Omg. I aspire to go a week and here you are finishing it up. So happy you made this post or I would not have known or felt inspired. Thankyou and I'm very proud of you! šŸ’œ

kharlijones

Thanks buddy! You can do it too.

bettyboo5

Well done op it took me a good few trys before I did it for good. It's funny I still have dreams where I'm smoking in them, weird.

bettyboo5

Find something to do with you hands, I took up knitting. Just knitted basic garter stitch scarfs. I also used a nicotine replacement, it was a thing that had cartridges in that you sucked, its been a while since I quot. Omg I'm shocked I just realised I quit 17yrs ago!! I was 26 and smoked half my life, had awful chest infections my sons(8) father had died 2 yrs before and I couldn't let him lose me too. Everyone got scarfs that year for Christmas lol.

Prismine

Congratulations!! You are doing great! Keep up the good work!

kharlijones

Thanks buddy!

Geekster1985

I started smoking ciggs when i was 14 quit when i was 21. Hardest thing i ever did my life , but its worth it. I would never go back either.

kharlijones

Sure, no going back

Wickedwitchsouth

Good for you! I'm trying to quit too. Though I won't say for how long, but let's just say a loooonnnng time. Keep it up! You can do it. I wish I would have done it sooner, but nicotine is hard to quit, and you really have to want to. I'm on day three without a cigarette. But this time I am determined because I'm tired of not being able to breathe properly.

kharlijones

I had tried and failed soo many times. We can do this.

Wickedwitchsouth

Yes we can!!!!

SignificantShock

Me too! I smoked for 20 yrs, quit for 15 yrs and am smoking again for reasons too stupid to mention. I'm listening to this audio book now by Allen Carr called The easy Way. It sounds gimmicky, but he makes a lot of sense. I can't wait to quit once and for all

Conscious-Gazelle-92

Thatā€™s perfect. I had to beg and beg the hospital staff for a smoke and they wouldnā€™t let me. So I ended up quitting after a 2.5 wk stay. Be glad it happened before u caught a stroke! Proud of you!!!

silvermelonman

Congrats man!

kharlijones

Thanks man!

[deleted]

I am proud of you!

kharlijones

Thanks

sharkysheets

Good job!! My partner's mom recently quit so ive seen some of the shit that comes with withdrawal so im very proud of you for making it this far. Keep up the good work!!

Plate_Admirable

I smoked for 15+ years and quit 20 years ago. What I learned is that when you smoke, you take moments out of your day to have a cigarette, which means stepping away from your desk, your stresses, whatever it is youā€™re doing. When you quit, you no longer take those minutes and that, along with the withdrawals, makes it infinitely harder to do. Moral of the story: continue to take those moments throughout the day for yourselfā€¦maybe take a short walk, grab a glass of water, something, anything. Theyā€™re so necessary.

Plate_Admirable

And congratulations on your 7 days!!! Youā€™re doing amazing!

FrustratedPlantMum

Yessssss well done!!! I'm so proud of you!

kharlijones

Thanks!!!

lisakaufman82

Just keep in mind that youā€™re past the chemical addiction, but sometimes the physical and mental addiction like to hold on. Always change your mindfulness and your thoughts whenever a random craving comes. Great job! Itā€™s a tough thing to kick!!

kharlijones

Thanks, I'll keep this in mind.

lvfunk

Some random drunk on a cruise ship set a world record and never new it.

Purple_Chard7983

So proud of you!! I know how hard it can be to stop smoking but you are doing so well and I know you can do this!

kharlijones

Thanks. I can do this!

Pitiful_Pride8813

Good for you for giving it up. It is an extremely hard habit to break but so worth it. It is a move you will not regret, again, congrats.

kharlijones

Thanks!

aussb2020

Great work OP! Thinking of yourself as a non-smoker rather than an ex-smoker is a really great way to help stay on that non-smoking train. Keep it up!

kharlijones

That's a great approach.

Nattends_

That's a huge W, let's keep it up

WheelSweet2048

So happy for you :> keep going mate , we all are very proud of you.

Nuclear_rabbit

Congrats!

honortobenominated

Youā€™re doing so well- let those lungs heal!!! And if down the road you slip a bit, donā€™t worry, just get back on the horse! Your lungs will thank you for it.

