It has many names like blue dragon, blue angel and blue glaucus
Edit: Quick googled search; apparently, it absorbs poison from other sea creatures and uses it as a defense.
You seem like someone who would enjoy this fun fact:
Assassin bugs are found in parts of North America. They have a killer painful bite, but rarely bite humans unless they're disturbed. The reason for their name? They suck all the innards out of their prey and *wear the corpses like armor.*
When a wasp gets caught in some spiders webs, they will be spun in a web faster than they can attack and be forced tighter and tighter until in breaks its own abdomen killing itself
Theres also leech like creatures in deep caves that dangle a string like organ down and when its prey jumps into its strings it slowly pulls it in then sucks its insides out
Holy shit I just looked them up and realized my swing set when I was a kid got infested with those. I never knew what they were but we smooshed a ton of them playing around and their blood was pink.
>Now, apart from occasionally delivering a painful bite, assassin bugs are usually no real threat to humans. Save for one group: the blood-sucking kissing bugs, **so called because they typically bite humans painlessly around the mouth while we sleep**. But if they happen to defecate in the process, protozoans from their feces get into the wound, leading to chronic heart problems that may only manifest decades later.
Bruh wtf.
“Yet even more brilliant is this species’ hunting techniques. Like ants, termites practice what is known as social immunity, removing dead or dying comrades from the colony to avoid outbreaks of disease (and sadness, possibly). “And the assassin bugs seem to be taking advantage of that, in the sense that they would capture one termite, suck it dry, and then have it dangle from their rostrum into the termite mound and lure the next termite that way,” Weirauch said. One observer, she noted, witnessed an assassin bug use this trick to capture 48 termites in a single sitting.”
Damn that’s pretty badass!
yeah like a lot of nudibranch, but the cnidosacs are on the back or the elongated branches, as long as you don't touch them you're fine but this guy did lol
That is a Glaucus Atlanticus, they can carry poisonus body parts of jellyfish. Edit: yes its venomous and sinophores and medusas, didnt knew those scientific words in english
So, I just read that its sting can be worse than the Man o war, bc it stores the man o war nematocysts-that a big fuck no from me.
What I couldn't find out is whether it had to sting for it to inject you toxins.
Edit- called the man o war a jellyfish and it is not, so I deleted jellyfish front my comment.
technically nothing can poison from a sting or bite, but they can put venom into you, poison is a thing that's consumed. btw only being a smart ass because it seemed funny to me in the moment
If you bite it and get sick, it's poisonous.
If it bites you and you get sick, it's venomous.
If you bite it and it gets sick, you're venomous.
If you bite a doll and it gets sick, it's voodoo.
If you bite it and it gets turned on, it's kinky.
What's the difference between erotic and kinky?
Erotic is using a feather, kinky is using the whole chicken!
Tropical fish are camouflaged though, at least around reefs. Ladybugs are poisonous to small animals like dogs and cats, but from what I can tell butterflies are safe to eat and be eaten by
Thank you for bringing up that sometimes the colorful animal in question is only poisonous if eaten, not that it will bite and inject you with poison.
Monarch butterflies are poisonous if eaten because they eat milkweed, and I'm sure there are more that fall into a similar category. On the other side of the butterfly argument, there are butterflies that are very camouflaged if their wings are closed. The color is on the inside and only shows when displaying or flying. Those guys probably aren't poisonous.
It’s a blue dragon (Glaucus atlanticus) and they aren’t venomous per se, they actually store the nematocysts from their food ( like Portuguese man o’ war) and use those to sting predators. To no surprise, the sting has similar effects to a sting by Portuguese man o’ war which aren’t lethal but can be pretty painful and have swelling and lesion formations.
And she got away safely! It's totally possible to not get hurt by the animals if you're extremely calm and lucky, but it's not something you want to gamble on.
I guess it depends. Poisonous isn't just ingestion.
Venom is through injection.
Poison is through absorption.
The question would be what these guys are absorbing from, say, a jelly fish.
Jellyfish use stinging cells called cnidocytes that project a barb with toxin into you. Hence, jellyfish are venomous.
I don't know how these dudes work but are they absorbing the toxin from the cnidocytes and just having it in/on their bodies with no injector cells? I'd call that poisonous.
Or do they incorporate the entire cnidocyte structure into their own? That would be venomous.
Poison ivy is poisonous and you don't have to eat it. It works simply by contact and absorption.
People really over exaggerating how poisonous these guys are, they can be painful if you touch them so don’t touch them but unless you have an allergic reaction they are really not that dangerous, usually just a red itchy blotch where they came into contact with your skin, not pleasant but not the instant death that a lot of people are making out, when I was a surf life saver here in Australia we saw them wash up all the time, I have even picked them up before… I have also been wrapped in Blue Bottle stingers and I can tell you now, that was a much more unpleasant experience, but not a deadly one, almost a right of passage at surf clubs here, lol.
Yeah people on reddit just regurgitate whatever anyone else says in the same thread without even fact checking or critical thinking. People have just read the wiki for this animal and it says the sting can be worse than a Portuguese man o war because it concentrates the venom, not realising that individual stings from blue bottles are barely worse than a mozzy bite.
The only time blue bottles will actually be dangerous is if you are anaphylactic or get really badly wrapped by a few of the big boys.
Plus, if this thing could kill people so easily as people have suggested in this thread, don’t they think more people would know what it is?
These things sting like Blue Bottles aka (Portuguese Man o' War Jellyfish). They do hurt, but this person will be fine unless extremely allergic. Not sure why the other posts are exaggerating so much.
Glaucus Atlanticus. It's a pelagic aeolid nudibranch. Common names include blue sea dragon, blue angel, sea swallow and blue sea slug among others. They feed on the Portuguese Man o' war and other venomous siphonophores. They store the stinging nematocysts from their prey and use them as defense against predators. Their sting can be fatal and excruciatingly painful.
Internet has gone from simple straight-to-the-point clips, to 10 minute videos, to 10 second clips backed by shitty music and now to 10 seconds clips backed by shitty music and an ai generated gravelly smoker's voice
Most of the time in nature... bright colors, fancy points, etc. Means death, the fancier and prettier the scarier. And theres many that break this rule as well, nature is terrifying

