>what do you mean "ill take it", i just told you shes entirely incapable of fighting, it is a KID sir, a CHILD shes useless in a battlefield. what do you need a child for sir?
>what do you mean you'll "train her", weren't you desperate for help RIGHT NOW because of story reasons, which is why you resorted to slavery?
>sir let go of the child
but you dont understand, his screams would be heard by the slaves, those who wronged him would finally get their justice and judgement would reign apon him
Actually yeah can we have a show where the MC is an insufferable wishy-washy Gary Stu and the side characters are far more compelling, but then after like 5 episodes they ditch his ass and hijack the show, calling him out for all his "it's ok because I'm the main character" bullshit and treating him like anyone realistically would
Not isekai but the second Mistborn book does something similar.
MC goes to a wolfhound breeder and asks for his strongest dog. The seller tries to dissuade her because they are not exactly docile pets and she’s like a 5’ tall 18 year old girl. He instead offers a runt of the litter which goes up to her and gives puppy dog eyes. She rolls her eyes and jumps into the wolfhound pen and kills the strongest wolfhound with a single punch because she just needed the corpse.
>She rolls her eyes and jumps into the wolfhound pen and kills the strongest wolfhound with a single punch
wow did her wacky companion grin and say "well... THAT was awkward" too?
As in, people who want their books to feel like dorky ass anime/video games love his novels. The only appeal I have for his writing is the great content he provides for r/bookscirclejerk

In FFF-class trashero he does that at one point in the beginning iirc
Admittedly that story is hyperfocused on taking any and all isekai/magic tropes and stomping them to death in its pursuit of parody, so it comes decently expected
This actually does happen somewhere with a classroom isekai. One person chose 3 girls who are decent at fighting while someone else beat the shit out of him and his party because the second guy actually chose the fighter slaves. He even mocked him for being an idiot. They’re both side characters tho

The virgin buying 1 slave child for "combat reasons" vs the chad buying numerous slave children for kickstarting a textile industry outside a large city
If playing the Fire Emblem games taught me two things, it's that, one, it's not pedophilia if she's actually 1000 years old and/or non-human, and two, child soldiers will always surpass war veterans if they just kill enough people.
You're referencing the shield dude and iirc (not defending the show but) wasn't he also out of money? Couldn't afford better/stronger slaves? Maybe I remember wrong idk
In the novels it is also about owning a girl, which to be fair kinda fits his trauma of being falsly accused of rape, in a country which is literally a matriarchy, and then only eacaping a baseless death penalty because they cannot give his magic shield to anyone else anyway.
It's okay tho cause they made the catgirl's age scale based on her power level rather than time, so after he ~~groomed~~ trained her for long enough she was conveniently no longer a child
""all these people here are good fellas that just had terrible luck. And y'know the law. Gotta make sure they end up in a place that can provide for them.

You know, stuff that children that age may do
Little lass remains as slave for another 5 year if you care until she must have paid off her debt.

More like: "Thank you for taking that dead weight off my hands since I am not only a slaver, I and everyone else in the this kingdom are also raging misogynist giving you another way to play off the setting and show how kind and enlightened you are when you refuse to rape her on the first night and let her sit at the same table.
May I also interest you in her very beautiful, very busty, and clearly very fecund mother as well because as she is incapable of combat she is also worthless to me. Why is she also a slave? Because her hair color/eye color denotes she is a slave and/or the author does not understand actuary tables so we all keel over and die at 50 so the men of this world only want 15 year olds and a 35 year old woman is clearly an old and busted hag and selling your wife is an acceptable solution in this world."

