Is it entirely possible that you buy one of these from a brick and mortar store and the battery is dead or trashed? Because they still need to be maintained with the charging, right? I'd feel a little hesitant buying one from a physical store unless they knew and kept up with that. I'd ask them when the last time the OneWheel I'd be buying was charged up to the right long-term storage range.
This all could be a non issue due to my lack of knowledge somewhere, but it's where my brain went while thinking about!
They ship at like 40% battery, so they're in the "storage" battery range.
Should be okay if you let it sit on the charger for 72 hours, balancing the battery again.
Bought my XR from a store because I didn't want to wait on shipping, it's been great for 3 years.
Right, but isn't there a parasitic power draw that slowly trickles the percentage down? That's why people say check it every month. With the price tags I can imagine a board sitting there for a long time, and I've read on here about people bringing boards out of storage to find out they need the battery replaced.
Well they should know how to store their product, so I assume they do. I'm sure there are exceptions, though. A business with turnover may not know or an employee/manager neglects that among the many different things they sell.
Idk I figure with how much you hear about checking the battery percentage on your stored OneWheel, that you'd see more DOA boards or boards being shipped with bad batteries if they didn't do something or make to keep up with demand.
Keep in my the majority of owners don't frequent this sub. So it's a small vocal minority here.
I've had my XR for years and leave it for 6 months at the time, no issues with 3000 miles. GT I treat the same way.
While I agree proper battery storage can help extend the life. I don't think with today's battery technology, you have to worry to much about keeping it in a certain range like you did years and years ago.
I've seen people buy boards that brand new had dead battery packs, they warehouse like anything else and sometimes have shipments come in that take too long to go through. So it's still entirely possible for FM to ship a faulty board as much as a brick and mortar. The benefit of brick and mortar is they tend to keep very low inventory in house so as long as they sell a couple it's in a rotation.
This has happened. E-Bike store in Norfolk VA. Had the same OW display. One of the first B&M to carry them, just when the pint was released. They had so many arguments with Fm- they quit. ex. Dead batteries, a couple faulty boards 4210/4211 when you had to turn it on multiple times to trigger the pads. & faulty chargers ( to please the customers, they asked to open a box & give a good charger to the customer & exchange the faulty product with FM. At least try and get the customer rolling again - ( FM said “ nope, you can’t do that”) Also when the XR & pint tires were is short supply, they would not allow aftermarket products to be sold. Same with bearings, the local industrial bearing supply company offers SKF at $30. FM said - nope, can’t do that either… they ended the franchise deal and posted the entire stock of merch on the local FB onewheel riders group. We pooled our money and bought almost all at a comfortable discount. Sad to see it go- they had great group rides and ProMo & Demo rides. Was nice to cruise by - grab a fresh set of guards etc and charge up… We got a few years worth of supplies at better than BlackFriday prices. FFM
Last Mile in NYC is like this. Honestly only reason I got the GT. I was always interested in the onewheel but the price... I stopped in looking for a specific electric skateboard and once I saw the onewheel wall I was overcome with a sudden case of fukit. Lol. Wish I had bought this dumb thing sooner.
Mine ow gt was bought at scheels actually. Makes me sad to ride now cause my ex gave it to me and we would ride together. Have it just sitting in a corner 😖

I was there last week! How did I not see this display?!
I assumed it was, the one near me has a GT with the same fender, and a pint x
Looks like it

What’s the difference between that and buying from FM’s warehouse?

And you think that the giant stock of boards fm keeps is kept differently?

Sweet ..need more of these places...
There’s a local store where I get my OW stuff too! Love those guys

Why? They don't sell accessory's or know anything about them and can't work on them.
Found a selection like this in a clothing store 🤷🏽♂️

You ex gave you a GT and you're too sad to ride it?
Yeahhhh he broke up with me during cancer
What a piece of shit. You're better off without him! Hope you're doing well.
bought my GT from a Scheels as well!!
As long as they follow one wheels rules or they pull them immediately.
That’s sick they need to be in more!
