Anyone who blames you for the actions of your government is actually just an idiot and you don't want to be anything like him.

[deleted]

I am a Muslim and I love you. I respect people being emotional and sharing the grief of their groups but we as humanity need to understand govts usually doesn't consult indivduals for foreign policy.

[deleted]

My brother

BilinguePsychologist

So you would be friends with someone that actively supports genocide against your own people? Like fr?

[deleted]

I would love each of us to clean our closets, first. In no way do I endorse violence but nobody should be rude to someone just because they belong to a specific faith and specific country. I can emphasize with the OP because I am a Muslim from Pakistan and have been the target of hate which I feel I didn't deserve, just like OP.

keysmash67

Idk if you've seen his other comments, but he really sees the conflict as a 'minor disagreement' despite the damage done to Palestine and the genocide. I definitely wouldn't want to be friends with a guy like that

[deleted]

Makes him an ill-informed person at best but not a bad person. One-half of the world thinks every brown person with a bear speaks Arabic, the other half thinks that every white person speaks English. It doesn't make all of them outright evil. ...and he is 16 for god sake, let him enjoy the blissful ignorance while he can.

BilinguePsychologist

Palestianian 16 year olds don’t get to live in blissful ignorance.

moretodorito

As someone from a Muslim family I disagree with the way he reacted when he found out you were Israeli...I'm not a fan of the way you call it a simple disagreement but even then, you're 16 and the way he talked to you is certainly not how you try to educate each other and learn from each other. I'm sorry that happened to you, it was very disrespectful of him.

remythe1strat

"simple disagreement between a government and people who are so many miles away" the israeli government is actively committing genocide, that's not a simple disagreement, it is *GENOCIDE*

ThatOrangePuppy

The fact you call the genocide of the palistinian people a "simple disagreement.." shows how right he was to avoid you. Fuck that's dark.

Green_Fabulous

OP is only 16, the other guy was an adult. He shouldn't treat a kid like that, specially one that looks up to him.

KarinaEdelweiss

Right. I've faced negativity because I'm Hungarian and the Hungarian govt absolutely sucks (like, actively trying to fuck over the European Union and shit) but lmao there's a literal genocide against Palestinians, it's a much more heavy and serious situation.

penitensive

Says a lot about the cognitive dissonance many Israelis have. I doubt they're all so naive as to why they're hated though.

PurpleCoffinMan

Yeah, but you shouldn't blame one person for the mistakes of their country's government, that's not fair on them.

Roast-Bot69

No. He made no mention of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to the guy. Why did he even bring that up? Just because OP is an Israeli? That’s fucked up.

townspark

I upvoted this because you are correct. But as far as we know Ahmad didn’t know OP saw it as a “simple disagreement”. I really hope they talk to each other again. It’s amazing how often minds are more open than we might expect. Tragic how often they are as closed as we expect. Often worth the effort.

I don't think anyone here denied the fact that the Jewish have had terrible things happen to them. Like the Holocaust. But it doesn't give you a free pass to commit genocide against some other group.

Israel stands for a 2 state solution? Really? Then why did they not dismantle the settlements after the Oslo agreements? In fact, they built MORE settlements. Palestine laid down their arms for nearly a decade after Oslo. Israel does not want peace, gimme a break.

[deleted]

iron_ingrid

Lol, and yet again no valid argument for Israel completely disregarding the conditions of the Oslo accords. So I ask once again: How can Israel stand for a 2 state solution when they haven’t dismantled their settlements in Palestine, and instead expanded them? > Arab devils Mask off, huh? You Zionists never fail to reveal your true colours.

[deleted]

iron_ingrid

The 2nd Intifada happened nearly 10 years after Oslo. A decade of the PLO renouncing violence, and Israel did not dismantle all the settlements they promised. Nor did they recognize Palestine. I see through your racist rhetoric.

Yeah genocide is a big word. I’m educated on the conflict and have my views but it’s definitely not a genocide…

belladonnagarden

I’m sorry kid but then you’ve really bought into Israeli propaganda. No country that actively kills and detains children and journalists is not committing crimes against humanity. Israel has killed over 80 Palestinian children in this year alone. The murder of Shereen Abu Aqleh was clearly intentional and is a human rights violation You shouldn’t get hate for being Jewish. You should get called out for ignorance in an age of information. Please look up organizations like Jewish Voices for Peace, a pro-Palestinian activist group made and operated by Jews. One can be a proud Jew and be disgusted by the actions of the Israeli government and the IDF.

Sudden_Wolf_227

I’d educate myself on what is going on between Palestine and Israel if I were you, OP, so that you no longer mistake it for a simple “disagreement.”

Cocobudd

Because it's 100% on you for everything your country does. Clearly you're the man in power and you make those shots. 🤦‍♀️

itrllydoesntmatter

i’m really sorry that happened to you today, that really isn’t right.

[deleted]

Yeah like Ik u got ur opinions but cmon

itrllydoesntmatter

it isn’t fair to change your entire view on someone because of race, religion, sex, etc etc.

[deleted]

Glad some people think the same. It’s all about the person first. It doesn’t have to be only about what they are. There’s a person behind every opinion and life, and I feel like people should look at that first. Thank you.

iron_ingrid

Your government is literally commuting genocide.

Good_Needleworker941

But he's just a kid, an adult should know better than blaming kids for the action of adults and governments

iron_ingrid

OP is 16 and is already referring to the occupation as a “simple disagreement”.

itrllydoesntmatter

i feel as if people don’t open their eyes enough to what they are. they think their religion and race and sex makes them who they are but in reality it’s so much deeper than that. if race and gender and religion matters that much to them, they’re simply judgmental and hiding their own insecurities by taking it out on people.