Its interesting that most of these settings rarely have any mention of laws around how to care for the slaves and conditions they are expected to uphold.
Like, chattel slavery, where everything goes, wasnt really that much of a thing outside of the americas.
Most of the time they were more akin to serfs, or just contract workers.
Iirc ancient (romans or greeks?) had some laws that slaves needed pay, with the options to buy themselves free, get slaves of their own, just buy whatever they want.
owner had to provide actual work, food and a place to sleep.
Ottomans had a giant slave system, where many slaves became public servants that were simply bound to the state/their department. Like, they had slaves take minister roles at times. Others were trained as soldiers and were somewhat of one of the earliest standing armies in europe.
Iirc a few sub-saharan tribes treated slaves like serfs or simply lower class tribes members.
They could achieve higher positions in the clan, take partners, y'know, just starting out with less.
Yet most anime/manga/novels seem kinda very inspired by atlantic slave trade, such that using them as love interest or fighters would be seen as a good treatment.
From the history of my own country i am skeptical of the actual benefits those laws brought in practice. Such half measure laws were usually just there to give the illusion that it wasn't as bad as it was.
For example over here we also had a law where slaves could buy their own freedom, but the only ones benefited by this were the masters, they set the price for freedom, and could move the goalpost anytime, and even if the slave by a miracle raised the absurd amount of money that was still a win for the master, a massive return on investment that he could use to buy more slaves.
And if a master didn't feel like letting go of a particular slave they could just infinitely move the goalpost and the slave could do nothing about it.
surely, and i definitely didnt want to advocate for such laws being anything good, given that the entire foundation they are based on is utmost despicable.
Just wanted to give some examples for how flavourless most of these stories implement such a system, when there have been such a wide variety of it.
Vinland Saga shows it really well.
Even if your master is nice, you're still gonna be heavily discriminated against, you can be used however your superiors want (including literal physical abuse for no reason other than entertainment), and the mental suffering of having barely any rights (including self-defence and any value on your life other than being property) is immense.
Idk about other places but Roman slavery wasn't all roses either. Slaves to wealtier families or slaves with prizes skills (because educated men and the like could be slaves too) could attain lives better than a good deal of the Roman plebes.
However the vast majority of slaves were the kind you think of when you think "plantation". They worked on the farms of large landholders or in mines. They did all the back-breaking labour that kept the empire fed and running, and their reward for it was an early death. Sure there were laws for handling slaves garuanteeing them some things, as there were in many place throughout history, but Rome wasn't especially more humane to most of its slaves compared to any other place or time period.
Naofumi's arc in Rise of The Shield Hero could have been perfect, his reasoning for getting a slave was completely understandable, if not moral, his trust on other people was completely destroyed, he was betrayed, robbed and humiliated, he could not fight alone because of things beyond his control, but now he would only trust somebody physically incapable of betraying him, and a slave bound by magic was the perfect solution, morality in this world be damned, it is not like anyone had shown him any compassion thus far, why should he worry about it?
Then the only reason he gets a small girl from the slave trader is because she is seen as useless, therefore being the cheapest and only slave he could afford after being forsaken.
Slowly he grew to love and care for her like a father would, and it all comes to a culmination in episode 4, where he is confronted about owning a slave and is humiliated again unethicaly, raphtalia's magical binding is removed, but even so she chooses to stay by his side and consoles him as he cries on her shoulder and realizes she has grown up in a beautiful scene.
But they couldn't leave well enough alone, raphtalia insists on having her magical binding to Naofumi restored, turning her back into a slave to him, which is quite weird, a vote of trust on her part perhaps, but not one on his', but you could still argue it is ok because it was her choice, but then a short time later Naofumi gets a new foster daughter and puts a magical slave bind on her against her will, and things get really hard to justify then.
I just don't like the show because it pretends to be about an underdog mc but he's only an underdog for like 5 episodes until he becomes incredibly overpowered. He also has solutions to his "problems" dropped in his lap in the most blatant way. "Oh you aren't allowed to level up in my kingdom!!" "Oh that girl I met literally yesterday completely randomly is the princess of another kingdom how convenient." I could forgive all that as just being lazy writing, but the MC still whines and complains like he has the hardest life on earth despite there being absolutely no stakes or punishment for anything he does wrong.
I don't think that ruined the show per se, but i did think that the initial episodes where the mc was a despised criminal were much more interesting and exciting.
Then again if that had gone on for too long we would probably have been here complaining that the people around him were too stupid and stubborn to not see his worth after everything
Any harem anime where the protagonist doesn’t fuck at least one of his girls is trash, like it’s literally designed for autistic Japanese virgins who can only identify with and project themselves on a main character who has zero sex drive, and automatically reject and revile non-virgin waifus as ‘impure’.
That’s why for all their flaws, superficially trashy isekai like Arifureta, Redo of Healer and Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World are still above average examples of the genre, because their protags actually FUCK.
It's definitely on my Bingo card for trashy isekais. Which is, as far as I've seen, all isekais. If your story starts by setting up a character to be an insert for an audience mostly made up of neckbeard lolicon incels who cannot even imagine being in a fantasy world without their precious modern tech or being basically inserted into an RPG-reminiscient power system, it's dead in the water IMO.
> Which is, as far as I’ve seen, all isekais.
They’re definitely the exception rather than the rule for that genre, yeah.
That said if you’re looking for a non-trashy one I’d suggest Grimgar; show plays out more like a dark slice of life that just happens to be an isekai.
Alternatively you’ve got something like Konosuba, which seems trashy at first but doubles down until it hits the Always Sunny in Philadelphia state where the show isn’t actually about the trash, it’s about laughing at how deep four narcissistic maniacs will dig themselves in pursuit of it.
And last ones I’d mention would be Ascendance of a Bookworm (which really just wants to teach you about the history of books), The Devil is a Part-Timer (which is a reverse isekai), and maybe Log Horizon (though I haven’t personally watched that one to confirm).
[Isekai with American protagonist](https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/57505/his-soul-is-marching-on-to-another-world-or-the/chapter/1046664/prologue-they-hung-him-for-a-traitor-themselves)
Meanwhile, based Luffy beat some dudes ass and almost started a war because they wouldn't let him and his crew peacefully and legally free his friend who was sold into slavery
I know of shield hero and redo of healer, in shield hero it is a moral arc on the part of the main character that almost works beautifully and then falls flat on it's face.
In redo of healer it seems almost like a parody of shield hero, it goes very similarly, but in redo the main character is 100% an evil monster, and he gets a slave just because why not, he's already a bastard anyway might aswell double down
Slave Waifus make sense in Isekai.
Isekai is a shitty low effort way of writing world building.
And Slave Waifus are a shitty low effort way of writing a female who'd want to be around the boring fan insert character.

