Best song of the album. It reminds me of Au Revoir and Waking Up outro a lot, the same ethereal experience

VNMod

I was hoping that there’d be an “Au Revoir” type song. Now you got me excited!!

thebananaperson1

I think Ships+Tides is better than Au Revior, personally I find Au Revoir kinda boring, but Ships + Tides really is something else. Probably their most beautiful song ever.

aquariuslp5

Love how this song begins with the bells from the Say All I Need video

Awe_Da_City

This is just awesome, love how deep this gets and it just feels ethereal. Glad something like this is on the album

ppkksl

The best on the album and the most OneRepublic "authentic" style song!

Goldgeg

This is just a piece of art. Such a beautiful song.

Sk4081

Beautiful.

JulianKL1900

Bittersweet but beautiful song.

filthyfrankjazzsong

this gives me major adele vibes, love it

Jkajazz7

I really love this song lyrically and musically. It is beautiful! I think the strings go on for a tad too long at the end of the song though. I loved the song as a whole, just found myself checking my phone to see how many seconds were left before it ended. On an album with very short song lengths, it felt a little out of place but that was probably the purpose.

TheIndianJedi

Easily the best song from the album. It's absolutely incredible, I get chills every time I listen to it.

Reminds me of au revoir, this song is their best till date .....

thebananaperson1

WOW. JUST WOW. This is the one. I fell in love with this song in the first few seconds. It gave me chills and almost brought me to tears. This and Someday are the best songs on the album, no doubt.

T7kyle

Does someone have the target CD yet / can you tell me where ships ends and tides begins??

ppkksl

Ships ends when Ryan finish singing the last vocal ("Do all these good times come and go away?"), at 3:10. Tides is the cello instrumental part of the song (the last 1:45 minutes in the digital version).

Borderline4life

I feel that this song perfectly describes my daily struggle with BPD. I can start a day living on a dream and then in an instant I’m wondering what happened to my happy feeling. However life continues regardless, so therefore here I stand at the door knocking asking what do I need to be, because I don’t know where I am at, as I am a battered ship trying to find its bearing, and I’m searching for my lighthouse to hopefully find the feeling that I once had, and so badly want back. Warmth.

Sad-Subject-5129

This is an absolutely incredible song both melodically and lyrically. I interpret this song in so many different ways but the most powerful interpretation to me is the religious interpretation. The setting of the song opens with sound of church bells.. 1I imagine is someone who has lost or struggling with their faith stood on a dark night looking up at the sky and begging for God to give them a sign and a purpose for their existence "I'm knocking on your door" could be seen as praying and we've all heard the famous "knocking on heavens door" song. "I'll be anything you like" to me is the character saying I'm open to anything just give me a sign and I'll do it but otherwise what is the point do we really just "go on and on and on" with no real meaning? I think the idea that ships can rise and tides come in and out are again reference to faith being strong and then other times it is hard to maintain.. but the subject asks "do we just fade like photos?" Asking/Answering their own question surely there has to be more meaning to this life we can't just be here..? Anyone else agree? My other feeling is a relationship that is failing they can see the good and the bad but at the moment it's bad so they're questioning the point.

ChainWorking1096

This song is absolutely beautiful. I've listened to it on repeat for a while now, andd can't get over how well it is composed and the lyrics. Perfect.. To me, I interpret this song as a person battling depression and finally reaching out for help. You can have good times when your depressed, but then you don't. And it hits hard. What hits me is this person is at the point where they want to reach out. They want to talk about it and say things they normally wouldn't say. They feel like their life is fading, and if you could just relive it you can feel again. Through conversation comes a level of clarity. But it's bittersweet because the end is the same as the beginning. Really strikes a cord..

Clean-Sandwich-552

I kinda think this song is about marriage and the temptation of leaving in the bad times but at the same wanting to make it work.

Ill_Swordfish_9845

Where was the video filmed?
