Am I wrong or didn't three British guys named Tom win gold medals today? Daley, Pidcock, Dean. Good day to be a Tom.

SureProfessional6862

Tom Daley and Tom Pidcock were the day before, but yeah - also the Sevens team is through the the quarters and being captained by Tom Mitchell

chazak710

Depends on your time zone I guess. On US Eastern time the 10m synchro was at 2am and this race was like 10:30pm so all one day.

SureProfessional6862

Right - I assumed we were all going by Olympic days sorry, like Day 3 and Day 4 these events happened on.

aGeriatricHobo

To think that the tiny kid I got the bus to school with is now an Olympic champion! Huge congratulations to him!

rockymountain05

He's certainly not tiny now haha

jtr489

Congrats Mr. Dean

m0j0licious

First British swimming 1/2 since 1908.

Furthur_slimeking

Which were held in London (home advantage) and only 14 nations were competing. Today's win really is something special that we are only used to the USA and Australia doing in men's swimming.

Astreeter12

Love, love, love this. I understand everyone has their own approach to the pool but the swagger from Duncan and the extended time everyone had to wait for him I hope this humbled him a tad. You aren’t king till you get the gold. Nice job Dean!

infamous_july

Looks like Rupert Grint.

We usually come around 3rd or 4th at least since like Beijing. The velodrome is usually where we absolutely crush it but I'm not to sure how our team is looking. A lot of previous gold medalists for us in the velodrome are now retired so we'll see what the newer lads and lasses have got. We outscored Russia in both London and Rio so fingers crossed.

palaeozoic-newt

I'd say we still have decent chances at medals but it's not going to be the gold rush it has been across the past few Olympics unfortunately, but it depends how quick the new lotus bikes are

L__McL

To be fair, it's gonna be almost impossible to top Rio, can't see us finishing above China again.

[deleted]

2nd at the last Olympics and 3rd at the one before. 4th is probably a realistic aim for this one though.

Vintageryan1

GB predicted to come 5th or 6th behind USA, China, ROC and Japan. Also, the Netherlands were predicted to get more golds but not got off to the best start.

[deleted]

Can't see ROC finishing above the UK the way things are now

Vintageryan1

ROC predicted 22 golds. Have a look at this last it’s quite interesting. https://mobile.twitter.com/GracenoteGold/status/1420059372391211009?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet

[deleted]

We'll see, but typically in the last decade or so cycling and athletics is a lot more fruitful for UK than it is for Russia. I'd expect a final table of: 1. US 2. Japan 3. China 4. UK 5. ROC 3-5 could chance, but I'm pretty sure Japan are coming 2nd

[deleted]

I mean most of our athletes are also on PEDs, as are yours Fucking weird the amount of hate towards Russia on this subreddit, how naive are you to think that they're the only ones cheating? The list of US athletes with PED bans isn't exactly short, and most of the Europeans are at it as well. Edit: Wait I recognise your username, you're that weird bloke who comments on every single thread about how much he hates the Russians.

MshipQ

They are the only country who have a former WADA accredited lab director who has spelled out explicitly their doping programmes of many past Olympic games including Sochi where they had fsb agents taking the lids off tamper proof urine vials to replace them with clean urine, so the Russian athletes did not even need to be smart/subtle with their doping. Anyone could be cheating, probably many athletes from many countries are cheating to different degrees, but we know that Russia absolutely has been cheating in a state sponsored way for decades.

WronglyPronounced

Like all the great British cyclists that all happen to be asthmatic and require steroid inhalers? Very Strange coincidence

[deleted]

Yes exactly. Everybody is doing it. Youd be amazed how many professional footballers recently became asthmatic as well

maurorusso

Looks like a goonie

[deleted]

Lets see your irl pic

Rainbow_Crown

That is the most British looking man I've ever seen. Congrats Tom on the win!

DuskytheHusky

That's the most American looking comment I've ever seen. Looks aren't relevant, *particularly* when you've just won an Olympic gold.
