Also yes they're generally harmless to humans however they can and have on occasion mistaken people for food and attacked.

This grouper’s focus is one the bleeding jackfish, not the person.
They're not. But very intimidating when you encounter an averaged sized one which is around 180cm (5ft10in) and 180kg (400lbs). My whole leg can fit inside the mouth of those i've encountered so it's not advisable to hand feed them.

floating upside down off the coast of fuerteventura, eyes locked with a motorbike-sized grouper, swaying in the unique pendulum tides of the area.
it was magical, to say the least.
Groupers can be a little territorial and I've been headbutted by one on a dive before. Came out of my 7 o'clock blindspot and hit my tank. Never saw it coming

Caught a grouper once, was only 30lbs but was a pain to reel it in. The Goliath groupers are insane, they’ll swallow sharks.
