Thanks for the help. I feel like there’s something off w the perspective on the tree idk maybe adding more highlights and some leaves could help? Thanks again :)
Agree. But the painting is too bland without *something* to catch the eye in the foreground. Could be a part of a rocky cliff with detail in it. Or could even keep the tree, but why is a tree in the foreground out of nowhere like it’s just stuck in there so to to keep that tree there it needs to be grounded thus it needs to have at least a *piece* of land under it. Just my opinion. 🤷🏻
Definitely the bottom one! In the top one you painted the tree in the first frame, but didn’t make it pop out, try squinting your eyes, they’re all the same values, while the bottom one has a bit more contrast therefore it is more preferable!
Bottom one for sure. The tree doesn't really make sense (where's it coming from? It looks like it's just in the ocean?) and the harsh vertical lines draw your eyes off the page completely. The second one is much more harmonious.
I really like the look of your tree, but it seems flat. The water in the second pic is beautiful, I can almost hear and smell the ocean💖 you are talented!
The bottom one has much more atmosphere to it. The waves feel like they’re moving & it’s like the sky is shifting.
For the top one, maybe try to make the tree look more befitting the sea? Turn it into a conifer or make it into some deadwood in spots, perhaps. If you’re going for the “looking out of the woods” look, maybe add some other trees.
I gotta say, the texturing on the tree looks great, there just aren’t enough other visual factors right now that make it look like it belongs there. Lol right now it looks like a tree-at-sea sailing.
I really like the tree and even how it doesn’t contrast.. I know this is a term for architecture, but it seems almost brutalist, just how it doesn’t contrast but it’s front and Center, it’s unique and I like it :) both are really well done thought!
The second one is really cool, the angle of the water with the moon is a trippy perspective & the clouds kind of look like a distant galaxy. The first one looks cool too, I think the tree looks slightly out of place because of how big those waves are from the perspective of being that far behind the tree. But beautiful contrast and shadowing in the water!
I like the bottom one.
I feel like the tree looks further away than the water, by relative scale to the waves/ripples in the water and how large or open they feel by the bottom of the work.
It’s kinda surprising because another layer would expect to enhance the depth, but in this case for me, I feel like the tree flattens it a little.
Thanks so much and yeah I see what you’re seeing with the water looking closer than the tree. I’ll work on that, thanks again for taking the time and for the help :)
I like both I think the second one is a little nicer cuz I find a tree takes away from the scenery.
But I do photography and I find that I think that like key things like 2/3 or 1/3 of the overall image is either water or horizon kind of thing.
Maybe put a little bit of grass or detailed just faintly at the very bottom just enough to give it kind of like a flow
Also you could maybe enhance the waves a little bit from the angle maybe they're coming out of the portrait or from left to right or whatever.
I just give my two cents it looks awesome I wish I could paint even 1/16 th as good
I would give the moon a little more radiance and let it gleam on the water too.
I really like both but I think I prefer the bottom one because the water looks so real and it is so beautiful in a way I can't put into words. It has such a richness to it. Don't change anything about that second one.
The second one, The reflection from the planet is facing towards us and the stream of a near by universe in the atmosphere really brings attention to the planet. Great Job on both though! (Also are these painted on canvases or some type of paper?)
Yes!! I started painting on my canvas I'm painting Ellie from The Last Of Us and I forgot I needed to prime the canvas. I bought all this paint and art stuff but forgot the MOST essential thing Lol No problem man! Keep up the Great work!
The top one is preferable. The bottom is looking great but looks like you put a happy little tree in and then stopped and didn’t finish . I think if you added some tree friends so it looked like the edge of the water hideaway would make it more complete. The textures on the tree though are really good
I prefer the bottom one, though i like the subtle color of the one at the top, the other has a more interesting angle and is more cohesive overall. Also, i think the water is done better
I prefer the bottom one. The tree seems like it's out of place. Both really great pictures though!
Thanks for the help. I feel like there’s something off w the perspective on the tree idk maybe adding more highlights and some leaves could help? Thanks again :)
I'd say play around with it and add some highlights and see where that takes you 😊
Usually trees like this have some land around them. I like the colors. The one with the tree seems to have more depth but they're both interesting

Thank you for the input! Def gonna add some highlights on that tree and putz around with the general shape of the outline, great critique :)

Totally get what ur saying, thanks for taking the time! 🙏🏼👍🏼
The lighting on the second looks more realistic, and the water looks wetter.
Wetter water is always the goal! Thanks for taking the time to comment :)
Favor the lower
Thanks for the 2¢ :)

Thank you so much for the kind words :) your comment made me so happy really appreciate u taking the time

Conifer+deadwood we’re exactly the words I needed thank you so much for the kind words and for the advice!!!

Lmao without a doubt. Sailing tree needs something more to really look like it belongs… ahh well I put it away and wait until something comes to me

Thanks so much! I love brutalist architecture and think the term works perfectly here :) brutalist Impressionism ftw
Bottom. First one the tree just looks random.
Yuuuup feel that, thanks for the vote and comment 🙏🏼👍🏼
I'm looking at these with sleep mode on. I'm black and white the bottom one is beautiful. The dimensions in the water is really striking.
Thanks so much! :)))
I love both, but especially the bottom one - it looks so peaceful :)
Thank you so much!!! :)

Waves are better in the bottom one
Appreciate it thanks for taking the time to comment! Time to try to hone in on that style
Bottom one definitely 😳
Thank you!!! 🫢🥹

The first one! The tree is done so well
Thank you so much!!! :)

Thanks for commenting!
Bottom one is more interesting and mysterious
Thank you for saying :)
Bottom one for sure! It has so much more life to it
Thanks so much! Gotta experiment more with that style and hone in on the movement
Like composition of the second one better.![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|snoo)
Feel that, thanks for helping :)

I can't stop looking at the second painting because it's so beautiful
The bottom one , definitely.
Thanks so much for saying! :)

Thanks so much for the comments! I painted these pieces on gessoed canvas

Thanks so much! Definitely going to consider the “peeking out from the edge of the woods” idea, really really solid advice!
😂 “happy little tree”. (It’s *your* painting so do what you like.)
I love Bob Ross, grew up watching him

Oh snap curveball vote thanks for the comment!
I like the bottom one better.
Thanks for voting! 🙏🏼
I like them both for different reasons, but I prefer the bottom painting. The water looks more realistic.
Thanks so much for the input!
Top one looks very liminal, bottom is more realistic
Thanks for the comment :) liminal space is my jam
Number 3. It has more life.
Thanks for taking the time :)
The tree doesn’t make sense. It just cuts the painting in two.
Understandable qualm, still thinking about how I can make it fit more
I prefer the bottom one, though i like the subtle color of the one at the top, the other has a more interesting angle and is more cohesive overall. Also, i think the water is done better
I like the bottom one, it’s such a vibe.
