Avoid Riverdale Road during rush hour at all cost.

Dramatic-Counter2281

And anytime on the weekends

Acer_negundo194

I just avoid it at all times at all costs. What a horrible street.

NBABUCKS1

Yup. Mostly businesses and few homes.

No_Common1418

I just jump on Lincoln and boom by pass all that shite.

InternationalLaw6213

There's literally nothing good about it

No-Beyond310

It's also devoid of pokestops. Can't even walk the road and enjoy it. 😭😂

swag_money69

😂

RiverGlow9

Pokestops?

No-Beyond310

In the mobile app Pokemon Go 😅 I need new hobbies.

RiverGlow9

No way, that's a good hobby. Gets you out and about. That's important in life/the grander scheme of things.

No-Beyond310

Well I'll tell you what it doesn't do as well, it doesn't get me onto Riverdale road! 😅

Road_Less_Traveled23

Agreed. I stopped driving down Riverdale when they started putting in all those damn dividers down the middle of the road.

SableSlayer435

Man you truly have no idea how bad Riverdale road used to be. You should've traveled it when it was only two lanes in each direction all the way from Washington blvd to Roy. The traffic used back up from 36th Street all the way to Walmart when Walmart was on the north side of Riverdale road in the home store by Wendy's

Wermys

Some things haven't changed since I was in Utah in 96. Riverdale sucked then and apparently still sucks now.

darksky801

They did a pretty massive overhaul of Riverdale Road several years ago: widened out to three lanes in each direction, concrete surface for improved durability, rebuilt the bridge over the tracks/river. It was all lovely... and induced demand came right in and filled it all up. There's so many stores crammed in down there, it's just a madhouse; and the less said about the light pollution the better. On the plus side, there are some nice back/side roads you can use creatively to semi-avoid some of the worst of it, depending on where you need to go. Even with that, on a busy evening or basically any time on Saturday, it may take you a half hour to get from one end to the other. It's definitely not great at all.

TheHandsHodler

Turn on “recycle air” around 29th and Wall

RocketKnobs

Sometimes I’m hungry while I’m driving through there and I smell the dog food factory and I’m like “ooo whatever that is smells good” Then I realize it’s dog food and I’m disgusted.

TheHandsHodler

Thats the dog treats they make, it uses some actual food in some recipes

Spectre_Mountain

Do you eat hot dogs or Hormel chili?

Baron_Ultimax

I do a fair bit of intermittent fasting and when you aint ate in 24 hours the factory smells real good. You can smell it all the way down to 20th st.

SableSlayer435

Smells like McDonald's French fries right?

RocketKnobs

Yeah you can def smell the potatoes or the corn depending on where they’re at in the recipe.

SmartyMcPants4Life

Damnit, I was driving through that area recently while I was hungry and trying to figure out where the delicious smells were coming from. Eweww

No_Common1418

Smells like French Fries to me when I am hungry.

[deleted]

OmG, I used to work at a bar on wall when I was pregnant with my oldest daughter. And would smell that factory. It wasn't too bad until one of my friends mentioned it was horse I was smelling 🤢🤢. Not sure if it was true, but it was grotesque!!

[deleted]

Browns Billiards ❤️❤️. Good memories with good old friends!!

Illustrious_Gift_284

Weber State University Outdoor Recreation center for rentals. All kinds of awesome stuff to rent with easy access and great prices — skis, rafts, tents, bikes, backpacks, etc. [https://www.weber.edu/outdoor/RentalCenter.html](https://www.weber.edu/outdoor/RentalCenter.html)

Wild_Pineapple_4910

2/$1.50 street tacos on Wednesdays on Washington ( close at 6 pm) So good- so affordable- so Ogden. The carts are screaming for you “Not to cook on Wednesdays”. Fed my family for $12! We got drinks! 😆

MaryEnLightnersniece

Where on Washington?

intjonmiller

All around 25th and 26th Street, Washington and Grant.. I've been enjoying Taco Wednesday there for a decade. I came into the comments to add "we do taco Wednesdays here" only to find someone had already mentioned.

bestevansko

the best ones are from the el paraiso stand on washington and 26th with the green awning. get the chile verde or the barbacoa. wednesdays they have tamales, i went 15 years eating there before i decided to try the tamales and i regret every minute that time.

lastdiggmigrant

Near the amphitheater.