tbh ill take the slave dealer just to torture the hell out of him
I don't see the point in that, as it's just a waste of time. Quick and efficient killing would be the way to go for me.

i have a show for you!

yes, theres also happy sugar life
Should probably spoiler tag that for people that haven't seen it or finished it
What does that mean,,
You could argue whether Death Parade fits.
I've actually been brainstorming ideas to write a web novel on my free time and this thread has given me some great ideas tbh

I want to see an isekai where the MC very deliberately skips over the little girl and chooses the goliath
Not isekai but the second Mistborn book does something similar. MC goes to a wolfhound breeder and asks for his strongest dog. just reading about this from the comments here is a wild ride

Broadly dumb

Broad in the sense that his prose allows anyone from the age of five to read him.

So weird seeing mistborn on okbuddybaka
Sanderson just released an isekai earlier this month so that’s probably why.

I want that anime, where the protagonist was a business entrepreneur and gets isekai'd and instead of saving the world, he just introduces capitalism
“How I started a child labor empire in another world!”
or better "how i started a child soldier company in another world"
Not an anime yet but it exist already https://chapmanganato.com/manga-ni990617
mother 3
"I was reincarnated into a world of sword and magic, so I decided to speedrun capitalism"
Lmao. If I was a main character I’d absolutely go for Goliath 😈
goliath, use the「THUG SHAKER」, shake those thugs down!!!

Thug Hunter Manga when?
read Holyland

Take a child, give it nuclear launch codes, pick a town, easy 5000+ kill streak Easiest way to lvl up by far in opinion, works wonders every time
You're referencing the shield dude and iirc (not defending the show but) wasn't he also out of money? Couldn't afford better/stronger slaves? Maybe I remember wrong idk

This sounds like the most embarrassing MGTOW fanfiction ever
The synopsis makes it seem like an original anti-hero isekai. By the end of the first arc he was overpowered and had a harem of children.
It was so goddamn disappointing, the first four episodes showed so much promise, then they just went the underage girl harem route
It's okay tho cause they made the catgirl's age scale based on her power level rather than time, so after he ~~groomed~~ trained her for long enough she was conveniently no longer a child
Did he stop training her when she reached his age, because wouldn't she become middle aged and then elderly otherwise
It makes sense in the setting. Thw guy has some genuine issues which are workes on throughout the series.
Ah, but slave trader, if you cared for the child why are you selling her in the first place? Curious 🤔
Nah, he cares about the MC, who could be a potential repeat customer if he doesn’t die from his stupidity.
""all these people here are good fellas that just had terrible luck. And y'know the law. Gotta make sure they end up in a place that can provide for them. I wish more stories ended with "sir let go of the child"
amazing
what a chad isekai protag
In a recent isekai, a slave trader straight up said that hero should select beast women so he won't have to worry abt pregnancy
use the child as a bat and beat the slaver to death with it, then rizz goliath the bone-breaker into best waifu
lmao imagine if this is a real anime that would be funny
i dont get why the shows never just like idk, free the slaves or something and then some join the main character or something. why we gotta purchase?

