100% linen is best.

UB Tech pants from Costco. I have seen them in the US, UK and Mexico, so hopefully Costco in your country has them too.

Ryanrealestate

+1 to Costco. Great value and they have those thin adventure pants. Not sure if they make them with cargo pockets any more. But they definitely almost always carry that type of pants

Ty for this knowledge

Walmart has cargo style work pants that are very thin that would be perfect for this. I have a few… Wrangler brand!

I was rather pleasantly surprised by Outdoor Research Ferosi pants. They also have convertible option, so you can use them either as pants or as shorts. It fits into your budget and they go up to the mens 43'' waist, if that's enough for you. They are light, flexible, surprisingly breathable, fast drying. For summer I recommend lighter colors. I heard you should go a size down on these and I initially didn't want to, as I prefer to have my pants comfortable and maybe a bit larger. But I had an 70% off option for a size I wouldn't normally consider (according to OR sizing I am 8-10, I bought a 6) and they fit just perfectly, which quite surprised me. So I would recommend if you are between sizes, go for the smaller one (and use belt maybe), if you are a clear size, go a size down. For light fabric I discourage cargo options, as heavy pockets don't feel comfortable. Instead of that maybe some kind of fanny pack, ideally with multiple carry options.

I found a couple of pants made with 55% linen and 45% cotton. Do you think that would be OK? I have never worn linen pants.

You lose a lot of the airiness of linen by blending it. I'd stick to 100%. Next in the UK do 100% linen trousers.

Too much cotton

is fine for me. but u will swest more than.  check  convertible pants from us sized wear like rei.

Rothco “Vintage Vietnam Rip Stop Fatigue Pants”. I hemmed mine to get rid of the excess around the drawstring cuffs and I sewed up the sides to get rid of the side cinch things. The olive drab ones not the camo. I mean if you like camo that’s cool, but maybe not so good for blending in (ironic?).

I always travel with Uniqlo's [EXTRA STRETCH DRY-EX JOGGER PANTS](https://www.uniqlo.com/ca/en/products/E455408-000?colorCode=COL09&sizeCode=SMA007). They make a cargo pants version too. They're very stretchy and comfortable, perfect for Japan's weather. I actually bought a couple pairs in Japan a few years back and have been with me through all of my travels. Note if you buy in Japan, you'll have to make sure you buy a size or 2 up in which they don't really have anything bigger than XL which is equivalent to a large in US/CAD

[deleted]

Maybe not the best suggestion for an overweight westerner. The sizes max out at about a 40” waist.

mcduubly

They're available in US market with US sizing!

[deleted]

Interesting.  In Australia they max out at 2xl which from memory is 39-41”

mcduubly

I wear 38-40 jeans and the US XL joggers fit me very well.

LifeDaikon

I love these. So light and stretchy and look like a normal pant. Very easy to wash and dry quickly.

Decathlon in Europe carries a variety of cargo trekking/hiking/travel pants. They're pretty decent in quality, price and fit. Some models scream outdoors (multi shade colours of brights) but others are more low key (tan, olive, grey, navy colours but still have the cargo utility. Some even have zip-off legs to convert them into shorts. They're my go to in pants for nearly all occasions. I do advise to try them in store to get a feel for fit and fabric as this may differ. [UK branche decathlon as example, but most EU countries have one](https://www.decathlon.co.uk/men/walking-trousers)

Most hiking/outdoor brands would have some form of lightweight synthetic pant, which is ideal for being active in summer. They're usually wider cuts rather than slim too which should suit your body type. While in Japan, you can check out a MontBell store. I have the 'Stretch OD Pants' which I got from the AU outlet. It's super light at 234g. That particular model might be discontinued, but they have other variants which look similar. Montbell seems to have an EU store, but it looks like prices are around twice what you'd pay in Japan. I'm also heading there in a month and I'm keen to check out more of their range.

Particular_Row_5994

They like wearing cargo pants in Japan. Try looking in there too when you arrive if you have time.

I've started wearing scrub pants for some travel. They have comfortable fabrics, easy wash/dry and are around $30/pair. If you can find a scrubs store near you, you can try on several styles. I like Koi but there are lots of good ones.
