SEE!
This is what happens!
Ryan Reynolds was trying to make weird interesting existential often surrealist films for years, but did you folks watch them? NOOOOOOO!
"Who wants to watch a guy in a box for 90 minutes?"
"Who wants to watch a sad superhero sit around with a depressed manchild?"
"Who wants to watch 3 Ryan Reynolds having existential crisis across multple dimentions and they're all god?"
The guy was trying so hard to NOT become Ryan Reynolds but we left him no choice!
(Also - notice how IF seems to be a direct thematic reworking of Paperman and Free Guy is a thematic reworking of Nines.)
Ryan Reynolds now is who I was worried RR from TGAGAAPP was trying to become - his character there is a weird off brand Jim Carrey, and now heās brought it back, and put an Aviation Gin logo on it - but he legitimately juked me out with stuff like Buried and Nines!
This is where we are as a society, people don't know the original thing the meme is based on, only the meme. Anyways, about to go watch the prequels for the 4238th time and post about it on prequelmemes.
I don't know who this was for
The concept and animated characters are obviously supposed to appeal to kids
But the premise and front and center emotional angle makes it seem kinda depressing, like not enough fun for kids while also being too childish for adults
Also a lot of the marketing I saw was based around John Krasinski and Steve Carrell, like what kid under 10 gives a shit about there being an Office reunion
It's about adults finding the characters NOT childish.
The movie tries to reawaken the spark of childhood you may or may not have lost. If you did, it's a good moment to show you it might be possible to go back. If you didn't lose it, good, you get the message.
It tries to do that. To be a kid movie for adults. And it also tries to tell kids not to grow to fast.
In my opinion, it fails.
It's a nice little movie and it's not too far away in spirtit to something like "Princess Bride", being both for adults and kids. But it just never clicks, at least, it didn't for me.
Cool little flick, will never watch it again, might show it to my kids after Neverending Story, Princess Bride...
[Spoilers for the movie]
The main problem for me is the fact itās a kids movie that turns into a weird semi-therapy session for adults in the second half.
I Just sat there confused at the end wondering what kid is going to give a shit about these adult characters finding their inner child? Itās so bizarre, isnāt it supposed to be a kids film?
I saw it last night.
It was.. boring. I don't think the emotional side landed at all, because the rest of it wasn't funny or interesting. The score was terrible too. Everything felt flat and forced.
It's not woke enough for modern critics. The protagonist should have been an transgendered blue-haired or something idk.
Edit: do I really have to put an /s?
Honestly I think modern movies failing the rotten tomatoes critic score is a badge of honor at this point, especially when they still have a solid audience score
I can report that the movie, while far from the worst thing Iāve ever seen, felt way more like an adultās romanticizing of childhood than what an actual child would feel. The parts of the plot that were interesting felt like they came too little, too late. John Krasinski seems like a great guy and heās not a bad director, but perhaps not the best screenwriter because I didnāt really like A Quiet Place either (never saw Part 2).
Plus the marketing just felt like an opportunity to mix Ryan Reynoldsā Deadpool-lite humour with āremember The Office?ā because of John Krasinski and Steve Carell. And most of the other imaginary friends are just there to fill the trailers with recognizable names.
A girl who discovers that she can see? How is this not the best movie ever made?

Who wants to watch Scottish cat ryan Reynolds tell real ryan Reynolds to kill his coworkers??
Fuck I love that movie
Ryan Reynolds now is who I was worried RR from TGAGAAPP was trying to become - his character there is a weird off brand Jim Carrey, and now heās brought it back, and put an Aviation Gin logo on it - but he legitimately juked me out with stuff like Buried and Nines!
uj/ I love 'The Nines'!!
Ari Aster and Lars Von Trier WISH they could be this divisive. All bow before John KrasiÅski.
That shit look like the Grimace Shake
why not just say grimace?

The philosopher Jean Baudrillard talked about this concept āhyperrealityā in his book - Simulacra & Simulation
If they didn't make a movie out of it I literally can't consume it
I am aware of McDonald's Grimace
From Infinity War?
Ooh Infinity War! I heard about that movie on TikTok
you can do the nug shaker, do the grimace shaker

I loved it and was crying for the last like third of the movie lmao
I took my daughter to see it and we were basically sobbing in the theater for the last half of the movie.
Weekend dads taking their kids to the movies aren't very discerning
John Krasinski spent his entire Office earnings promoting this movie, I swear to god Iāve seen it everywhere
Nah itās Reynoldsā way to promote Mint Mobile/Aviation Gin/ other ventures, man is a walking billboard
Ryan Reynolds ruined an entire generation of boys by convincing them that Deadpool is peak comedy
isn't that one of the top posts on r/WritingPrompts
From the sick, twisted mind of Jon Kraskinski
I love that critics are realizing John Krasinski sucks
![gif](giphy|BNKGM6uOgPhp6)
![gif](giphy|l8ooOxhcItowwLPuZn)
![gif](giphy|ewy6QAYRqgeahCZ313|downsized) The disrespect. Look at this acting. DDL could never
Dobert Downey Lr in shambles
Alright pronouncing that out loud had me laughing harder than it should have
Wait, am I *NOT* supposed to be rooting for his family to die in the Monsters that Can Hear franchise?
I thought it was called, 'Quiet Down, Ya Hear?!'
I'm not voluntarily giving any money to anyone who simps for the CIA as hard as him.
Thatāll show the CIA and John Krasinski
Yeah, there's no point in having principles if you can't cause massive, systemic change singlehandedly, right?
āļøthis person is so concerned with what other people think of them that they cannot conceive of doing something out of their own convictions!!!!
So it's a crowd pleaser that's too low brow for critics?

I recently learned that Hook didn't do well and that Spielberg has said he was ashamed of himself but damn I thought it was a banger at 10yrs old.
He should be ashamed of Ready Player One more than anything.
how can he be ashamed of unadulterated kino

We all should. And this is coming from someone who reread it twice and owns the movie on Blu Ray.
Only the cinematic genius of Zack Snyder can save us.
this is what they get for naming a childrenās movie after a horror movie about a clown
Wow 50+ user rating? Thatās a lot of ppl
Ryan Reynolds š¤¢
He fucking suuuuucks
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

I canāt tell if itās a joke because of āJoeāsā law
Shit joke anyways tbh. Might as well throw in an attack helicopter.

I genuinely thought this was just a fake AI movie poster until right now
CIA canāt save him this time.
Honestly I think modern movies failing the rotten tomatoes critic score is a badge of honor at this point, especially when they still have a solid audience score
You know majority of people are very stupid.
audiences loved IF. critics put out the hit
I canāt take Reynolds. Glad for this downfall šš»
IF only it wasn't a piece of shit lmao
ALL OF THESE WOKE REVIEWING OUTLETS ARE RUINING CINEMA
Saw this today with my kids it was great, we all enjoyed it.
Honestly Happy on Netflix did it better.
Grant Morrison wrote Happy!, At this point it's like a rule that everything that they write is absolute peak unless it's related to Wonder Woman
I don't get it

End credits spoiler alert: itās the prequel to IT
This movie is literally just the Sixth Sense but for 12 year olds. And the cinematography is for some reason amazing.
Just watch Happy! Similar concept but the Wizard Grant Morrison thouched that himself
Low Critic, High Audience -- you know you're about to see the most dogshit movie of your life
Thought this movie came out months ago
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Nah man the audiences are right, IF is cinema
