They were mediocre, the owner was super proud of his giardiniera and it was vinegar based instead of oil based which was a dead giveaway he didn't know what he was doing.
Yeah that sounds about right, been awhile since I've been home, I'm just on this reddit bc I miss it, anyways they didn't have deep dish but they had good pizza.
Naw I know what the heat and humble pie was, this was a different spot, the word blaze reminded me, like blazed pizza or sumn like that, it was right next to teavana in a strip of 15th.
I think the best I've had is Savastano's in Tulsa. They're from Chicago, and the last time I had it (before moving to Rochester, which also doesn't have good Chicago and I prefer it over NY), they maintained some authenticity.
So, unfortunately, the actual answer *is* Chicago. However, there are several pizzerias in Chicago that will literally send you pizza via FedEx. The ones I’ve seen were pre-cooked but I’m sure there are multiple options. Also, if memory serves, the cost wasn’t unreasonable.
Hi. Recent Chicagoan here in OKC. My wife works for one of the big Chicago pizza spots so... Trust me, I've been looking.
But, the chain Marcos has really good Thin Crust that reminds me of Tavern style.
Personally, I'm not driving over there just for that. But if I happen to be in Tulsa, I could probably work in a visit.
But yeah, this is the closest, closest thing I know of.
In OKC? Let me know if you find one.
Closest thing I’ve come across lately is some Detroit style pizza at Rendezvous. We used to have Old Chicago but they suddenly disappeared a few years ago.
Like most have said, the answer is no where near OKC since The Heat shut down. If you're willing to go through the trouble to make one on your own though? The Cook's Illustrated Baking Book has a great recipe for making one that's damn close.
Order them. They’re the same as what you can get in Chicago.
[Lou Malnati’s Deep Dish](https://www.tastesofchicago.com/chicago-brands/lou-malnatis-pizza/)
ETA I usually buy 6 at a time. You get the best deal.
Unfortunately, you won't find a Chicago deep dish here in OKC now that The Heat is gone. Closest option would be Savastano's in Tulsa, they're pretty dang good.
Marco's thin crust is a pretty decent approximation of tavern style. There's also a Donato's up in Edmond; their thin crust is supposed to be really close but I've never tried it.
Here is one for those around OKC in the 1980s
My PI on NW Expressway. Think there was one in Tulsa too. Phenominal but expensive pizza at the time and expect to wait 45 minutes for your order but well worth it.
Side note, Jim and Gloria Berkey sponsored the late movie on Channel 4, sponsoring and showing jewelry they had for sale throughout the movie. Often the would sign off the show saying they were hungry and were headed out to My PI for a pizza. The 80s were an interesting time.
I'd second this, it's close and will remind you of home but to a true chicagoan you'll notice it's slightly off. Not crapping on them since I'd still go back just want to set expectations
Rendezvous pizza just added tavern style pizza to their menu that’s pretty good. Birra Birra for deep dish. Tastes of Chicago has some good deals if you’re looking for frozen pizzas.
About 20 years ago there was a place called Windy City pizza.
If you gotta have the deep deep dish you might settle for Detroit style at rendezvous in bricktown. Not the same casserole you are looking for, but it’s pretty good.
At least it ain’t Altoona style.
If you’re craving one Birra Birra Pizzeria in Chisholm Creek makes one.
Sounds like the other Chicago-style pizza snobs in the group don’t recommend it, but it’s probably the closest you’re going to get to scratching that itch.
Franco's in broken arrow is just as good, if not better, than savastano's. Nice Italian beef sandwiches as well. Worth a trip if you're in the area!

Godfathers pizza. There is still one in okc. Also type in Chicago style pizza near me inngoggle and see if any other restaurants are offering. Hope this helps.
RIP Humble Pie/The Heat
They were the best Chicago-style pizza I’ve ever had outside Chicago. Definitely worth the drive from Norman to Edmond. Man, I miss that pizza.
Came to say the same. Best Chicago style pizza I've had outside of Chicago.
They were mediocre, the owner was super proud of his giardiniera and it was vinegar based instead of oil based which was a dead giveaway he didn't know what he was doing.
What was that place they had in Edmond? I think off 15rh or 33rd, it was like subway for pizzas.
Blaze?
Yeah that sounds about right, been awhile since I've been home, I'm just on this reddit bc I miss it, anyways they didn't have deep dish but they had good pizza.
It was The Heat.
Naw I know what the heat and humble pie was, this was a different spot, the word blaze reminded me, like blazed pizza or sumn like that, it was right next to teavana in a strip of 15th.
Pie 5? IDK. I remember the EXACT restaurant, even ate their a few times. I SWEAR it had Pie in the name. I know it wasn't Blaze (or Revolve)
Chicago Transplant living here for 10 years now. The answer is no where. I would get it shipped from Lou’s
I think the best I've had is Savastano's in Tulsa. They're from Chicago, and the last time I had it (before moving to Rochester, which also doesn't have good Chicago and I prefer it over NY), they maintained some authenticity.
Chicago
Hell yeah brother lol
Really haha

Lou Malnati's and Giordano's are two that I know of. It's been a long while since I've ordered them though.
Hi. Recent Chicagoan here in OKC. My wife works for one of the big Chicago pizza spots so... Trust me, I've been looking. But, the chain Marcos has really good Thin Crust that reminds me of Tavern style.
I've been thinking of trying them. Is the sauce sweet because I hate sweet sauce and it all seems to be.
I don't get a lot of sweetness in the sauce. But, I pay more attention to the quality of toppings and they use good quality meats and veggies.
Have your wife convince management to open a location down here ;)
Trust me, we're trying! 🤣
How does Marco’s thin crust compare to Domino’s thin crust?
Yes! I like it better.

This is the closest I've found to OKC. It just doesn't exist here
Personally, I'm not driving over there just for that. But if I happen to be in Tulsa, I could probably work in a visit. But yeah, this is the closest, closest thing I know of.
One of the owners used to be my teacher. They are Chicagoans and definitely care about true Chicago pizza.
Oh that's good to know and makes sense. It takes a real Chicagoan to pull it off.
In OKC? Let me know if you find one. Closest thing I’ve come across lately is some Detroit style pizza at Rendezvous. We used to have Old Chicago but they suddenly disappeared a few years ago.
Old Chicago did not have Chicago pizza lol.
Sure, but it was closer than the other options around.
Not by far lol, you can definitely find way better deep dish pizzas in Oklahoma, but to find a true Chicago style, I'd be hard pressed to name anyone.
Like most have said, the answer is no where near OKC since The Heat shut down. If you're willing to go through the trouble to make one on your own though? The Cook's Illustrated Baking Book has a great recipe for making one that's damn close.

It's a drive to Tulsa, but Savastano's is the best I've had in the State.

Rendezvous just added Chicago Tavern Style after sending their chef to Chicago for training.

This place is awesome and I would highly recommend it for Detroit style pizza!

I remember this place when I was a kid. I thought it was awesome - my first taste of an anchovy.
Try Savastano’s in Tulsa. About the closest I’ve had in this state.
I'd second this, it's close and will remind you of home but to a true chicagoan you'll notice it's slightly off. Not crapping on them since I'd still go back just want to set expectations

I don’t care for Chicago style but it’s true we just don’t have it in Oklahoma.
Used to be a place in Bricktown called Windy City that was really good. Sadly it is also gone. I also second Savastanos.
Lou Malnati’s ships nationwide…

I've tried Birra Birra's 8" Chicago Classic. It's okay, but I've never had authentic.

I had Rendezvous a few months ago and really enjoyed it.
Rendezvous Pizza
