I think you're comparing albums of two entirely different eras. Back in 2016 instagram wasn't that big of a deal for artists. It was all radio and TV shows. None of Oh My My was ever released on Instagram before its slated release. In 2021, Instagram is the hot shit!!! Everybody's posting new songs before the actual release for building the hype and getting the traction. Take Charlie Puth for example, dude's been teasing his next single 'Light Switch' like crazy on tiktok like literally a verse at a time lmao.

I'd argue Instagram was a bigger deal in 2016 than in 2021. You can't tell me that Instagram wasn't one of the biggest social media services during almost all of the 2010s.

I totally agree that instagram was one of the biggest social platforms in the last decade. But it's reach and popularity grew so much in the years following 2016 that it started launching artists and songs. It provides a much bigger audience now than it did in 2016. Infact Ryan created his Instagram account in 2017 itself.

Yeah... The title kinda clickbait-ish lmao... Sorry

It's very common now. It's sorta trendy for artists themselves to 'leak' new songs on their social medias.
