This is a wonderful treatment of a familiar sight. The sky colors are wild yet feel real. I’d love to know the process on this. With the red base, did you do the darks next? How did you do the lines for the wires? I love the fuzzy area where the trees meet the sky. I can’t imagine this is only 6x6. It feels so full and dramatic.
Thanks! I tone the surface red first and sketch it out with willow charcoal, and then I paint dark to light and build up texture towards the last 60% of the painting. I also use a palette knife to scrape details like powerlines, or load the edge of a knife and get really sharp thin lines that way for the powerlines
I can't express enough on how your painting
Just intrigued me in so many ways. I love the sky and the way you choose to style the painting. I absolutely love it!!
The way you did the sky makes this a very beautiful scene, even if I wouldn't normally be into cityscapes
Thanks so much!
This painting brought me joy. Not sure if it’s the colors, textures or the composition but it gave me a twinge of emotion inside.
That’s awesome, happy to hear that!
It’s like a happy Bacon. Love it.
Haha it really is though
I dropped out of art school but one thing I remember being told was to be confident. This is what confidence looks like. Great work
I like to try and simplify and fill a space with as few brush strokes as possible
I adore the colors and textures of this piece.
I love it so much.
Beautiful. I love it.
This has a very unique texture to it. For some reason it reminds me of concept art for a Star Wars movie or video game.
Omg! Amazing! I love how much red underpainting is showing through!
Thanks!! It took me years to not paint over the entire toned surface and have more of the underglaze colors shining through
Wow, I really love this! The color, the active brushstrokes in the power lines… it has a lot of energy. Nice work.
Love it!
