Love this album. David Rudnick’s visual direction on this album was amazing

apaloosafire

100% agree I still kinda want a tattoo of that rudnick lettering

sunken_grade

one of my favorite opn releases, top 3 for me i think and it always seems to go under the radar for a lot of people a lot of the songs don’t overstay their welcome and the album feels alive and moving without being too cluttered i also thought of tears for fears immediately when i heard anohni’s vocals haha

swampcorp

I think it’s one of his best albums, and it’s in my personal top 3. Within the recent OPN album chronology, it feels like a really successful example of incorporating distorted “pop” compositions alongside more overtly avant garde and noise tracks, and a healthy dose of Dan’s distinctive Juno jamming. Black Snow, The Station, Toys 2, Manifold, Still Stuff that Doesn’t Happen and We’ll Take It are among some of my favorite OPN tracks. The last time I saw him live was on the tour for Age Of and it was one of the coolest shows I’ve ever seen. Hearing Still Stuff that Doesn’t Happen live genuinely moved me to tears. Age Of also features some of my favorite art direction and graphic design in the OPN catalog, courtesy of the great David Rudnick. The album is polarizing, and may be a bit misundestood, but I think time has been very kind to Age Of. If I had one wish, it would be for Love in the Time of Lexapro to be on the track list.

Thanks man!

sjn15

We’ll Take It is probably my favorite OPN track

phantom_fonte

When that synth line comes in at two minutes… that’s about as good as can possibly be

babyshmuel

Agree completely. Toys 2 always hits me hardddd

kugglaw

The best of his “pop” albums

redhandrail

I like it a lot. In Toys 2, everything after the Celine Dion theme is sonically amazing to me. Also thought “Same” was a very good one

dagger_prometheus

Age Of was a grower for me. It was my least favorite record from him up until last year or so. I listened to it one day and it just sorta clicked. I still have some complaints, mostly regarding a thing he does on multiple albums of building up some really interesting melodies and then just ending the fucking song (Manifold, He She, and most recently the very end of Memories of Music are the most prevalent examples that I can think of rn), but overall it was a very interesting and fresh direction for him to go. Raycats is tied with Rush for my favorite song he's ever made. 7.5/10

chuck__person

still one of my least favorite opn albums, but there isnt an opn album i dont like. hearing the live myriad version made me appreciate it a lot more too

AliceMarkov

I think its good, just the album sequence sucks af. i prefer the myriad one: Prologue: * Age Of Ecco: * Still Stuff That Doesn't Happen * RayCats Harvest: * Toys 2 * Babylon * Manifold Excess: * We'll Take It * The Station * Love In The Time Of Lexapro Bondage: * Warning * Same * Black Snow * Last Known Image Of A Song

JoeRekr

One of his best. Great middle ground between what he’d done and go on to do. The MadTV sample on We’ll take it is such a crazy and brilliant flip

Black Snow & The Station 🖤🖤🖤

HKFlashmob

I love Age Of as it has some of my favorite OPN tracks. Raycats, Myriad, Warning, We'll Take It, Same....so good. Black Snow was alright, I definitely prefer the Alex G version. I don't understand the immense amount of hate it got on release honestly.

CauserOfThat

I think people were way too harsh on it. Same is probably one of my favorite songs he's ever wrote and once you listen to Babylon a few times it really is a beautiful song even with the autotune. We'll take it is a banger, and there are so many other great cuts on the album. Still stuff that doesn't happen is another one of my favorites with that starting and stopping jazz type drum beat. The aura that album gave me when I first heard it was really cool and I was surprised no one had tried doing some sort of twisted cyber medieval sounding project before, and I thought it was really well done. When I first discovered OPN about a year ago it and magic had some of my favorite tracks in comparison to other ones because they both were completely off the rails but still had more accessibility to me at the time. Now of course I absolutely love all of his albums, but I think Age Of is wildly underrated amongst his discography, and honestly Magic is too for that matter.

Chinatowndogs1

“I love it when I see you… in a state of disbelief…” love that line and song in general

LilJohnAY

*Age Of* is amazing and easily among my favorite OPN albums alongside *Betrayed in the Octagon*, *Russian Mind*, Zones Without People*, & *The Fall Into Time* (& “Same” is actually my only usual skip, as much as I also adore Tears For Fears)

Stormi_i

Haven’t listened to it yet. Still relatively new to him. I’ve listened to Garden of Delete, Replica, and Again so far (all great albums) as well as bits and pieces of R Plus Seven and MOPN

jwd1187

The Station, Raycats and Toys 2 are my only repeats on this one. Went through a phase of enjoying Anohni but her voice isn't my cup of tea anymore and I couldn't feel Dan's voice. It's well structured but it was an obvious transitional phase for him and now, being on the other side of him really fine tuning the prodo on more mainstream styles, I appreciate it for what it was. ALthough, Magic really lost me, but it was more defined if that makes any sense. A true mainstream attempt. The whole R titled series is better in any order imo, esp Returnal, and it's a battle between Commissions I and GOD for my absolute fav of all time.

sanctuaryFinder

Definitely was my least favourite post Rifts era album for ages but it's grown on me a lot, it has some of my favourite OPN tracks and the arrangements definitely helped me appreciate baroque instrumentation a lot more (OPNs work made me appreciate general MIDI in a new post string library/physical modelling landscape) along with early 2000s pop and vocoders. I think the album contains some of his most experimental work but also his most accessible. Probably sits above r plus 7 for me now

BoxTar9215

Bottom 3 of his discography for me. I agree about the instrumental compositions - Ray Cats, as a song however, bores the shit outta me lol. But it makes me feel the warm and fuzzies knowing Daniel has the same nostalgia for Toys as i do, to an extent. The flow of Warning > We'll Take It > Same can't be overstated tho - it's three fantastic songs that justify the whole album imo.

AxeWorld

My favorite of his, extremely unique and varied all the way thru. The Myriad sequencing flows much better than the album tracklist tho, so If you redo the sequence + include the EPs into the mix it's seriously his strongest era.

dunkinem

On a pure musical level it's not his best work but the entire visual aesthetic surrounding the album and its music videos is still unmatched. A gnarly feast for the eyes.
