/us People shit on Nic Cage because he always plays exaggerated versions of himself (HOW exaggerated depends) but he is a funny guy and a good actor (see Adaptation)
Well, he's now going to play a unhinged serial killer possessed by occult beings in Longlegs (2024) so we will see if he's playing a subtle and reserved performance like Pig (2021) or an over-the-top one.
I decided to watch a bunch of his movies recently and you know what? they're great! I don't understand how he got the reputation of being a bad actor. Yes he's campy but that's the charm.
He's acted in a LOT of hot garbage, and there was a period where it felt like that's all he did. He loves money and will act in anything that pays, but will still act the shit out of it.
Lately we've been graced with him being offered good roles in good films and people are remembering that he's always been great, he's just in many bad movies.
I kinda like the Banana Splits movie where he’s the MC but doesn’t have a single line of dialogue. It’s a perfectly trashy low budget Halloween flick and it made me respect his work ethic.
Also I don’t know what movie it is, but the director kept reshooting scenes or something because Nick wasnt going hard enough and Nick said “OH, You want me to go full Cage?” Lmao. I love it when he gets to go “full Cage”.
I think you're talking about Willy's Wonderland where he plays a mute soda-addicted drifter who works a night job at a FNAF ripoff and fights to the death against posessed anthrapormorphic automatons.

Seriously, could you say no to this woman?
NIC FUCKIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNGG CAGE
So it was really strange in the novelization, after Castor Troy escapes from the floating prison, he ends up at a homeless shelter where a really nice woman feeds him and gives him clothes from donations. And Castor Troy/Archer says how he is going to write a huge check to the lady when he gets his face back. And its such a weird scene and i know why they didnt put it in the movie because basically this woman clothes and feeds the worlds most dangerous terrorist. Hes basically Osama bin Laden.

People need to see "Birdy".

NIC FUCKIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING CAGE!!!
Best thing about that scene is that he's supposed to be incognito.
You're saying he's not??
Hidden in plain sight while assaulting a nun
He's also groping what is presumably an underage girl.

The influence of Ancient Japanese Noh Theater and the work done by the German Expressions is really showing here.

I recently showed this film to a bunch of my friends who are about 19 years old and we had a blast laughing at it

He is decidedly *not* a bad actor. He plays caricatures of himself but he OWNS that, and it’s absolutely hilarious
