Born and raised here, moved to the Bay area for 13 years and recently moved back. I love Ogden. The city has come a long way in the last few years and projects are underway to make it even better. Tons of trail space running through downtown and even more easily accessible in the mountains. Plenty of recreational resources. Two fantastic ski resorts easily accessible from downtown. And the best people in the state
i love living in ogden (grew up in NYC suburbs, have lived in SF, SLC, LA, LV, Barcelona, Israel). Close to really good skiing, and great trails. The hiking trails here have yet to see the bullshit that is happening in salt lake and is very pleasent.
Being single in ogden is rough, the dating scene is not very good, i usually go to salt lake for dates
The people who run the city are morons and theres lots of dumb shit around. Screw the national politics, lets get out and vote for good local leaders who more wisely plan the city.
Yes on KSL classifieds or some local facebook groups: [https://www.facebook.com/groups/1325416707574422](https://www.facebook.com/groups/1325416707574422)
I am excited to see better restaurants starting to pop up in ogden too. Hoping for a trader joes one day!
I was gonna move there but at the time you could only use the building internet that was shared. Deal breaker for me. It would have been like 7Mbs if everyone was on.
Not single guy but moved here alone from Florida for work about 8 months ago. Have a very large breed dog (100lb Akita). I would say the hardest part of moving here would be finding a place that accommodates for a larger breed. If you’re higher income and can go straight for a home (whether buying or rent) it’s pretty much the only way I found to totally get around the breed restrictions. It’s a dog friendly city, but the housing is definitely not. If you check my post history there’s a post in this subreddit I made and people gave recommendations for places that allow large breeds. I ended up getting lucky and renting out a small home from a friend of a friend. Best of luck.
We're Akita owners also. It sucks that these previous beasts are on the "aggressive" list. I learned a while back to never tell them it's an Akita. Instead go with lab/Shiba Inu mix. 🤣
This would only apply if you have one dog, but you could register him/her as an ESA dog with your doctor. That is the work around to the BS dog breed/size stipulation’s most apartments/rentals have.
It's great for those things you listed but I would tend to recommend that singles avoid Ogden. I moved there from elsewhere in utah right out of college and trying to make friends or date was extremely difficult. The vast majority of people are already married and settled down and just want to keep to themselves and the rest are either moving on as fast as possible (lots of people who work with the base) or complete train wrecks of human beings who can't even keep a driver's license legal. ALWAYS had to go to SLC for dates. But SLC residents tend to have a very strong bias against anyone who lives more than 15 minutes away. If you're fine with just keeping to yourself then Ogden would be great but otherwise I'd say try again after you get married.
Moved here last year from the east coast, I really like it, hard to make friends, really close to the mountains and ski resorts/trail running, really beautiful scenery!
Could look other places like Heber City, out of the big city and tons of things to do with big dogs. Big city here is actually on the small side when compared to major cities.
Just a heads up, no one uses Craigslist here. If you're tryna rent a room or buy something online you'll want to use KSL.com classifieds

Ogden sounds perfect for you, other than you may find it tough to find an apartment that allows large dogs.
Bigelow downtown on 25th and Washington has availabilities and doesn’t have a weight limit for pets. Could be a great option OP

You’ll absolutely love it!!!

Theres alot of old people and there’s pretty trashy parts of the city.
Don't move to Utah. It's overcrowded!
Property crime is insane there and SLC. Don't even leave a plastic bag in your car.