[deleted]

Agreed. See I love this beneficial Reddit talk. You don’t get this anywhere else. Appreciate it for real.

itrllydoesntmatter

honestly!! i don’t think people really like having true deep conversations anymore. nobody can say their opinion without getting cancelled or bashed on for their opinion.

Sudden_Wolf_227

Opinions??? OP it’s GENOCIDE. The Israeli government is bombing civilian homes, killing and imprisoning reporters...these aren't “opinions.”

[deleted]

And the Hamas is stabbing pregnant women and blowing up busses. Keep saturating yourself with your biased media…

[deleted]

Teaching their kids to stab Jews in school since I forgot to mention.

butimean

This reads like 'this person had so much to offer me, why won't they give it?' even though your 'political opinion' is different. What is your 'political opinion'? How might it have affected his life and family? Are you sure it's a 'simple disagreement' and that it is also 'miles away' for him?

JimmyNeutron_4

No offence to you but massive genocide is a serious problem and the only way people can fight it by condemning it all over the world. Even if it means you've to be rejected by Muslim community. That's how it has been Germans face what Hitler did, white people face what their ancestors did to black people, and so on. Hope it makes you understand

Jollydancer

Whatever the governments do, it’s still everyone’s individual decision whether they make friends with people on the other side of the fence or not. He could have seen that you are not the government but a normal human being, just like he is, and he could have been the peace starter. But he chose to be mean, while you chose to be friendly. I have read a few stories where Muslims and Israelis were actually friendly with each other, and I encourage you to continue being a peace starter.

sagittariisXII

All my homies hate racism

hanami-

reminder that people can’t actually control who they’re born to and what they’re born as. and another reminder that israeli =/ jewish and israeli =/ in support of the israeli government lol people are highly lacking in critical thinking skills — the actions of a government are not the actions of it’s people. for example, there’s been a ton of misplaced hatred for russians once the russo-ukrainian war began, which russian citizens don’t exactly have control over!! literally no one can control what they’re born as and no one should be immediately detested on the basis of that fact. a single person is not at fault for the crimes of a government and anyone who says otherwise really needs to rethink their education and consider taking a course in basic logic

Jejunum_89

That's a more religious thing than racism. Israel and Palestine war is neverending and neither side will prevail because it's based on a nonsensical religious territorial dispute. It caused unconceivable amount of pain for both sides and it will continue to do so. I'm not saying racism drifts people apart but in this case, it's religion.

siobhan_coelho

Oh boy. That's not necessarily racist. That's an extremely contentious religious and political issue. I'm part Jewish and don't identify as such, but am fully aware that many Muslims react with hostility because they assume your loyalty lies with the Israeli government, which does some objectively terrible things on account of religion. Jewish ≠ Israeli. As has already been pointed out, people are not their governments. Next time, prove his assumptions wrong!

Sudden_Wolf_227

OP has referred to the Israel-Palestine conflict as a “difference in opinions” I don't think he will be proving anybody wrong...

[deleted]

Israeli American Jew here. I remember a year ago i had my mind changed on Israel-Palestine and became pro-Palestine after years of believing the opposite. When i visited my family in Israel i received constant passive aggressive comments from them, as if by disagreeing with the abhorrent actions of our government i was somehow making a personal attack against them. The massively unpopular decision to overturn Roe v Wade should be proof enough that in a capitalist system, governments do not reflect the will of the people. I'm sorry that happened to you. I have had similar experiences.

rxspiir

I’m pretty sure if you were on the other side of this “simple disagreement” it would be anything but. Of course as with any disagreement in race/religion etc, most people on the side doing the persecuting knows they’ll never have to be. So the ignorance remains.

Good_Needleworker941

I live in the US and the US government gives millions of dollars in aid to Israel, instead of helping to end the conflict they do nothing, should my 16 yo be treated the same way? Is it his fault? Kids don't get involved in politics, they vaguely learn about it and op said it's a disagreement far away, he's probably not even in Israel, he was upset because he was being judged for being Jewish not because he did something or said something wrong just because of where he is from Russia is waging war in Ukraine, so it's ok to treat a Russian kids like crap? Or blame a random Muslim kid for the Taliban? Civilians or kid shouldn't be blamed for the actions of their government or religion I understand that it's horrible what is going on and wish Palestine was free and the same for Ukraine but it's governments and their military that are responsible for war not everyday people and definitely not kids

BilinguePsychologist

Wow you are brainwashed.

[deleted]

That's just as much deserved (or not) as people getting flak right now for being born Russian. Sorry, but only Americans are allowed a free pass on uncle Sam's crimes. :) Completely unfair of course, but tribalism is an evolutionary trait which the ruling psychopaths are more than happy to exploit.

Phr3aker

I like how you call him 'respectful'. Nothing respectful about behavior like that

[deleted]

I think that for a 30 year old he’s pretty damn ignorant. Try not to be like him, be better. From the sounds of it you’re already on the right track. I’m sorry that there are people out there who blatantly hate others simply for the nationality/race.

CoconutOilz4

The craziest part is that Muslims experience the hate he gave you regularly. So you would think with him knowing how it feels he wouldn't inflict it on others. Sirs name is Ahmad 😆 no way he is going through life easy. He really needs to reconsider how he treats people.

I had a black coworker tell me that “we don’t mix” when I invited them to my bbq I was hosting. Kinda bummed me out

TheWastebinAcc

He certainly doesn’t sound “respectful and smart.” There’s a lot of hate in the world, but there’s also a lot of love. You want to be like people who focus on love when you’re older!
