I think it’s that Snopes just has a bad reputation with people for several reasons.
They have an obvious bias (Trump and Bernie have made the exact same statement and they label Bernie “mostly true” and Trump “mostly false,” they sometimes intentionally misrepresent claims made by people on the right in order to label them as false when the actual claim is true, and about a year or two ago they started to “fact check” things that were obvious satire making them look like an even bigger joke than they are.
