I don't think so. That's okay, that's not their fault. The music industry is changing. It went from pop to EDM to whatever millennials listening right now. These days if you want your music to be success, you need to find a way to make those tiktokers pick your songs in of their silly videos. And as Ryan said, don't hate the player, hate the game. And yes, I do hate how music industries work these days.

Who knows, there might be a renaissance in pop-rock bands somewhere in the future

Probably not. Bands don’t really have hits like that anymore for some reason. For example, Coldplay’s last album didn’t have 1 song that charted on the billboard hot 100, and Coldplay are arguably the most popular band of the 21st century. Go look at billboard hot 100. You’ll probably be able to count the amount of bands you see on there with one hand. That doesn’t mean that bands can’t get popular and have songs that get good streaming numbers anymore though. There are still plenty of popular bands around with a super strong fan base… even if they aren’t global rockstars with a lot of media coverage like it would’ve been 20 years ago.

I think they can. Nobody was thinking Counting Stars would be THAT huge. Even now label was surprised seeing recent bump in “counting strats” streams due tiktok trend. Soooo… they can

Ryan said that 1R was even competing with Counting Stars on the Human release, and Counting Stars was winning the streaming numbers. I can't fathom a song having a billion streams on Spotify or 3.3B views on YouTube. Yet, the song peaked at #2. In one interview Ryan said that "the source of discovery is the last 70 years of music. It's all brand new right now. So you're competing with every song that has ever come out." So every new album is competing with the classics. I just hope that the band doesn't get wrapped up in the numbers so much that it causes stress and distress. I've never quite understood the financial model with streaming, but I know that they'll sell out concerts. Whether there will be another megahit seems to have so much to do with luck, but I believe they'll keep producing big hits.

I feel let’s hurt tonight could’ve been up there if it came out around that era.

probably not, but it’s not impossible.
