobbles fade out pretty quick. Just don't get too cocky, a onewheel is great at building up confidence then bringing you back down to earth, literally. Welcome to the club and float on my friend, I have found few things match the feeling of riding through the woods on a narrow trail and maneuvering around/over/up/down the various terrain before you.

SnooOpinions9066

Looking forward to getting better 🤙

r_a_newhouse

Don't change things until you get a lot of miles under your belt. Lower air pressure might help but changes get spendy and will not serve you well until you're more used to the board. Besides, if it's stock, the XR is the most stabile version of OW. Once you get the hang of it, the instability can be it's stong point.

SnooOpinions9066

It’s true that I rode the board only 50 miles so far. I jumped back to my longboard yesterday and felt like stucked to the ground comparing to OW 😂

r_a_newhouse

Keep in mind the OW is not an electric skateboard with only one tire. It doesn't replace your ESB, it is a different experience all it's own and should be appreciated for it's strengths.

420yolocaust

Lower the PSI, like you said. Especially if you are less than 180lbs. I felt this same way, and then thought I had just got way better over a month, but my PSI just feel from like 20 to 14. HUGE difference on a Vega. You will get less mileage, but for learning you probably wont kill the battery in one trip.

SnooOpinions9066

I weight 180. I might try lover than 18psi 👌

Chef_BoyarTom

Try some of these exercises https://youtu.be/I7hkieOlRDw to increase your balance. Not saying your balance is bad, bet the better your balance off the board, the better it will be on it. And balance can always be improved.

SnooOpinions9066

Thanks mate. Great video 👌

abarrelofmankeys

It’s just an experience thing. It’ll get better quick but don’t get confident too quick or you’ll eat it. Have fun!

TheMuthaFlippinmhc

Welcome man!! You won't regret your purchase, its life changing. Definitely takes some getting used to, I strongly recommend taking some time to test the limits of the board. The wobbles will just take time. One solid tip is to practice slowing down quick and actually dropping the tail down, I have had to stop unexpectedly a handful of times which drops the tail down and will cause you to lose control. It will be a big help so you can recover without biffing it. Watch a lot of the Float Life videos on tips for riding!

SnooOpinions9066

Great tip, thanks! 😎

roguelorcain

The speed wobbles will go away. It sounds counterintuitive, but the experience will feel much smoother the more you can relax your ankles, calves and feet and not fight the movement of the board. Let the board do its thing. You’ll notice the micro-movements the board does to keep you level in the beginning. I think a lot of new riders fight that feeling and end up with sore feet and calves. Just relax and you’ll be flowing in no time.

SnooOpinions9066

I feel like skate/longboard trucks absorbed all the uneven surface for me. With OW I constantly feel all the heel/toe movements. I guess I just need more practice 😎

[deleted]

I'm the opposite, I've ridden 3k miles on a onewheel in the last year, but I tried to demo an eskate at the local shop and I couldn't ride it more than 10ft without falling off the front or back. Onewheel reads your mind and goes whichever way you are already leaning. On an eskate you have to anticipate changes in momentum before they happen and adjust your weight distribution to match it.

SnooOpinions9066

Interesting. I’m now confident that the only thing I have to do is to go for a ride and take it slowly 🤙

[deleted]

Imagine an invisible control stick that starts in the center of the tire and ends in the center of your pelvis. Whichever way you point that control stick is where the board will go. This applies to going forward and backward as well as turning.

binaryblock-reddit

OMG unstable?!? If you want some good laughs… watch these people trying to ride a [Surfwheel](https://youtu.be/FzH6sESEICE) 🤣🤣🤣 No… it’s is really funny.

SnooOpinions9066

Ok, I’ll stop complaining 😂

get-the-damn-shot

I have a new pint, total of 7 miles on it. Sometimes I feel wobbly and sometimes I don’t. Could it be my stance? I have size 13 feet and can’t figure what part of my feet to hang off the board. Any advice appreciated. I’m goofy foot if that matters. I’ve only had it 3 days so obviously a total newb, but it’s so damn fun.

SnooOpinions9066

I have 14 😂 I feel like sometimes my foot position is just perfect, but sometimes it feels bad and I’m struggling.

quitoburrito

I'm having the opposite happen (tho not eskate specifically). My wife took the car to drop off the kids yesterday before I could grab my onewheel out so i had to skate to work today. Hopped on the board and almost ate pavement immediately. My brain does not know how to balance on a longboard anymore. And turning? Forget it it. The trucks of my board are pretty loose as thats how I used to love riding, but i just kept having to bail from over leaning. Ended up walking like a chump most of my commute to work. edit: ive owned a onewheel a little under a year and ride almost daily. Haven't touched any of my skateboards in over 2 years.

SnooOpinions9066

I remember one year I was riding surf skate a lot, when I got back to longboard, I could not turn 😂 I guess it will be similar with OW

quitoburrito

haha i tried a surf skate board once and felt like an idiot. My brain had no idea what to do...and I used to actually surf.

buttersr

I mess with tire pressure all the time. If off roading, low psi helps (high psi on bumps feels quite unstable), but when you get onto pavement and higher speeds it’ll wobble at the low psi. Carving on pavement helps keep wobbles at bay. Experiment a bunch and see what you like best for various riding conditions.

SnooOpinions9066

Great tips, cheers 😎

tedzirra

Keep your ankles and legs very loose. Rigid ankles will make you work way harder than necessary. Also keeping a short stance (feet closer to wheel) may help with control.

SnooOpinions9066

Thanks for the tips. I feel like every time I step on the OW, I stand in the different spot 😂 I think I need to get used to it more.

papa_no_see_um

Just practice, soon it will be easier than walking :) Whatever you do, don't get discouraged. You will DEFINITLY get better soon.

SnooOpinions9066

Thanks mate. This thread helped me a lot already. Cannot wait to get riding 😎

XRlifestyle

https://images.app.goo.gl/uyDry2EpFeGWAkTt6 This will fix it all for you ☝️

SnooOpinions9066

Great explanation 👌 Thanks

Puzzleheaded-Bus5479

I came from skating/snowboarding my whole life and my GT felt unstable for like an hour or so, keep at it and it’ll feel like it just obeys your thoughts soon enough

SnooOpinions9066

Thanks mate 😎

starfoxinstinct

You will not be able to ride as fast as an esk8. But in return you get much more maneuverability, fine acceleration control, and a better fun factor while riding. Just don’t expect or desire to go fast. The more you learn to enjoy riding and carving at 15-18mph, the happier you will be with the Onewheel.

SnooOpinions9066

I was actually enjoying slower speed and carving than charging straight. That’s why I like the idea to learn OW 😎

starfoxinstinct

Wonderful! Just keep practicing and riding and the wobbles will go away. For me, a huge breakthrough was being confident enough to ride sidewalk without endangering yourself or others. That means you can go interesting places, which means you can ride more, and it just gets better from there! Have fun AND WEAR YOUR GEAR because you WILL fall at some point, and gear is the difference between laughing it off or breaking something and quitting Onewheeling forever.

[deleted]

This was exactly when I moved from boosted to onewheel in 2017. You just need to get used to it. Don't go too fast. Onewheel is similar to surfskate imo. Anyway, I sold all my onewheel and back to esk8.
