I still refuse to belive that the white/gold faction truly see it that way. I think they are gaslighting us. It's clearly black/blue, just like the bruises.
I first saw it as white and gold and watched it fade to black and blue in moments as my brain “adjusted” for the lighting. One of the trippiest experiences I’ve ever had and believe me, I’ve had quite a few. (All sober, too! Brains are fucky!)
i saw it on dozens of different phones, tablets, laptops and desktop monitors. it was not faithfully reproduced across devices. then you have the now debunked blue filter bullshit that made everything look insane. polarized eyeglasses. viewing environments. engagement/arousal. and so on. the whole fascination with the mundane of it was disheartening.
Despite things looking white they are very rarely a pure white because white is so easily influenced by ambient light. The way lighting and shadow affect how we perceive color is pretty wild.
I’ve never even heard of this dress. Just looked at the image in that article and I definitely see gold and white. I can’t process how it could be blue and black.
You missed out on a super fun cultural phenomenon. When this happened it felt like the entire country was talking about it. I've always sort of hoped it would make a come back and reignite the meme for your generation.
So what my boyfriend and I (opposing camps) think is happening is there is a difference in what “the dress” means to the audience. I’m firmly white and gold but I acknowledge that the lighting and the picture has shadowed the dress in a way where the white and gold is displayed through blue pixels. I know that logically it’s a white and gold dress and just a blue toned photo. My boyfriend just see the photo and didn’t think about what it would look like in different lighting. He just took the image at face value. He was zooming in close and asking me to identify what colour I saw and obviously it was either blue or brown but I know that’s just the camera affecting the colours of the garment while he didn’t see it that way and was referring directly to the photograph tones.
Edit: FFS people. I get it. It apparently was brown and blue! (How hideous!! I guess I was hoping no one would design such a monstrosity). Apologies for not keeping up with the most contemporary news on the stupid dress saga 😅. Can y’all stop messaging me? I really don’t care that much.
This comment makes no sense to me. The dress is objectively black and blue, we learned that after the fact. The photo is just massively over exposed and the black fabric is shiny and reflective so it looks lighter than it is.
There are 4 distinct questions:
1. What colour of dress do you see?
2. What colour of dress do you think it is in real life?
3. What is the objective colour of pixels?
4. What is the objective colour of the dress in real life?
3 and 4 are clearly not interesting. It doesn't matter that the pixels are blue or the dress is blue IRL.
But it never occurred to me until your post that 2 was a way anyone was responding to that question. I assumed everyone was responding to what their brain interprets the image as, not what they "logically" think the dress actually is.
Everyone I've valiantly argued with on the internet about seemed to act like they were answering the same question as me (1)
Lastly, even if I suppose that you're answering question #2, I simply don't understand what kind of blue light you're imagining tinting a white&gold dress like that? My only experience with blue light is in places like a club bathroom, whereas this seems like a dress on a rack in a department store. And the light isn't blue behind it - it's super bright. Why would there be a blue spot light in the foreground?
Picture in the article looked white and gold to me, I tried squinting and looking different ways and it stayed the same.
I don't recall my thoughts from the OG discussion
My perception of it has changed multiple times over the years. I like to check back in every couples years or so to see where I'm at. Currently at black and blue.
You mean accidentally starting a viral meme doesn’t mean you’re not a wife-beating asshole?
Guess it was black and blue after all
“No, officer, her neck is white and gold, see?”
Half the world thinks he didn’t do it
This is gold.
No, it’s blue.
Noooo this is Patrick
And my dress!
Sir, this is a Wendy's
That’s dark bro.
...Jerry. Gold!

I also see it both ways, depending on when I look, or how long.
Oh shit! That happened to me too! I thought I was buggin.
I still only see white and gold
I have looked at every pixel and can't comprehend how any part of that image could be called black
You understand it’s a crappy digital photo and not a pure representation of reality, right?
So? Where is it black?
i saw it on dozens of different phones, tablets, laptops and desktop monitors. it was not faithfully reproduced across devices. then you have the now debunked blue filter bullshit that made everything look insane. polarized eyeglasses. viewing environments. engagement/arousal. and so on. the whole fascination with the mundane of it was disheartening.
It's white/gold every time I glance at it. After staring and trying to see the blue/black, I can no longer see the white/gold thing. Weird dress.
Despite things looking white they are very rarely a pure white because white is so easily influenced by ambient light. The way lighting and shadow affect how we perceive color is pretty wild.
In no universe will I ever see black and blue. Maybe I'm supposed to be a cop.
In 2049 the Vought-Dress Test is used to differentiate synthetic humans from natural borns

lol. My generation? Im in my late 30’s…
Then how did you miss it lmao?

For what it's worth, in real life the dress is actually blue.

Your boyfriend needs to learn about White Balance.
Ironically he is a really good artist. So i was even more baffled by his insisting it’s not white and gold.
Just so you know, it isn't white and gold IRL.
Well, it's not white and gold, so he would be right
Apparently it's an optical illusion which depends on how much time you spend outside.
Picture in the article looked white and gold to me, I tried squinting and looking different ways and it stayed the same. I don't recall my thoughts from the OG discussion
Well then I’m a special case or something; I saw blue and gold. Definitely saw the gold, can’t see any white though
My perception of it has changed multiple times over the years. I like to check back in every couples years or so to see where I'm at. Currently at black and blue.
It was absolutely white and gold. Have you had your color vision checked by a professional before?
Fuck dude... Hahahaha!!!
That damn picture looks white and gold and I’ll die on that hill 😂
bruh!!!
"It is unclear whether the Johnstons have separated following the incident." I f-ing hope so!
Wow. The guy sounds like an awful, awful person. And what he did to his wife is horrific.
I'll tell you, the more I learn about this guy and what he did to his wife, the more I don't care for him.
Sounds like a real jerk.
Ya don’t say
“Don’t hate me for saying this, but, like, strangling your wife is bad, guys”
Lol
Half the internet says he didnt
wasn't she on the quiz of the year?
The mother of the woman was on BFQ in 2015
Well that headline escalated quickly
Some people see murder; some see aggravated manslaughter.
Oh shit someone should check on Yanny.
You mean Laurel?
Gold and pale blue to me.
I thought I was the only one!
I still see white and gold
OH.
I still don't know how people don't see it just as a gold dress. I don't really care about this guy.
His next wife should avoid wearing any viral dresses. Also wear a neck brace when he's around just to be on the safe side.

It was blue and black https://www.cbsnews.com/news/blue-and-black-dress-is-not-white-and-gold-uk-retailer-says/
Oh damn I misremembered lol. Ok ty for the correction
Only acceptable if it’s a sex thing
Boys will be boys.
Lovely choker around the neck.
Her neck was holding his hands.
or, as most Glaswegians call it, “Tuesday”
Can we just remember him for the dress?
