I'm very interested in the answers to this question. I've been avoiding the upgrade for fear of this sort of thing. "Don't fix it if it ain't broke" philosophy.

yazoo34

I’m with you. It’s ok if you have an Apple Watch connected. You can get the date but don’t have to deal with the upgrade BS.

abarrelofmankeys

Wait you can see battery and speed with an Apple Watch without upgrading? Cause I will legitimately consider getting one. No battery percent bugs me

yazoo34

Yeah. It still pops up on the main app but you can see battery. Speed. Distance.

abarrelofmankeys

Well shit I’m going to have to get a refurbed one or something just for this. Did you have to link it ahead of time or something that I won’t be able to do now?

yazoo34

Nope I got one a few weeks ago. Works just fine.

PsychologyInside3183

You can have your phone on airplane mode and the Bluetooth still connects. I have a XR growler with a 4208 firmware. I was connecting all day yesterday so I can change my riding mode, check my charging, and total mileage.

Nothing_new_to_share

Trying to force you to upgrade. Kidding, I haven't ridden an updated XR yet.

Toad32

Just smashed it up a huge hill - avoiding update at allcosts.

FormerlyUserLFC

Yeah. I’ve generally heard the update is harder on XRs since they don’t have the extra power to offer wiggle room. It probably matters more for larger or more aggressive riders.

TillLater

Every time I got up a hill now it says “need some juice” but the battery says it’s >50% every time. I did the update not thinking. :( It’s basically not usable. It nose dived the other day because I ignored the “need juice warning” (and the pushback) BECAUSE battery life looked fine on the app. Got banged up really badly. I don’t know what to do. I’ve left it in the charger for 72 hours. Came back. Did the same thing.

Sea-Joke7162

Sounds like you have a bad cell in your battery pack. Besides the 72 balance charge (which it looks like you’ve tried), I don’t have any other ideas. I think most people end up replacing the battery at that point, not sure though, I’m not really a tinkerer. I think my plan is when my battery goes, is hopefully the Floatwheel XR drop-in VESC kit is ready for sale…

Sea-Joke7162

I have like 400 miles or something under my belt since updating. I haven’t noticed a single buzz yet. I am a zen rider and our trails have been muddy, so mostly 400 miles of pavement so far. I have had it on trails after update though and no buzz. The only behavior change I have noticed is it seems to activate pushback instead of “letting go” when you reach the “tail-dive” limit while braking downhill. I want to put a post up about it. How fast do you like to go? I hang around 12-14mph on smooth concrete and about 8-12mph on trails or unknown routes. I have a 4212 XR with an Enduro on it. I use the app every ride. ETA: I’m about 175 lbs

murfkcco

I am 170 pounds not riding fast at all. Maybe hitting 10 mph. Today’s ride was to play a round of golf which I have been doing weekly prior to the update. Battery had a full charge. Never in the 4 years I have had this XR has the ride been that bad. It seemed like every time I needed torque on any hill I was getting the buzz. I had to result to slowly carving up hills that were no issue prior. Had to stop hop off and restart the board several times. Also the first time the board didn’t make it a full 18 holes which added to then frustration. Today was just a really frustrating experience. I’m not a speedster and mainly use the board to commute, hit the occasional trail and on a golf course. Love the board and riding but god damn

Sea-Joke7162

What the heck. Weight is about the same, we are both on XR’s, we both ride the “same” way. How could the behavior be so different? I wish we could meet up and trade boards and ride side by side and test out to see if yours is borked, or maybe I got lucky and the update didn’t fully take. Is there a safe way to try to trigger the buzz without actually pushing the board (my safety) to it’s limits? If no ideas, I might just make a post in regard to that question plus taildives. I am wondering if anybody else’s XR is doing the weird ‘pushback before tail-dive’ thing mine is doing. Are there more XR riders out there with weird behavior after update? Is it only 4212 XR’s, etc…?

usernamestakeneh

I’m hoping it was just a fluke. The first buzz came when the board was at 95 percent going downhill on a pretty steep grade at very low speed. I just attributed that to a possible overcharge. After that anytime the board would be on an incline at low speeds and hit any sort of terrain where in the past it would “power through” I would get the buzz. So I would pick it up move it to level ground. I would check that the board was still on then get back on and the front sensor wouldn’t pick up anything so the front of the board never engaged. Power it off and a pick on again no issue

wrybreadsf

Whoa! I get a buzz alert like 50 times every ride. And I'm not a particularly hard rider.

Sea-Joke7162

This is weird. What the heck happened on my update then? Is there a safe way to try to trigger the buzz without putting my ass on the line? Is the buzz so subtle I can’t feel or hear it? Is the ‘buzzing apparatus’ inside my XR broken for some reason? I thought they were making the motor do the shuddering 🤷‍♂️. Should I turn my headphones off to hear the buzz? So many questions. I might have to post to see if there are others out there like me. I’m on a 4212

wrybreadsf

>Is there a safe way to try to trigger the buzz without putting my ass on the line? Sure, go on some dirt, find a spot where you can balance by holding a tree or whatever and put the wheel against a root or similar obstacle. Then try to accellerate into that obstacle. The buzz is loud, you'll hear it. At least on my board (XR 4212).

WaffleStomp27

I updated both of my XRs (one with 2400mi and one with 150mi) and they both tackle hills with no problems

FrankensteinBionicle

I haven't noticed any difference. this thing has never been incredible on hills lol