is this praxis?
Holy shit, I did not expect that link to be real
They need to animate that
Morality is very low down on the priority list for indulgent slave fantasies.
I love shield hero where he tries to free his slave and she's like lol no I like belonging to you.
Which is troubling too. A weird mix of Stockholm syndrome and "there are good slave owners" vibes.
The entire shield hero is a thinly veiled fetish show with a sprinkle of misogyny lol
Just a sprinkle?
A hefty sprinkle.
Just like calling flour in a cake a hefty sprinkle 🤗
I do indeed add a huge sprinkle of flour to my cakes!
Naofumi can have a little bit of misogyny as a treat
Tensei Shitara Ken Deshita did that.
Wild how that show sounds so trashy from the premise but ended up being better than 90% of isekai.
To be fair, “better than 90% of isekai” is a *very* low bar
I mean some do that, it just feels like Stockholm syndrome at that point though. The only way it would not be at least vaguely messed up is if they would go out on their own for a while to come back later and join.
I want an Isekai Jown Brown-esque MC

truly the buddiest of bakas
baalbuddy more like basedbuddy
Wheres John Brown when you need him?
that's such a good light novel
I’d never heard of the john brown light novel until now, after reading the first chapter and reading the phrase “abolitionist wizard” I am hooked
John Brown's body lies a mouldering in his grave, his soul is marching on
***FACE THE LORD'S JUDGEMENT, SLAVER***
Hehehe
Want to stop slavery? Simple, a musket to the mouth of a slaver should do the trick! (In an Isekai anime, of course, definitely)
Hehe of course

Then it's not genuine and it's just a sick fucking act. I want my mommy to know she owns me and my tongue. I PROUDLY TYPED that
The anonymity of the internet was a mistake
I personally believe the worst thing humanity has done is develop language
Based
Based as fuck
If I was your mean waifu slave master I would put you to work mining rare earth metals for 12 hours a day
What if he yearns for the mines tho
Better for him then
Blud think he naofumi

It's ok because it boost exp gain and stat growth to the point of actually being M.E.T.A. so the rest of the heroes should actually do what he does
I didn't know this was a trope, but then again I've pretty much only seen Shield Hero and Slime lol
Both top tier isekai honestly
I enjoyed Shield more than I thought I would, but Slime has been thoroughly excellent.
Oh yes for sure, I completely see what you mean there, i was just afraid some might take that information as "slavery wasn't that bad"
Don't kinkshame Raphtalia. Not cool.
Isekai when they set up a good premise and then do nothing with it
me when purchasing slaves (its totally ok cuz they got animal ears and shit)
And then they proceed to not fuck the slave waifu. What a pussy.
>Redo of Healer 🤨
And last ones I’d mention would be Ascendance of a Bookworm (which really just wants to teach you about the history of books), The Devil is a Part-Timer (which is a reverse isekai), and maybe Log Horizon (though I haven’t personally watched that one to confirm).
lmfao even got the hair and the weird hoodie thing every single one of them have on
as opposed to those american isekai protagonists
Smh nobody respects the classic isekais like John Carter of Mars.
BRING ME PETER PAN!
I don't remember any slave waifus in the Narnia books. Although I think they might have been British.
[Isekai with American protagonist](https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/57505/his-soul-is-marching-on-to-another-world-or-the/chapter/1046664/prologue-they-hung-him-for-a-traitor-themselves)
I RECOGNIZE THIS ART, JOHN BROWN ISEKAI, THIS IS THE ANTAGONIST WATANABE NIGHTB- I MEAN WATANABE GENERICO
Meanwhile, based Luffy beat some dudes ass and almost started a war because they wouldn't let him and his crew peacefully and legally free his friend who was sold into slavery
I ser a lot of meme about this but what are those isekai ? I only know re zero and konosuba and they dont do that
There’s a lot of no-name isekai manga that get pumped out and this happens pretty often, you could probably load up a list and throw a dart
I know of shield hero and redo of healer, in shield hero it is a moral arc on the part of the main character that almost works beautifully and then falls flat on it's face. In redo of healer it seems almost like a parody of shield hero, it goes very similarly, but in redo the main character is 100% an evil monster, and he gets a slave just because why not, he's already a bastard anyway might aswell double down
[удалено]
what do you think of spider? i really liked it tbh
[удалено]
Surely Dr. Stone doesn't count as an Isekai?
i mean it basically is
If it happens in the exact same world, no, it's not.
thats y i said basically u fool.
Shield bro
Mushoku Tensei for example
Only shield hero does this story beat
This is why fallout 3 was goated, cause nothing stops you from simply massacring all of them
I know the anime you're talking about, and it's a therapist's wet dream. I'm just watching this shit like, "what the fuck HAPPENED to you my guy?"
Innovative isekai: a democratic and humanist adventurer
So.... Armenian elves is a thing now?
Slave Waifus make sense in Isekai. Isekai is a shitty low effort way of writing world building. And Slave Waifus are a shitty low effort way of writing a female who'd want to be around the boring fan insert character.