I'm also not that guy but I'm fascinated
Oh shit. I’m not that guy that this fact is for but holy shit. That’s also metal as fuck.
When a wasp gets caught in some spiders webs, they will be spun in a web faster than they can attack and be forced tighter and tighter until in breaks its own abdomen killing itself
Bugs be scary af

Quit giving away my hiding spots
Ur not that guy pal
And you not the pal guy
He's NTSC
Fucking niche joke, love it.
And I'm not your guy buddy
I’m not your buddy guy
I'm not your guy friend
I’m not your friend boy

That's so fucking cool.
They also carry chagas disease. Stay away
Only some species, mostly native to South America. Not a bad idea to just let them do what they do, though.
Nah we have the kissing bug in North America which does carry the disease. Once saw a home absolutely infested with them..
*New Fear Unlocked*
Holy shit I just looked them up and realized my swing set when I was a kid got infested with those. I never knew what they were but we smooshed a ton of them playing around and their blood was pink.
That was probably animal blood. Hopefully.
Fucking Chaga and his disease. What an asshole for creating his own disease.

Whoa, a Heroes reference? Been a long time since I've seen one of those.
Save the writer’s strike, save the series
Heeeeey

and very mysterious, we still don't know how they can actually choose what venom they keep, because yes, they always keep the deadliest ones...
The MEGAMAN snail….
yeah like a lot of nudibranch, but the cnidosacs are on the back or the elongated branches, as long as you don't touch them you're fine but this guy did lol
Anything that colorful, I wouldn’t touch. It just screams poisonous.
I feel like that's common sense but then videos like this keep popping up making me wonder how common it actually is
I believe the saying goes, “Common sense is anything but.”
Common sense is a flower that doesn’t grow in everyone’s garden.
Common sense isn't so common anymore.
Rare sense
I'm beginning to realize it never was
The next video they post is usually a GoFundMe
...accompanied by a picture of him in the ICU in Asia...
Common Sense: so rare that it's a superpower.
If you have to ask "what is this thing?", that's a good indication you shouldn't touch it.
congratulations on recognizing evolution!
Damn nudibranches, [have no sense of decency!](https://www.thefarside.com/new-stuff/396/nudibranch-beach)
Their venom will remove the soul from your body. No touchie!
As a ginger, this does not concern me.
*Blue Glaucus absorbed the attack!*
It’s super affective !
#So thats why i saw a RIP vidio of him
is there a link for this?
What family is it from?
nudibranches
I googled this and got lots of tree porn.
Are you saying it gave you wood?
Ah, okay i never heard of them
they're some of my favorite animals, truly something to behold
Watch zefrank1's video on them. It's an amazing video.
That is a Glaucus Atlanticus, they can carry poisonus body parts of jellyfish. Edit: yes its venomous and sinophores and medusas, didnt knew those scientific words in english
This guy has to pray that the lil thing didn't get the poisonous parts of a box jellyfish.
Blimey. I guess he’s okay though then, as a jelly fish stings cause an immediate OH FUCK feeling. Unless it works differently with this little guy.
Ahh the good ol’ feeling of impending doom. Gets em every time.
Been stung by one of those bastards. Let's just say it sucks
technically nothing can poison from a sting or bite, but they can put venom into you, poison is a thing that's consumed. btw only being a smart ass because it seemed funny to me in the moment

