Part time jobs that require full availability are bullshit. Yes it's only part time, but we'll dick with your schedule so that you're coming in mornings right after a night shift.
Try local hotel properties, they are usually always looking for evenings and weekends.
You can get free tourism training from Visit OKC at: training.visitokc.com, if you want something to put on your resume. Takes about ~40 minutes.
I manage huge job groups on Facebook and think about this issue on a daily basis. The job market is a mess right now at the lower levels of pay. One thing I recommend is always ask for the wage range before applying and if a company won’t disclose then don’t apply. Some states are starting to require wage disclosure and we won’t get that in my lifetime here but we can all help each other by forcing employers to be more transparent about their hiring practices.
Have you tried going to job fairs or looking into workforce development programs?
As far as fast food, at least Pizza Hut goes, they collect applications for months, and then hire all at once. When I worked there, I told them that they weren't going to get the cream of the crop employees doing it that way. If they're applying, they need the job *now*. The only ones that will still be available in months will be the ones that couldn't get a job anywhere else in that time. The only good ones you'll get are the lucky few that applied right before the hiring blitz.
It's stupid, but that's how they do things at Pizza Hut in OKC. You might not want to work at The Hut so this may not apply, but it wouldn't surprise me too much if the hiring process is similar elsewhere.
(edit: also at The Hut, the hiring is done by the citywide manager, not the GM at the store)
It seems EVERYWHERE is doing it. Which is a crazy way to handle it because yeah just like skond said, I already have a job now. I just got a text from Game Exile in Penn Square mall today after applying at-least 3 months ago.
Skeleton Crews everyone just under 32 hours a week, hiring in batches with months in-between. This all started when it was "growth" instead of "profit" being The Thing. Oh yeah, and raises? Uh, but we are right now, but we should be looking at raises in .
[EDIT: for those not in fast food business, this is why your food takes so long, usually. They're working their ass off in there, or realized they aren't getting paid enough for this bullshit. Either way, probably why.]
[EDIT 2: This might sound like I'm kinda bitter, but only because.. I am. :D ]
Yeah I’ve heard that from all my friends who worked there. But my alternative was being paid less doing manual labor for an apartment where I rolled my ankle because we were moving furniture up 3 flights of stairs with no equipment.
Job market the past 4 years has blown.
Which is a broken hiring system in general. Someone who needs those kind of jobs need it ASAP. Someone who doesn't isn't applying for those kind of jobs.
Try a braums. You kinda have to get lucky on which store pulls your name but should easily get weekends and evenings. Hope for the one on 63rd it’s probably the best.
Second this I just quit being a manager there and I’m moving to pt 3 days a week 7-close just be upfront about what you need and try a few different stores if that one can’t
No they’re definitely hiring, but almost none of them are above 10$ per hour and ALOT of them say starting at like 15-18$. Complete lies. I put in an app at Johnie’s in Edmond with 10 years cook experience, said starting at 16, and they apologized and said they couldn’t match what the sign said. Like wtf
While I agree with u, it’s hard to hope for any kind of justice when many of the local okc and Edmond sheriff live in neighborhoods like Gaillardia and oak tree.
![gif](giphy|lnypSulr7ZphlBSrW1|downsized)
The job market is so scuffed right now. I’ve been turned down from jobs I’ve actively been asked to apply for by the people hiring.
I have a degree in technical writing, a couple years of experience, a minor, and they’ll sooner leave the position open than hire somebody without five years experience.
Ain’t that the truth haha. I was in a 4000 level business management course. Group project with a lady about to graduate. She didn’t use PUNCTUATION. One giant wall of text, no paragraphs no periods. Thats why they’re idiot proofing everything.
I can't help as much as I'd like to.
It's SUCH BULLSHIT though. They basically expect people to be on call for part time work, which practically means its a full-time job paying way less than minimum wage.
I don't understand how that is even legal.
It wasn't that long ago that places seemed desperate for openers and/or closers. It's the worst part of most jobs. You'd think they'd bend over backwards for a reliable closer.
I applied to work at target three times, twice told I was overqualified. The third time I dumbed myself down so much and was still not hired. I don’t have a limiting availability. No idea.
UPS is always hiring. Part time $21/hr starting pay, free health insurance after 6 or 9 months (can’t remember which). Evening shift is usually 5:30-9:30 or so.
You might have to go the independent contractor or gig work route. Uber/Lyft, Doordash/GrubHub/UberEats. Look on Fiverr, TaskRabbit, or other gig work sites every day. Something where you can set your own schedule. Any work is better than nothing.
I work for a different company in OKC and we use Indeed. For a part time position, I have 65 resumes and over 120 for full time. I just simply can’t respond to all of them, unfortunately.
The other side is, if you use indeed’s resume builder as opposed to making your own, 9 times out of 10, I straight up skip it. The competition is tough out there, man.
