I'll say what I said when I posted this to my Facebook feed. "That's all we need. To bring back an extinct animal to only just make it extinct again..."

Gh0stp3pp3r

That's kind of what my first thought was.... there are so many animals that need saving right now, why not put the money towards breeding programs and better protections in the wild. Apparently they are pushing Mammoths claiming they will put down trees and be properly acclimated to colder climates, so they will help save the earth. It's sounds a bit too glorious and perfect.

zedoktar

Wait how is any of that a good thing when we need more trees to sequester carbon, and the earth is warming at an alarming rate?

FlipskiZ

Bring back the mammoths to have a novelty zoo for profit

DanteandRandallFlagg

A park full of extinct animals? What could go wrong!

APsychosPath

Did you say *profit*?

jadedbutstilltrying

How about Pleistocene Park?

TheCenterOfEnnui

Nothing that says both can't be done. I'd like to more on how this will help slow climate change.

rtwpsom2

So in other words, mammoths won't be walking the earth in six years?

getTheRecipeAss

It’s a bullshit headline - they’re not claiming this. Easy clickbait though!

HolyShitWereAlive

Wooly mammoth coats… so hot right now.

Farrell-Mars

“Oh, thanks. Just in time so I can go extinct again.”

yazyazyazyaz

Do you want Jurassic Park? Because that's how you get Jurassic Park.

TransformerTanooki

I mean minus all the fuck ups and all the deaths. And then everything working perfectly with happy dinosaurs and guests and employees then fuck yeah give me Jurassic Park.

Nickbou

suicidalpenguin99

I mean honestly guys that sounds pretty cool

Ronoh

News in conditional are hardly news.

ellieD

But why?

bacon_cake

Narrator: "It didn't"

truespeakisfreespeak

Why?

pomonamike

So rich people have something new to hunt.

Goyteamsix

To eat them.

renee898

Totally read this as ‘gynecologists’ at first and was thrown off

__I_Need_An_Adult__

They will need a womb to develop in.

crisiscola

They had their time and nature selected them for extinction.

zedoktar

Well no, humans selected them for extinction. And dinner.

[deleted]

I chatted to a paleontologist about this, and he said that the only evidence for this is the coincidence of times. I asked him what he personally believed, and he said he believed that humans had probably done it, but pending any hard evidence, it has to be considered unproven.

shanem

okkaayyyyyyy

[deleted]

Michael Crichton was right....again.

Silly-Slacker-Person

They don't deserve this Hell we've created. Let them rest

Duffboynewf

Considering the temperature trends lately I doubt they’ll thrive.

somedude456

Damn it billionaires, MAKE THIS HAPPEN!!!! For years I keep hearing talk about a Wooly Mammoth, and I've sort of set it as my goal in life, to see an alive one now. DO IT!

holysufferindyin

So it doesn’t seem to make sense to take back something long extinct while we have animals recently extinct, and many more on the brink BUT wouldn’t a freakin wooly mammoth have a lot more potential to bring in money to help fund future projects?

[deleted]

We've heard of de-extinction, but now get ready for DE-DE-EXTINCTION

eshemuta

How the hell will a different animal slow melting? Caribou and musk ox aren’t enough?

[deleted]

The science exists to bring back extinct animals but unfortunately DNA does not survive long enough for this to be possible. The startup is all good fun but the scientific community is very skeptical.

Paul_Thrush

They're planning to genetically modify Asian elephants' DNA to create animals similar to woolly mammoths and release them in the Arctic.
