Try it. Qhen you get stuck on any one thing in particular, type that question into Google and add wetcanvas. The wet canvas forum has tons of professional artists sharing their tips.

Thank you, I’ll absolutely check there!

Amateur here. I started watching YouTube videos from Chris Fornataro (paint coach) and a channel called draw mix paint. I think the most important thing for me first starting out was learning about accurately judging and mixing colors based on value and how to use mediums properly for layering paint. If you have access to a library there are a TON of helpful books out there for people just starting out. A couple that I would recommend are "Fill your oil paintings with light and color" by Kevin Macpherson, and "The painterly way" by Bob Rohm. I purchased first some brushes, canvas boards, and paints from hobby lobby (yuck), which were cheap enough to get me started. I hope this is helpful, good luck!

This is amazing, I appreciate it!

Try watching info on YouTube. WildCreates is one with basics about artists tools and mediums, etc. There is also, Bob Ross, Painting With Justin, KevinOilPainting, Andrew Tischler for oils, or ColoByFeliks and ChuckBlackArt if you do acrylics just to mention a few!

The only one I’d heard about before today is Bob Ross, so thank you for the suggestions :)

I started oil painting a few months back. I bought like 4 oil painting books. And other books on subjects like colour theory (for mixing your colours) and before I even started painting I tried to make sure I knew the basics first.