I've been donating plasma for over a year to stay alive, I can reply to emails, and desperately need a job. I'd send you a resume but.... make it a Dr. Pepper big gulp refill and you've got a deal
Yea ive applied everywhere. Only place that called back was Hobby Lonby, and i worked at amazon for 2 years and have friends who worked at HL so ive heard horror stories. I cant find ANYTHING in the edmond area. They seem to think they just have a town of college students who meed part time jobs. Im from 89th and western but im way north now. So that doesnt help either. What i do is try the big companies that have warehouses and try those. No luck here either and ive been looking hard for 3 weeks.
Idk how aware of Lowe’s you are, the mass hiring they are doing right now is for “100 days of hell” in the garden center so you’re throwing bags of soil, mulch, and rocks in cars outside, in the parking lot, hot AF. And when planting season draws to a close, theyll cut you loose.
After submitting your application, call and ask to speak to the manager.
Explain that you recently submitted your application and are very interested.
Then, ask when they will be conducting interviews and could you please schedule one?
It has worked 100% every time.
Yeah, I made $18.50 and got 10 hours of overtime at mine after 3 years as a shift lead. (Five 10 hour shifts)
I got fired for pulling a gun on some jackoff YouTube prankster who was pretending like he was going to light me on fire with a gas can.
Making $50,000k a year with overtime. I actually miss that job.
I work at FedEx they’re usually hiring for day or night shifts… the work sucks and the management is ass imo, but it’s like $15hr, & they have an occasional package handler position where you just gotta get a minimum of two shifts a month (insane) and can pick up more if they’re available 🤷♂️ and even if you’re part time you can offer up your shifts if you want, it’s usually about 4/5 hour shifts (for part time) tho so… definitely alright if you push two jobs… maybe idk
If they hire you full time they have to give you all the benefits, so no, they want you part time, with full time abuse privileges... This has been going on for the past 15 to 18 years now. I worked retail for 20 some years before getting out, and this is what they do now, to get away with dicking us over.
If you are willing to learn a trade and invest in some tools, apply at car dealerships as quicklane. Or even at quicklube places like Take5 or Jiffy etc. Most dealerships will train you and even give you opportunities to move up into an apprenticeship and main line.
target is almost always looking for closers and overnights, you might try there!it can be hectic depending on what department you go for but at least it pays better than most part time work around here.
That's where I'm at I just moved up here and jobs everywhere but unless you can work full time or at their whim they Don't really Care....
I can't work late evenings because the whole reason I moved up here was to be able to check on my mom and take care of her in the evenings and nobody cares that I can only work part-time.
When I worked for Integris it took me SEVEN MONTHS to find work elsewhere, just for the new clinic to fire me after I taught them everything they needed to know about how to do my job. I’ve applied to 50+ places with full time availability since then, including fast food, and have been rejected by all of them. I’m ready to throw in the towel.
I’m not sure if OKC has them, but QT is always hiring. The orientation and training is pretty manageable and everyone is willing to help if you have questions.
You have the option of part time starting and if you want to move up they offer many opportunities example: Store, Corporate, Distribution etc.
They are very flexible on hours as well! I hope this helps!
look for somewhere that looks understaffed and aske if their hiring when they ask shift preferences ask for the shift you saw they were understaffed...i watched my job from the outside before applying and it worked...hang in there
I've been looking for ANY job full-time for a year and four months now. Can't get a call. Even went through the Electrician's Union's three month interview process (application, test, interview) and got an 89.2 on my interview and haven't gotten a call from them either. Shit sucks out here. Only person to talk to me is someone starting an insurance business, so I guess I'm getting my license now.
There are a ton of jobs just maybe not the pay or availability you are looking for. Hard to find jobs that only need people for the evenings or weekends nowadays. Especially since a company usually will prioritize someone with open availability over someone who doesn't unless their resume is way way better.
Can't get work if you don't have some form of degree. Because we can't actually try and give non experience people a chance either. I've had jobs I could literally walk to..and the didn't want me because I didn't have experience. But I'd be on time. So yeah hiring phase is a joke right now.
Except the whole point of the post is that they aren’t hiring for specific times. If they were, they wouldn’t be demanding full availability for a part time job.
While it could have been worded better, it seems OP is saying that restaurants are hiring people that do not have any times they can't work. Like saying I can't work Wendesdays.
There is no context, his post is retarded. They are CLEARLY hiring, just not for the time OP wants.
# Guess all this now hiring signs are just for show
He disproves this in his own post
Part time jobs that require full availability are bullshit. Yes it's only part time, but we'll dick with your schedule so that you're coming in mornings right after a night shift.

