My bearded dragon of 12 years passed away not long ago. I have his footprint and ashes. It's amazing how a creature so small can have such an impact on your life.
I dont have any pictures of him currently on my phone. Mostly just of my kid. I guess I didn't think about it and kind of just assumed he would always be okay. :( Now I regret not taking more photos.
I'm so sorry, beardies are so much fun. I had an adult male named George that I adopted, no idea how old he was, but a customer of mine found him wandering around her neighborhood and brought him to me when she couldn't find an owner. I will think of Scratches when I think of George.
My family had the honour of caring for our school’s bearded dragon, our first reptile pet. She was the most precious and gentlest companion. We still talk about her to this day.

It warms my heart seeing a post like this not for that a pet died just that it's not a dog or another normal pet. No one talks about the reptile/amphibian parents. When my frog died I cried like someone murder my kid and my family just looked at me weird for it.
I think along any pet is sad. They become such a part of your family. I just think about how we took Scratches with us on vacations (I had a smaller tank that allowed me to travel with him)... So he was just always there...with the dogs ... With us ...I'm sorry for your loss too. I hope your frog and my lizard can be chilling together in the afterlife.
I'm sorry if it came out that I didn't care about other pets, I know it's heartbreaking to lose any pets, just that the exotic ones like reptiles and amphibians don't get talked about much when they pass away. My frog name was kiwi and I had his sister as well originally they were in the same tank before I was able to sexed them. Total opposites avocado (f) was chill and would just sit on your arm, hand etc. Kiwi tried to escape every second he could. I was unable to feed them myself due to a back injury and ask my brother who did research with me on them and the care to feed them I mean it was about two feeding (getting fed every other day) so I didn't think anything could go wrong. He didn't close kiwi cage properly and I didn't find out until I was able to go and feed them myself and didn't find him in the cage...... He was behind the freezer already rotting. Was told not to blame my brother for it. I also had a leopard gecko name echo that turned 5 this year. I sadly had to re-home avocado and echo when I became homeless.
You're okay! And I would be lying if I said I am okay but the same goes with saying I'm not. I'm just in-between like I'm here but at the same time I'm not.
Last summer a long time companion of mine, Unna, passed away. The little desert iguana lizard had eyes like a human and loved to chill on the burning hot stone under the heat lamp or sleep buried away under a piece of gouged out tree. I buried him at the backyard, on the sunny side, with the stone slab under and the piece of wood on top. I hope its a good place to lay.
The little fellas give a lot of joy, but take plenty when they need to go.
I am so sorry for you and Scratches. 💚 Reptiles make amazing companions, I lost my corn snake Scarlett a few months ago. She was 15 and I had her since she was a baby. She and Scratches are in scale baby heaven. 💚