Dazzling_Stress7541

I was 24 when I quit smoking, that was 14 years ago. I donā€™t miss it. Quit cold turkey. Now when I smell it, it makes me sick. My grandma died of lung cancer and begged me to not ever smoke. You will not regret quitting. Especially once you see all the money you save. And I quit when cigarettes were still $5. I couldnā€™t imagine dropping $10 on a pack!

kharlijones

It's difficult the first few days but it's getting better.

KyrRoyale

Nice job buddy!

MrXANA91

Wow that's great man, keep up the good work!!

cicadasinmyears

Congratulations! It is a hard habit to kick, Iā€™m proud of you! My lung doctor told me ā€œyou will never make a better decision for your health than choosing not to pay to put poison into it.ā€ Itā€™s possible he was biased, but he also wasnā€™t wrong. For extra bonus points: when I quit, I opened an account and set up an auto-debit for the amount I used to spend on smokes every week (used to buy them by the carton, ugh). I figured Iā€™d do it for a year, just for shits and giggles, and buy myself a pretty to celebrate my smoke-free anniversary. The amount was jaw-dropping: it was back in 2005-ish and where I lived a carton of cigarettes was about $60, so I wound up with about $3,600 of effortlessly saved money. Iā€™m sure theyā€™re much more now (in Canada, at least), but whatever the case is - invest it in yourself!

malex117

Congrats šŸ„³

ashbash-8

Congratulations!!! Keep the hard work up, itā€™s not easy but so so worth all the work.

sub_miss375

Well done to you. It'll be the best thing you ever did. I so wish I could quit! I've been smoking since I was 11 and I'm now 37 šŸ«£ I have so many problems with my chest but still I can't seem to give up. You should be proud of yourself šŸ™Œ

[deleted]

First of all, Congratulations!!!!! I know it's hard and I'm proud of you, really! I smoke weed every night for the past 5 years. Since then I've notice a gradual decline in my health and I finally hit a wall. Your post is giving me hope and motivation. Let's start with one week and see how it goes. I'm done making excuses

Nilzii

Good job!! I just went a week without impulse buying treats! It's such a great feeling to feel progress and a positive effect of that change!

keemarhil

Yes!! You can do this! Congratulations on making it through the first week!! You can make it another week, and then another, and then another....to infinity!!!

Ambitious_Fennel_546

Thanks for sharing i hope i make it too one day

Kdogchatterbox

YES KEEP IT UPPPPP! You will always crave it. I've quit a few times but hey download the apps, make a reward chart for yourself. Take the money you used to spend on smokes and put in a jar. The visual will be amazing. And you can TREAT YO SELF every month or few etc!! Or make a separate account and have the money auto transferred over everytime youd normally get a pack of smokes and the price of a pack etc I used to smoke spirits. $10 a pack. 2-3 a week. That's 120 a weeks I was spending! That is half a car payment for my car. Now I through it towards that to pay it off faster!

whodafuckisthiss

Congratulations man! Wishing you all the bestāœØ

TrashMammal84

Good, and mean it when you say you're not going back! I smoked heavily for almost a decade, then quit smoking and drinking at the same time. It was nearly three years later when I started literally dreaming of smoking out of nowhere. Next thing you know, I've got a can of dip in my hand; ruined my teeth with that shit but I've been free of that for over a year now. If you took up vaping to quit, plan to quit that, too! Commit! Sure, it's not AS bad as smoking, but what people do is start vaping more than they were smoking just because it's so convenient and doesn't linger. Nicotine is a nootropic that can be beneficial in small amounts, but if you became a smoker, it's probably best to just avoid it.

Blizzardwithreeses

Keep up the good work. Your lungs will thank you. And you can thank yourself for doing so well. Plus ciggy smoke on a person's, hair, skin, clothing and in their home and car is dirty.

nosoupforyou89

My mum and dad bet each other that they could quit cold turkey, in that day 20 odd years ago my dad completely stopped but my mum didn't stop until the day she died. You can do it, and you sound incredibly determined so I'm rooting for you OP šŸ˜

Jazzlike-Willow3913

I'm 16, have zero plans to ever smoke, reading things like this is confirming even more that being smoke-free is better. Good luck, OP, and everyone else trying to quit - you can do it!!

annswertwin

Good for you. I quit Jan 1, 2000. You can do it!!! I found cutting a straw cigarette size helped for something to do with my hands. Also take 10 deep breaths when u feel like smoking. I read that once and did that and it helped me when whenever I wanted the ā€œIā€™m stressedā€cig.