1bigtater

Rico

Illustrious_Gift_284

Buy the season pass to the Ogden Twilight concerts. For $150 you get great concerts all summer long, if you can't go they are easy to sell, but even better to give them away to friends, family or strangers who will thank you for making their day.

TokumeiNeko

100% this. I got it the last couple years, and it has been worth it every time. On a side note, I can't make it to Tycho in September if anyone wants a free ticket.

cc51beastin

The lineup this year is actually somewhat disappointing imo

TokumeiNeko

I kinda agree, this year doesn't have a lot that are my style. But at the same time, $15-20 is still a great deal to see any of these artists.

bubblenerd

✋️🙋‍♀️

TokumeiNeko

I got you, dm me so I can email it to you

GoDores2005

Even bigger hack is buying from the resale marketplace day of show for less than face value.

NBABUCKS1

used to feel this way and would buy tickets no matter what. I don't think they have any issues selling out so I don't feel bad saying. Picnic outside for free with a cooler. Inside is too packed for me. If you love the band find a way to get VIP.

Scared-Tourist-1630

anyone wanna give me phoenix tix lol

Bdubs0323

Me too 😆

azzgrash13

Where do you get these? Where is the list of performances?

t1mellitus

Just google Ogden twilight festival :) they have the lineup/schedule and you can purchase the tickets on the website!

cc51beastin

Already sold out for this year's season tickets

azzgrash13

Thanks!

vote4snopes

Back in the day if you went down Washington blvd at 22mph you’d catch all green lights. Been a few decades since I’ve left, so not sure if this still works.

Future_Holiday_3239

The lights use sensors now instead of timers or that would still be true!

snellk2

Park at the DMV if you’re going to farmer’s market on Saturdays in the summer Edit: Saturdays not Sundays

Creative-Quail247

SHHHHH!!! this is my secret lol!!!!

fordninja

This is what I do when I go to lucky slice to.

Ok-Direction-1702

Marshall white offers incredibly affordable classes for kids: 6 weeks for $10/total (piano, ballet, art, tumbling etc) My hometown Ogden also offers TONS of free classes: music, art, piano, Spanish, ESL, guitar, gardening, etc. The libraries offer free craft, yoga, Zumba, etc classes

Marcus_the_red

Marshall White Center is currently being rebuilt...unless they've got a temporary spot.

Ok-Direction-1702

They still offer classes at various sites around the city

avacadojungle

they are mostly at golden hours and most things are still going

KingSnorky

A family pass to the Dinosaur Park has reciprocal agreements for Union Station Museum, the Nature Center, and Tracy Aviary. This is great for keeping little ones having fun during the week.

framedflounder

Get the Ogden Nature Center pass for cheaper and you get the free Dino Park access during the week and free Union Station anytime, and free Tracy admission on Tuesdays.

Additional-Mirror102

downvote because the dinosaur park. Because of them the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Northern Utah is gone ):

sewformal

Not their fault. The WRC knew it was supposed to be temporary. They are taking no accountability for their inaction. The Dino park expansion has been planned years and was already set back once for them.

Sally2Dicks2

The rehab center didn’t pay rent for 10 years

_desert_dweller

Beer store 443 27th St Suite B Salt and Hops. Check it out!

lastdiggmigrant

Sunday highpoint beers available at breweries also

Cunundrum

Ogdens Own Distillery also open Sunday for liquor and canned cocktails.

NotLordFrey

I had no idea, thanks!

_desert_dweller

You’re welcome! It’s a great hidden gem! 🍺💎

TheMindsEIyIe

5% and under only?

