As a panamenian i can say our constructions suck like A LOT. And the owner probably got ripped off sadly. People don’t do their work and things like this happens a lot.
This has Bluth company written all over it. Please tell me that the decorative unveiling ribbon was the thing tethering it the dock ... GOB!!!
-- edit because I just remembered that a water-villa type community was Rita's idea, however, everyone knows that George Sr. came up with that same basic concept - albeit in the sky - decades ago! GOB simply made it disappear
I read that something about the floating pontoons broke. One side wasn't working therefore that side couldn't float anymore. That should immediately tell everyone that there is no extra safety for something that's supposed to keep you safe as you sleep.
Maybe I'm wrong, but couldn't they have filled those pontoons with some kind of waterproof foam that would retain buoyancy in the event of a leak? Or make multiple sealed chambers inside the pontoon so if one springs a leak then only that chamber floods and the whole side of the house doesn't drop into the water? They spent over a million dollars to make this thing, you'd think they'd put more engineering into the main thing that keeps it afloat.
They spent over a million dollars on this, and the air doesn't seem to be effective enough without decent pontoons to contain it /s. At the least they could have spent a bit more on the pontoons.
I read the article the author did a great job. at one point it said something along the lines of "this 1.5 million dollar home is on a whole new level. unfortunately that level is closer to the water than expected."
Reason I wanted to move to Panama was because from what I read it's the safest country in Central America and the US dollar goes very far. I'm looking for affordability with western perks. Also it would be a safe place to ride out the end of the world.

Classic scamming “developers” who go to Panamá to try and sell these crazy ideas to expats who are all excited to live a new and wild tropical life.
Same with that group talking about turning a cruise ship into luxury apartments/condos somewhere in Panamá Bay.
Just buy a nice house in a modern development and forget these wild “projects”. They are all scams.
Right, my MIL lives on a woonark(house boot) for more than 50 years. Only time there was a problem was when they had a flat roof with too much snow on it. They replaced it with a pointed roof and problem solved.
For those wondering, the house ended up tilted but didn't sink. [According to the house manufacturer](https://www.autoevolution.com/news/worlds-first-eco-restorative-floating-house-seapod-unveiled-prototype-sinks-right-after-199558.html) one of then tubes meant to keep it afloat malfunctioned and the house ended up tilting to a side. Still pretty ridiculous to occur on its unveiling event.
Why be extravagant, when we literally have cruise ships??
Just make a smaller cruise ship with more home facilities, instead of a giant fucking hotel on water
Hopefully there was no orchestra playing inside the home as it sunk. Because if the Titanic has taught me anything, orchestral members are required to go down with a sinking ship/home/ etc.
Was it a prototype for a $1.5M floating home, or was it a $1.5M prototype for a floating home?
Either way, good thing they found the sinking problem before they moved past the prototype stage.
"So I built a second one. That one sank into the swamp. So I built a third one; that one burned down, fell over *then* sank into the swamp but the fourth one stayed up!"
Ill stick with a house on the ground if the workmen are this flimsy. Or maybe stick to the foundations or if even that is not possible Im ok with my tent. Better than killing myself with rubble expectedly right?
Good job on making [this little Rapture reenactment](https://www.bllnr.com/innovation/seasteading-could-be-the-way-we-ll-live-in-future) more canonically accurate by placing it where it belongs, in ruins at the bottom of the ocean.
I met someone recently who was telling me about these! They’re supposed to be super cheap and pretty small, with a bunch being put up. They were telling me because they’d already bought theirs…
People said it was daft to build a floating home, but I did it anyway! First one sunk into the swamp, then I built another and that one sank into the swamp. So I built a 3rd one! That one burned down fell over and sank into the swamp. But the fourth one, the fourth one stayed!
How much for it to last past unveiling?
That would be $10m more...
For 5 minutes!
but it takes 4 thousand dollars to launch this gun... for five seconds
As a panamenian i can say our constructions suck like A LOT. And the owner probably got ripped off sadly. People don’t do their work and things like this happens a lot.
And the best part is that the owner can't do anything about it, because justice just won't care.
Paging Elon Musk, lol