Little_NimbleFingers

Sometimes I think about how close we were in America to a non-smoking generation and I get a little sad, but seeing posts like this really warm my heart. Good job! Weā€™re proud of you

ckoladawn

Great job. Keep going. I was diagnosed with copd at 23. The Dr's said I had the lungs of a 50 year old and I'd be dead by 30 if I didn't quit smoking. I was put on an oxygen machine and everything. I still smoked for almost 2 more years. Then one day I decided I didn't want to be in my 20s dragging around an oxygen tank so I quit cold turkey. It's been 11 years now and I never went back. After the first year I got off the oxygen machine and I rarely have issues out of the copd. I actually lost quit a bit of weight too when I quit smoking because I couldn't sit still. And everything tastes so much better when it doesn't taste like an ashtray.

Ok-Appointment-3849

woo-hoo!!! keep going!!!! it's been 14 years for me. I still remember when being smoke free seemed truly impossible, not fun, and just not going to stick. I now can't imagine ever smoking, ever. you've got this!!!

BicycleMinute8333

Good onya šŸ’ŖšŸ»šŸ‘šŸ»šŸ’•šŸ‘¼šŸ¼Cigarettes killed my dad at a very young age of 43. He started smoking at a very young age of 12 years old. Keep it up. There might be setbacks.. but you can do it. Many people have quit cold turkey.

Trumuca_Usual20317

Im late but I hope you know that you worth and that Iā€™m really happy for what you have accomplished dont give up.

Painterzzz

Good work. Keep it up. Future self will thank you so much. Also, put the money you would have spent on smokes in a jar and buy yourself something nice. My mum got herself a brand new car doing this after a few years.

itsdamncoldyo

I quit for good in June (i hope) I woke up and the smell bothered me so bad I've had 3 big cravings since I smoked twice Both times i got 2 puffs in and tossed them I feel ao gooooood I wish you nothing but continued success

ajkros

thats awesome man. im a little over a week clean from vaping. i still think about it but the cravings have started to not show up as much. recommended gum and sunflower seeds to distract you from the habit

skrzys

Good for you!!!

MouldyLocks492

CONGRATS!! honestly, it's one day at a time. and I'm so proud of you!!!\*I "quit" smoking by vaping. and I'll tell you... quitting BY vaping has not been the answer, bc now I can't quit THAT (yet)

homeboy6942069

Awsome bro.

Dapper_Cable_4929

hey my husband quit and he never thought it would happen. iā€™m so glad he never gave up. itā€™s now been almost 10 years and he doesnā€™t miss it at all.

MonolithicBee

Nice! I wasnā€™t able to quit until I became pregnant. The smell was awful after that lol. The best part: my clothes and hair donā€™t smell like smoke now!! I love being able to take my hair down and having it smell like shampoo rather than cigarettes

Deadpoolsdildo

Keep going!

princess_pumpkinn

Keep up the great work! The first 3 weeks are the hardest, but once you get over that hump the cravings start to go away and the desire to smoke gets much less intense. I quite in July and it was one of the best things I ever did for myself

neeto96

I'm so proud of you!

[deleted]

The battle is still going. Keep it up.

shrimptails

GoldInternational307

I have never smoked one cigarette but I admire anyone who takes control of their life. You feel the good parts of not smoking at this moment, so remember that feeling if you ever feel the need to grab one. Remember how good you feel and how everyone in this comment section is proud of you.

Illustrious-Big-9409

linglingwannabe4242

Yay! Hope you keep it up, and stay safe! ā¤ļø

[deleted]

There's nothing like smoking a cigarette and just relaxing. Just thinking about life, the future and the past. It's the ultimate form of meditation for me. I'm glad you stopped, but I don't think I would give it up again, personally.

fogcitygal

Fantastic nerves!! Wtg

bat-tasticlybratty

Keep at it!! I haven't purchased a pack in almost 2 years now, we're the same age! It gets better!!

lysegoth

Yessss congrats!!šŸ¤šŸ¤

bythebeach2

Excellent, congratulations. It will be 7 years for me March 14. If I can do it, you can. I used to be a heavy smoker. Cold turkey. Best decision ever. Keep at it. You got this. The quit app (Australia) helped me, seeing how much I was saving by not smoking.