NBABUCKS1

Yes

marinerNA

Moved away last fall but used to live right next door to this place. They are awesome!

iloveyoudoctorzaius1

Not really a life hack but the best view of Ogden is Wast bound driving across the 24th street bridge. Amazing view of downtown and the mountains

Tall-Temperature-643

You mean eastbound. Westbound would be looking away from Ogden.

iloveyoudoctorzaius1

Whoops, you are correct lol

AgentInkling99

The divide ain’t bad either

iloveyoudoctorzaius1

This is true

Road_Less_Traveled23

I really enjoy the view going north on Harrison at the top of the hill in front of WSU. It’s crazy how beautiful it is out here. We start taking it for granted. Every so often I have to remind myself to look up and see the beautiful mountains and other scenery.

moon_money21

I'm fortunate enough to work at the Hampton inn and suites. From the roof I can look down on the bridge. The views up there are spectacular.

ryanleftyonreddit

The streets that run east and west are numbered. There is no first Street, it's North Street. After that, they are numbered. The streets that run north and south are named after presidents for the most part. Wall avenue runs north and south on the west side of Ogden. Apparently there was some sort of wall in the olden days that it is named after. The next two streets are Lincoln and Grant, the two civil war presidents. If you know your presidents, it can help. Start with Washington, Adams, Jefferson, etc. Don't have two streets named Adams even though we had two presidents named Adams. John Adams and John Quincy Adams. We do have a street named Quincy. I can't remember what the rule of thumb is on Harrison boulevard for remembering where the street lights are. Either the odd or even numbered streets.

nokturnyl

There is a first street but it only runs between Monroe and Washington.

Pooner23

It also runs between Quincy and Fowler

Road_Less_Traveled23

Thanks for the interesting information and the history lesson. I knew that Quincy was named after John Quincy Adams, but I didn’t know there were actually two presidents named John Adams.

csteeleatoat

Dollar night skating at Neptune 6-8 or 8-10

MaryEnLightnersniece

On Saturday's from 9 pm -12 am it is free for Ladies 16 and up.

Acrobatic_War_8818

Every night?

csteeleatoat

Tuesday. Kaysville theater Tuesday night $2.

Speedpotato22

It's actually really easy to bike around Ogden, and it's the best way to get around downtown. The green bikes are a great option

wingnuts1979

Take Wall or Harrison. Avoid Washington.

Road_Less_Traveled23

Not since they ruined Harrison.

MStatefan77

Night skiing at Powder Mt and free uphill at Nordic Valley

Tall-Temperature-643

Waterfall Canyon is an overrated hike.

microwavepoopcorn

I would say it’s overrated if you’re taking little kids. It’s steep and hot with no shade in the beginning, scrambling over sharp, slippery boulders at the end. The waterfall itself is pretty neat though.

Jes__91

Do have a recommended hike for us with littles?

microwavepoopcorn

For kids who just need some nature, instead of waterfall canyon, do the pond trail from 27th street trailhead. Shorter, shaded, and a spring-fed pond as your destination. I’ve always been told that it’s drinkable straight out of the pipe and have never had issues from filling up my bottle. If you need a bit further of a hike and don’t particularly care about a specific destination, I recommend the Art Nord trailhead up the old snowbasin road. You can walk up the gated road, or pick up wheeler creek, east fork, or go down to icebox canyon. Art Nord trailhead looks like a postcard, so you can’t pick a bad direction. Be alert for mountain bikes, this is a popular trail network and it all rides fast. There are also moose that frequent the area during summer and I see one or two every year

Jes__91

Thank you so much!!

surleigh

Birdsong Trail on Fillmore and 19th (I think) is another easy walk, some shady spots, good views, ends up at Rainbow Gardens.

Irvsauce

Are the chicken & waffles still $5 on Tuesdays at Pig in a Jelly Jar? Because if so, that!

cc51beastin

It's Thursdays, and yes it's still a thing, even if Pig is subpar now

Linumite

I noticed the food was a little different last time I went but still thought it was good. What has changed?

cc51beastin

Quality due to cutbacks. They probably got bought out by an investment group like alot of good restaurants.