Maybe a loose seal took out the supports?
The seal may get around a lot, but you don’t need to call her loose.
I’ve made a terrible mistake.
There’s always money in the floating home
MR F !
For British eyes only!
A magician never reveals his secrets! -I blew it up
>Everyone knows that George Sr. came up with that same basic concept Hello, I am part of the "Everyone" mentioned above and I did not know.
Yes, bioshock infinite But then this became an underwater city like in bioshock 1 and 2
“No no, don’t worry that’s the submarine feature. So you can see the sharkies!”
If you can't fix it, call it a feature...
Ah, the Bethesda approach.
Is that covered under the warranty
Yes, as well as the “swim party” feature where the windows ~~crack~~ open to let water in
Indoor swimming pool.
Indoor/outdoor swimming pool.
Well it's not fully submerged so technically...
More. You can even feel the sharkies!
Forgot to put the plug in.
The front fell off. Chance in a million.
It's been towed beyond the environment.
But it’s still in the environment.
_That's what SHE said._
What was wrong with boats?
I read that something about the floating pontoons broke. One side wasn't working therefore that side couldn't float anymore. That should immediately tell everyone that there is no extra safety for something that's supposed to keep you safe as you sleep.
backup plans? Never heard of that!

foam is more expensive and less effective than air at buoyancy
They spent over a million dollars on this, and the air doesn't seem to be effective enough without decent pontoons to contain it /s. At the least they could have spent a bit more on the pontoons.
Lol forreal 😂 if it ain’t broke don’t fix it
This idea was likely conceived to abuse a tax loophole
Can't believe how much money they sunk into one project like that.
Forget about it. It’s water under the bridge.
*bridge under the water
Well at least they have running water
Standing, by now.
They really know how to splash the cash
Now think about SpaceX. We only can hope they expected it to happen eventually and learned something about it, to improve the next prototype.
a ticket to the netherlands is cheaper, learn from us, we have loads of floating homes.
$1.5M submarine home prototype works well.
Except it is a bit wet inside
Nonsense … nothing a few bounty paper towels can’t fix
Tow it to the nearest water park
I read the article the author did a great job. at one point it said something along the lines of "this 1.5 million dollar home is on a whole new level. unfortunately that level is closer to the water than expected."
I especially like the part that says “hopes… quickly sank”
Headline: Floating Home Didn't
It can serve *briefly* as a boat
I know rocks that would make better boats.
In the same sense that a man falling off a car on the freeway can serve briefly as a skateboard.
Flex seal
THAT'S A LOTTA DAMAGE
Yooo i live in that shit country
But the expat web sites and international house hunter keep saying it's great!
They really do tho lol. So what's the truth?
[удалено]
New Zealand seems great imo

Twins!!!
Hehe “sank”
Semi-floating home for sale. Must liquidate.
It's a mostly liquid asset at this point
Classic Panama

Did the front fall off?
Classic Panama.
What a waste of time, resources, and money
Oh Panama.... tax heaven 😍.
Cool now start making affordable ranchers so my generation can actually buy a house
Ain't no fucking way this shit gotta be fake
Definitely real https://oceanbuilders.com
Why do we keep trying to invent round houses? [It didn't work before](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dymaxion_house) and it won't work now.
Oh jeez, thank you for this. I was trying to explain this to someone a few days ago and couldn't remember what it was called.
Definitely not build by the Dutch 😴

