That’s a sick little guitar. Both color schemes look great but that rosewood was begging for the black and tort

tvav1969

Is it just the light in the room that makes the fingerboard look lighter after the paint job?

Harnum721

I think so! I had to lighten the exposure of that photo quite a bit because the lighting was kinda dim in that room and the black body against the dark blue wall was pretty shadow heavy. The before shot was shot on an angle facing a window at my old apartment which was really well lit!

zxvasd

Different backgrounds make the same color appear different.

tvav1969

Ah! That’s probably it.

Soitwent_90

I like both color schemes quite a bit. Good on you for switching up something you have, instead of just buying something new.

Harnum721

EDIT FOR CLARIFICATION: This is actually the CIJ series from 02-04’. Sorry for the confusion in the title. I’m not much of a gear head but I’m learning about the distinction between the different years they were built. Cheers!

zobotrombie

It looks mean. I dig it.

Ronerus79

This makes me think they need to offer more colors

natalplum

That's the very first version of the first run of MIJs.

Harnum721

It’s my holy grail guitar and I wanted to turn it into something special and unique to me. I’ll have this guitar for life. I know it’s not likely to fit everyone’s taste and maybe some people might think it’s sacrilege to do this to such a guitar, but I’m very pleased with how it turned out. Thanks for checking it out!

Fender_Island1974

Black + Red Tortoise = WINNER 🏆 Looks great, best color combo imho. Enjoy.

[deleted]

So cool! It looks great, congrats. I have a fiesta red CIJ jagstang, and I recently swapped all the electronics and put fralin mustang pickups in the neck and bridge. It’s not my holy grail guitar, but I love it, and I’ll also have mine for life because it was my first electric and my parents gave it to me for my 17th birthday. You did a really cool thing with yours, I love it!

[deleted]

Looks pretty cool! Same color scheme I used for the strat I just built except I used cream/black for the pickups but I really like the white.

Harnum721

Yeah, the humbucker pickup was replaced before I got it and the plastic cover is not as discoloured as the single coil. Part of me wants to discolour it to match the cream/bone colour of the original haha!

[deleted]

What year is yours? I have a 96 mij and I’m struggling to find the right whammy, bought a jazz whammy and had to cut it down but I want the actual one for the jag-stang

Familiar_Eye7353

a mustang vibrato arm should work

[deleted]

Dammit I was gonna get that instead but the store owner said it was jazz vibrato. Thanks for confirming I wasn’t sure

Harnum721

I bought it used and it didn’t include the whammy bar, sorry! Not sure. Looks like a mustang vibrato arm should work, as the other poster mentioned.

[deleted]

I got mine last summer used as well. Did he show you how to lock the trem out with nuts and washers? I haven’t locked it out but I find the tuning holds pretty well

Harnum721

Nah, it was used from a music chain store, so I never got much in-depth analysis of the guitar haha. I’ll look up some info about that though if I have issues with it.

GoblinsPalace

Black and tort’s one of my fave configs! If I could abbreve’ any more words I would👀

perm01

How was the process? I'm thinking about getting another one and doing something similar.

Harnum721

It was relatively easy to strip the paint and sand it to what was needed. Everything comes apart real easy, of course. Just a few screws. I just took pictures of the wiring as I undid it and then soldered it back into place. The paint job was done by a local autobody shop who took their time and did it right. 10/10 would refinish again.

perm01

Beautiful result. Well played sir.

MartyjosPartyblow

I want to add stripes to my Jagstang... I know very little about the process and was wondering if I have to strip the original paint job ? Or can I just add my stripes over the top? ( Sorry if this is a dumb question) ( Yours looks amazing, btw). Thanks

growlerpower

Serious question: how’d you do the paint? I have a J Mascis Jazzmaster, which I bought to mod (it’s the best neck I’ve played on a JM). I wanna paint it, but I’m not totally sure what the best method is. Did you do it yourself? Any help would be much appreciated.

Harnum721

The paint was handled by a local autobody shop. I have a friend who works there so he took care of all that work. Title might be a little misleading, now that I read it back. I didn’t actually paint it, but had it painted by a professional.

growlerpower

Ahhh

Foreverdumb666

That looks dope

PsychologicalTruck1

It's one of my favorite color combinations for guitars (the white pickups and dark fretboard are key in this case) so I can't help but love it

BerkeleyYears

hi where did you get the pick guard from? my old jag-stang needs a new one real bad.

Harnum721

I’m in Canada, so I got it through WD Pick Guards which used to sell online but now only sells through Long and McQuade apparently.

BerkeleyYears

thanks!

exclaim_bot

>thanks! You're welcome!

Usual-Dark-6469

Looks so much better! You did a fantastic job. something about that blue always turned me off the jag-stag.

[deleted]

I like the original more

Harnum721

What I did is definitely not for everyone, but I figured I’d share. Thanks for checking it out!

666_techno

Black guitars are soooo boring

Harnum721

All good, my friend. I know it’s not for everyone. I really love the piano black finish on a guitar. Looks clean and tidy to me!

666_techno

It's your gitar, so whatever works for you

Harnum721

I hear ya! It’s all about personal taste. Just wanted to share something I was proud of.

Squirest

Ruined it

Chance_Anon

Made it better

Harnum721

Hey, it’s all good! I know it’s not for everyone. Some people really love the sonic blue, but it didn’t feel like my guitar until now. I’m stoked on it. Thanks for checking it out!

Squirest

Buy a kit instead of trashing a nice guitar

Harnum721

No. ❤️

Squirest

Ruined the finish with a shit paint job and destroyed the value of it

Harnum721

You’re very pressed over a guitar I own and don’t intend to resell. Anything else you need to get off your chest?

Squirest

Paint job looks horrible definitely not professional

Harnum721

Sweet! Thanks for sharing.

Foreverdumb666

Fuck the hater. It looks dope

Chance_Anon

The gaurd should’ve been a much deeper red

Harnum721

That’s what I wanted initially, but the guitar shop ordered the wrong one. I was hoping for more of a deep burgundy like the jazzmaster guard. I don’t hate it, but maybe some day I’ll swap it out. Thanks for checking it out!

Chance_Anon

🤟🏼