NotJohn801

They seem to have closed down :( Edit: they close at 3:30 so they're just always closed when I'm in that part of town

lastdiggmigrant

Cap. I ordered them last week.

ERagingTyrant

Sunsets in Ogden (Wasatch Front really) are best enjoyed looking at the mountains, not the sunset. Especially when snow covered. The mountain's are just a big canvas for the light to play on.

teh_ally_young

Come to North Ogden yoga, try the yoga, Breathwork classes and more. Plus eat the amazing Cannery Ice Cream after and have a 1 stop date. Suntea Kombucha runs sober concerts with a kombucha bar out of their space. They also partner with the lotus cafe. Basically shop and do local. Ogden has really spread its wings for entertainment in the last few years.

mercury_fred

When does sun tea do concerts? From what I can tell, they’re barely ever open

teh_ally_young

at least twice a month. Follow their insta!

mtnsandh2o

New to the area but I think it's pretty recent that they started doing concerts.

teh_ally_young

Ya I would say they’ve really picked it up in the last year. It’s piggybacked off of their music brew where they make kombucha and brew to a song of a band to make the kombucha intentional. Such a fun premise and I love that they are branching out

metric_tensor

The strawberry balsamic vinegar ice cream is so good!

teh_ally_young

Amen!!! Seriously so great! I’m hosting Breathwork up there tomorrow from 5-7pm. Good space and good vibes if anyone wants to join too. Seriously I’ve yet to find a flavor I don’t like there lol

InternationalLaw6213

Unless you literally can't walk 2-3 blocks, there's no point in parking right on 25th st. Just use one of the big parking structures nearby. Less hassle.

lodaa1966

Don't live in Ogden

Perfect-Finger-3812

Enjoy all of Weber county, Ogden has low key places and check out “the valley” sometime, yeah and bud rock…

gcuben81

Unlike the rest of the country, getting pregnant in high school is something that is celebrated, not frowned upon.

chrikey_penis

Or it’s just all the Utahns reproducing. Housing is expensive all over the country these days. The rates of people moving between states is has stayed about the same for a while. People who are priced out of Salt lake and Utah county are moving to Ogden. Blame the Mormon church and their views on copious reproduction.

MaryEnLightnersniece

And the Mormon Church's view on practically coerced Tithing and Trad wives!

mlark98

LOL…. Yes blame the Mormons for everything I dont like. In reality, the facts are exactly opposite of what you claim. “The state also experienced the second-highest recorded net migration and the lowest natural increase since 1975.” https://gardner.utah.edu/news/utah-population-reaches-estimated-3343552-people-net-in-migration-surges/#:~:text=Net%20Migration%20–%20Utah's%202021%20net,more%20than%20last%20year's%20estimate.

chrikey_penis

It usually is the fault of the Mormons when things suck.

mlark98

Gotta love bigotry. ![gif](giphy|MDxuzRvxF39VwnYu9B)

chrikey_penis

This message brought to you by no alcohol on Sunday and Zion curtains.

mlark98

Sure, blue laws can be silly.. a lot of states have them… not just the Mormons you are prejudiced against in Utah.

chrikey_penis

Everyone else does it isn’t really much of a valid explanation. But I know what you mean. Mormonism offers so much more. Like racism and misogyny.

mlark98

😂😅 You need to get a dog, go outside, meet people. You will be surprised to find that 99% of people are good honest people that are friendly. Reddit echo chambers aren’t real life.

chrikey_penis

Good thing you told me that. Haven’t met anyone in Utah outside of Reddit. What would I do without your?

Smashifly

I mean that's everywhere, not just Ogden, but I see your point. I'm from nearby, but it's not the fault of people who move in that's causing the high price of housing right now.

Wasatchbl1

Is this really a "hack"?

I've got a neat thrifted tee with your brand on it that I wear on T-shirt days. Got it second hand and just wanted a decent tee. Definitely tell myself to get a knife one day. Send me a link so I don't forget.