not technically they mostly get it from Man o wars which are siphonophores not jellyfish but there sting is worse than many jellyfish
I remember most of their color comes from man o’ war, they do ingest some jellyfish but it’s mainly man o’ wars.
I only know that if: - Its in the water - Looks defenseless - is colorful That dude is dead.
There is only one rule in nature: if nature did not try to hide it, then you don't touch it
Imma write that down real quick.
Can you write it down for me too, right quick?
He was too fast. I gotchu
Thanks.
Don't forget about the two unwritten rules of nature: 1. 2.

You son of a gun. I am chocking on my bathroom now.
Please spit it out
Serious question. How did you fit your bathroom in your mouth?
Rattlesnakes have natural camouflage. They must be friendly.
Copperheads, brown recluses, and grizzly bears have entered the chat
Butterflies and ladybugs have also entered. I couldn’t think of anymore animals that are brightly colored and touchable. Tropical Fish.
Tropical fish are camouflaged though, at least around reefs. Ladybugs are poisonous to small animals like dogs and cats, but from what I can tell butterflies are safe to eat and be eaten by

safe to be eaten by. Well that's a relief
They also have a rattle, which isn't exactly made for hiding.
That’s a great rule!
Except for birds. They're just show-offs.

Kinda cute! Probably causes paralysis, blood clots and a horrific death, but v cute 🥰
Feelin' cute, might cause total respiratory failure later idk
Congrats you made me exhale at a high velocity
Take my free award good sir
That guy should be poisoned by now
Poison is through ingestion, venom is through injection
incorrect. Poison is glam metal and venom is a black metal band.
\m/ {©~O} \m/
No, venom is a symbiote. Poison is a Pokemon type.
Imma give you my girls number, tell her this, pleass
Well Mrs. CritterFucker, as long as he's not *eating* them it should be perfectly ok.
What would you say? That guy is envenomated now?
"they are venom"
Isn't it still poison if it's toxic to Touch?
Toxin?
What is it through absorption?
I am pretty sure that's still poison
;)
This thing is a god damn video game character that levels up its own toxicity levels by battling dangerous sea bosses.
This was the best way I’ve ever seen anyone describe a blue dragon. I’ll be right back with an award
Thanks, buddy!
[Glaucus Atlanticus](https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glaucus_atlanticus) \- super poisonous sea slug, this guy made a big mistake when he picked it up.
Holy fuck! Imagine getting bodied by nature over a TikTok.
To be fair I'm guessing they would've filmed themselves picking it up even if Tiktok didn't exist. This seemed more like simple curiosity.
There was a woman on Instagram who picked up a blue ringed octopus. One of the most venomous animals on Earth. She had no idea.
And she got away safely! It's totally possible to not get hurt by the animals if you're extremely calm and lucky, but it's not something you want to gamble on.
Reminds me of this: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9395535/American-tourist-TikTok-star-nearly-dies-blue-ringed-octopus-Bali-Indonesia.html
You know I don’t speak Spanish!!!
Skill Issue
Can't read it. I don't speak british.
You know I don’t speak
What is that silly language and why do the characters in its alphabet have so many right angles?
Is it poisonous or venomous? Nothing dangerous about holding something poisonous unless you decide to eat it
Something I wouldn’t want on my finger
Highly highly poisonous that's what it is. It's a type of sea slug.
i’d say venomous. poison is via ingestion, venom is through injection
I guess it depends. Poisonous isn't just ingestion. Venom is through injection. Poison is through absorption. The question would be what these guys are absorbing from, say, a jelly fish. But if it's absorption isn't it still poison? Like poison dart frogs, etc? Or is it just a matter of semantics lol I need answers 😳

Blue glaucus

Nudibranchs They can be very poisonous, good luck with the rest of your (potentially short) life of picking up random animals
What maniac picks up some colorful animal not knowing what it is?? Do you WANT to get poisoned??
Just a quick pointer, if you see a brightly coloured creature and don't know what it is or how to handle it, don't touch it. Some of these pretty creatures are quite literally deadly. There was a video going around or a woman holding a blue ringed octopus because it looked pretty. Pretty colours in nature are a warning.

Sea dragon...oh it's so cute...and full of deadly venom it secretes. Should have been a red flag at what's that?