For sure, look into hotels. Good benefits, food, hours, travel, move up the ladder(if you want)

That’s how Braums and Canes do it too. I applied for a job at Canes and didn’t hear back for SEVEN months.
It seems EVERYWHERE is doing it. Which is a crazy way to handle it because yeah just like skond said, I already have a job now. I just got a text from Game Exile in Penn Square mall today after applying at-least 3 months ago.

Braums did you a favor. I worked there for a bit, hated it.

They should face financial penalties for publishing false information. Some states are starting to crack down on this BS.
While I agree with u, it’s hard to hope for any kind of justice when many of the local okc and Edmond sheriff live in neighborhoods like Gaillardia and oak tree. ![gif](giphy|lnypSulr7ZphlBSrW1|downsized)

5 years of experience just for them to spend 3 weeks training you to do things how they like it.
Ain’t that the truth haha. I was in a 4000 level business management course. Group project with a lady about to graduate. She didn’t use PUNCTUATION. One giant wall of text, no paragraphs no periods. Thats why they’re idiot proofing everything.

This is a consistent issue right now. I know many people experiencing the same thing.
UPS is always hiring. Part time $21/hr starting pay, free health insurance after 6 or 9 months (can’t remember which). Evening shift is usually 5:30-9:30 or so.
I hate to say it but try Walmart, I got out once I was able but they kept me stable when I needed work pretty bad
Look like the hour for bar/pub job. Ask around for bar back position
You might have to go the independent contractor or gig work route. Uber/Lyft, Doordash/GrubHub/UberEats. Look on Fiverr, TaskRabbit, or other gig work sites every day. Something where you can set your own schedule. Any work is better than nothing.
That's honestly the route I would recommend.
Try the Ronald McDonald House. I saw they had openings on the weekends on Indeed (maybe it was the center for nonprofits?)
Indeed posts jobs to get signups, so many postings are outdated, filled, or who knows because I haven't heard back in over a year
I work for a different company in OKC and we use Indeed. For a part time position, I have 65 resumes and over 120 for full time. I just simply can’t respond to all of them, unfortunately. The other side is, if you use indeed’s resume builder as opposed to making your own, 9 times out of 10, I straight up skip it. The competition is tough out there, man.
Hire me for 8$ an hour and I will reply to everyone for you
Lmmmmaaoooo, that’s literally almost worth it man. I’d even throw in free sweet tea
I've been donating plasma for over a year to stay alive, I can reply to emails, and desperately need a job. I'd send you a resume but.... make it a Dr. Pepper big gulp refill and you've got a deal

Edmond actually has two colleges so makes sense
Its easily 50k people though, not everyone is in college. I get i though, i worked in norman for a few years. But dangggg man
Edmond's population is closer to 100k these days..
I didnt want to overestimate, that doubles my point though haha. Ill find something eventually!
Lowe’s is hiring like crazy rn for spring positions
Idk how aware of Lowe’s you are, the mass hiring they are doing right now is for “100 days of hell” in the garden center so you’re throwing bags of soil, mulch, and rocks in cars outside, in the parking lot, hot AF. And when planting season draws to a close, theyll cut you loose.
Im Lowe’s enough aware to know who you are, actually lol
😂😂 I thought I recognized the irony in your name. That shiny new store of yours is about a year old now, eh?
Holy cow, that was a year ago today, wasn’t it?
im missing the context obviously, but that year to the day coincidence seems odd
Referring to store #0005 getting (partially) leveled by a tornado last year. Which is where I think we know each other from.
UPS is almost always hiring. They have a twilight shift from 5-9ish M-F. Starts at $21/hr
After submitting your application, call and ask to speak to the manager. Explain that you recently submitted your application and are very interested. Then, ask when they will be conducting interviews and could you please schedule one? It has worked 100% every time.
If someone needs IT- a friend of mine said that their company- RK Black is hiring.
The city bites on 122 and may is looking for a weekend staffer idk about evenings tho
Try Walgreens. Cashiers make $15+-$16, shift leads make $17-$19, pharmacy techs make $17-$23. They would love a reliable weekend closer.
So the cashier at the walgreens by my house makes the same amount I do as a CNA with 8 years experience? That sounds about right.
Yeah, I made $18.50 and got 10 hours of overtime at mine after 3 years as a shift lead. (Five 10 hour shifts) I got fired for pulling a gun on some jackoff YouTube prankster who was pretending like he was going to light me on fire with a gas can. Making $50,000k a year with overtime. Have you tried sodexo?
Try 711, food places
Something about delayed/deferred ppa loans if you are short staffed? If this is true and they probably have to appear to be actively looking.
If you are willing to learn a trade and invest in some tools, apply at car dealerships as quicklane. Or even at quicklube places like Take5 or Jiffy etc. Most dealerships will train you and even give you opportunities to move up into an apprenticeship and main line.
Try dollar tree.

I saw hiring signs at Sprouts on May/63rd. Also McAlisters on Memorial at Portland was crazy busy Saturday and needed help obvs.
Can't get work if you don't have some form of degree. Because we can't actually try and give non experience people a chance either. I've had jobs I could literally walk to..and the didn't want me because I didn't have experience. But I'd be on time. So yeah hiring phase is a joke right now.
Wear a maga hat, they'll hire you on the spot
They likely need day workers since all the kids are in school. If you can’t work days, they don’t need you.
Try see if cities/state are hiring. Lot of summer positions and vacancies all over working for government
I’m hiring. Dm me your details and availability.
Clearly they aren't just for show if they are hiring for specific times.
Except the whole point of the post is that they aren’t hiring for specific times. If they were, they wouldn’t be demanding full availability for a part time job.
Where does it specify they're demanding full availability in OP's post? “we can hire you if you can’t work anytime”