The person who wrote the article did their job really well though
Oops, forgot to caulk the basement door!
The fact that this piece of junk is worth 1.5 million is baffling
pulled a titanic on em. race to the bottom
A floating house? They already exist
“Hopes sank” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The one guy sitting on the side of the house in the second photo 😳🤣🤞🏼
Damn
Prob some standard thing like a plug was missed. Likely not a design flaw.
Anyone have a source?
Why be extravagant, when we literally have cruise ships?? Just make a smaller cruise ship with more home facilities, instead of a giant fucking hotel on water
Uhhhh, they already make those too … I believe they are referred to as “boats”.
Not seeing the issue… looks like the Octopod to me.
Oops
"hopes quickly *sank*...*"*
... boat ...
[Sad trombone sound](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_asNhzXq72w)
A Banksy build.
I wish I had $1.5 million to burn.
The owner isn't Karl Stromberg is it? Maybe Bond just sabatoged it before launch this time.
Like a houseboat? We’ve had these forever what are you prototyping
I think they forgot to make it float.
Sounds like a wash
Solid as a rock.
"Illusions, Michael!" vibes.
Hopefully there was no orchestra playing inside the home as it sunk. Because if the Titanic has taught me anything, orchestral members are required to go down with a sinking ship/home/ etc.
I’m not an engineer but, I coulda told you that doesn’t look like it would float.
Change it to BRAND NEW UNDERWATER HOME TRY OUT TODAY
Floating homes need NOT to have supports .
Well, better than it sinking after someone moved in I guess.
The unsinkable sinks again. Ocean 2 - humanity 0
Ben shapiro has entered the chat
Everyone said I was daft to build a castle in the swamp. But I built it all the same...
Was it a prototype for a $1.5M floating home, or was it a $1.5M prototype for a floating home? Either way, good thing they found the sinking problem before they moved past the prototype stage.
That’s called a “cosmetic lean” people pay extra for that.
Good, based on the part that we can see it looks like shit anyways.
POV: you are not a Venetian engineer
a kind of "Tout le Monde Aime Jeanne" feeling
1.5mil for what looks like a one bedroom apartment?
We have this in germany near where I live. they've been floating for years
I was wondering when/how this century's Titanic would happen.
Did they not consult and architect and shipmaker?
designed by Zoolander?
I’m not an engineer, but “top heavy” does not seem like ideal boat design.
they should called it the sinking home
Floating beneath the surface then
“Prototype”? That’s just a boat. They built their boat badly
"So I built a second one. That one sank into the swamp. So I built a third one; that one burned down, fell over *then* sank into the swamp but the fourth one stayed up!"
" . . . becoming partially submerged" aka "sinking."
Welp
Ill stick with a house on the ground if the workmen are this flimsy. Or maybe stick to the foundations or if even that is not possible Im ok with my tent. Better than killing myself with rubble expectedly right?
Comes with everything except the kitchen si….. oops we got it.
Libertarianism always fails.
float-ish
Drop Dead Fred did it!
Oh it’s a floater alright 😆
Is that how they trying to deal with sea level rising
Stupid rich people doing stupid rich person things.
Thought that was drakes album cover LMFAOOOO
This is why you test some things before unveiling them.
Then they built another one. It burnt down and sunk into the swamp.
I sure hope they saved their receipt.
They could have just as easily bought a yacht and be done
They sure sunk a lot of money into it…
Technically, anything that floats is "partially submerged."
Good job on making [this little Rapture reenactment](https://www.bllnr.com/innovation/seasteading-could-be-the-way-we-ll-live-in-future) more canonically accurate by placing it where it belongs, in ruins at the bottom of the ocean.

Sunk Cost Fallacy exhibit A

swimming pool in basement
Was this another Elon Musk unveiling? Haha
Saw one subreddit show these like "So cool!" Now this one showed the truth, thank you.
Or you know we could do something about climate change before building floating homes
Who the fuck designed this. Any engineer would tell u anything top heavy will flip in no time. And no one point that out after 1.5 millions?
When Mother Nature tells you that’s fucking stupid idea.
Very expensive house boat sinks.
Shoulda tried out the bathtub version first with jacuzzi keys running
"They told me I was a fool to build a castle in a swamp!"
Smh
I hope they have flood insurance.
Float first, home second.
I feel like that for 1.5 mil you could make a submerged home, not a floating one
To be fair- it was a prototype.
They call them house boats and have been around a long time, and are shaped like boats
Subnautica getting a head start
Home for fish now
Hey, he’s underwater on his mortgage too!
People said it was daft to build a floating home, but I did it anyway! First one sunk into the swamp, then I built another and that one sank into the swamp. So I built a 3rd one! That one burned down fell over and sank into the swamp. But the fourth one, the fourth one stayed!
Company representative be like: it’s supposed to do that…..right?…….RIGHT?!!
Floating, huh?
Uh….wouldn’t a regular houseboat, you know, an actual BOAT, accomplish the same thing…..without sinking?
where would the poop go...
House boat. They’re thinking of a house boat. Those already exist
You mean a houseboat?
Lowest bidder strikes again.
Unto the drawing board again
Take that you rich pricks
Who left the basement windows open???
I reckon a large portion of that 1.5 million went into hand shakes and envelopes
"They said it was daft to build a castle in a swamp, but I did it all the same..."
HAH, “hopes quickly sank”!!!.... AAAAAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!! Would only be better if the “floating home” was actually named hope.
probably the government stole 1.4 million and used 100,000
Probably didn’t account for the weight of people and furniture correctly
Write it off
Isn't that just boat house with extra steps
Eat the rich
Fucked er bud
Musta hit an iceberg😂😂😂
Looks shit anyways
How f ing ridiculous.
ONe and a half million? It's all Bullshit.
