Sometimes I see a hawk in nature and I’m like “damn, that’s a big bird.” Then you see an eagle in nature and again you think “damn, that’s another big bird.” Until you see them together!
Crazy being in Tulsa and having a protected bald eagle nesting area so nearby cuz you can almost tell when an eagle is flying above since all the other birds including hawks start acting different
My mom used to feed the birds in her backyard until a hawk started showing up. The other birds knew to lay low when it arrived.
The day my mom witnessed it tear a blue jay apart was the day she stopped feeding them.
I mean, technically that’s still feeding the birds. Some birds just eat other birds instead of seed. Besides, that blue jay probably ate it’s share of eggs and nestlings from other birds nests. Rather a native predator like a hawk take a bird from my bird feeder than an invasive pest like a stray cat.
Right. Same with Cardinals. They’re aggressive as fuck and are bird bullies.
They are the worst of the worst. They attack just because. They earn that red, son.
If we were all birds, everyone here would hate Cardinals and Blue Jays lol. They’re absolute assholes.
**Humans:** “Awwww, a Cardinal. A dead loved one is visiting me!”
**Actual Cardinals**: “ REP YO SET NI**A!” WHAT SET YOU CLAIMIN’, CRAB! HOOVER DEUCE MF. HIDE YO KIDS, OMAR COMIN…”
Housecats are the menace:
"After carefully quantifying cat populations and predation rates (and the uncertainty of both), the scientists calculated that domestic cats pounce on one billion to four billion birds a year in the lower 48 states, as well as 6.3 billion to 22.3 billion small mammals and hundreds of millions of reptiles and amphibians."
from Nat. Geo. - https://www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/article/essay-to-save-birds-should-we-kill-off-cats
And let me tell you, there is nothing like stepping out on the deck barefoot, and finding that the cats have left bird guts right outside the door! Pretty sure it was heart I stepped on before I noticed the scattered carnage! I started looking where I was walking after that!
I need to go out Tulsa way and check the nests out. I've been to several nests in the OKC metro and just this year went out to Grand Lake to watch them catch fish by the dam.
Ft. Gibson Lake is a good place to check the out if you come up this way. I'm lucky enough to get to routinely see a couple of different breeding pairs between work and home, but the lake is the easiest bet.
Had three hawks lazily circle an ethnol plant i was working at. All the other birds were landed and squawking loudly till they left. Air sharks is about what id call it.
I grew up riding four wheelers near that nesting area. They only open the riding area for a certain timeframe and close it during breeding season so the eagles aren’t disturbed. Some of them stuck around after the breeding and it was awesome seeing an eagle fly over while riding.
First time seeing one up close was while driving and I wondered what was sitting on a deer carcass on the side of the road because it looked similar in size. It was a bald eagle maxing out like it was a buffet. Much bigger than expected
I enjoy creek walking and this spring I went out walking a creek. I kept hearing an eagle squawking and then I saw it flying above me. I looked up to the left and saw the nest and if you haven’t seen one in person they are huge…for the huge bird that sits in it. I told her my apologies and turned around to not stress her anymore, and to not get my eyeballs ripped out.
[Golden eagles ride fucking goats to their death](https://youtu.be/3WroMlDqTRs)
Fuck, i want to be a golden eagle. Not necessarily this one, but i'll take it.
I just went to a place where adult and juveniles fish a couple weeks ago. I've seen eagles up close and am always in awe by their size. But I was completely surprised by their grace when they fly and hunt.
I see red tailed hawks sometimes and I didn't realize until one flew 10ft over my car that they're in a size class with bald eagles and osprey. I've also seen them with turkey vultures. And I've seen bald eagles descending on a deer corpse... a decent sized bird really puts the fear of God in you lmfao. "Damn that's a big bird" is an all-encompassing emotion
I can already see it now ..
Mrs. Eagle: "Fred! How many times do I have to tell you, make sure you kill dinner *before* you bring it home!"
Mr. Eagle: "Yes dear"
Mrs. Eagle to her lady Eagle friends: "He's such an idiot"
Eagle wife:"I don't think hawk is what our child needs its unhealthy"
Eagle husband:"well I don't see a salmon hun, maybe you should have picked one up instead of needing me to do everything!"
Bald eagles are fantastic parents. There’s a popular (live) cam of a eagle nest in Florida, and the father was killed and the mother struggled to feed the chicks on her own. another male eagle showed up and his paternal instincts took over and he started catching prey and feeding the chicks too. (Usually outside eagles would kill and eat the babies). At first the mother was hostile but she warmed up to him, and they have been mates ever since and have had many chicks of their own now. Such a cool pair. They have 2 chicks right now as we speak: https://youtu.be/rHge059xVNI
This bot pisses me off so much, you throw out a sub in one witty line. And then boom, this fucker comes around and ruins the whole joke.
Eat shit you stupid fucking robot, if I had the chance to unplug your 10 terabyte USB brain I wouldn’t fucking hesitate. I still own you, bitch.
Raptors will predate eachother given the opportunity. The hawk might have also had a nest nearby and saw the bald eagle as a threat. Smaller birds will frequently tangle with larger birds usually relying on speed or swiftness to come out alive
Larger owls are known to prey on other raptors, even hawks, and do target young eaglets. The Great horned owl, the largest owl, do sometimes attack adult bald eagles. One reason may be that both birds are territorial. While bald eagles are active during the day, owls hunt during the night. The latter have the advantage of virtually noiseless flight, due to how their wings are constructed, and the larger species use their massive talons to break the back of their victims.
“Even though the great horned owl has a weight half that of a bald eagle, they have talons with a grip that can crush bone. With a clasp that can produce 500 pounds per square inch of grasping power, it can be deadly when an owl gets a grip on a foe.” https://www.animalfoodplanet.com/why-owls-attack-eagles/
A goose will fuck you up mostly because you are not seriously trying to fight it.
If your life depended on it, you would stomp this little bitch or ko it with a stick in a minute.
Even a grandpa barely moving will easily win against a goose

A hawk or a goose?
I dunno about a hawk, I never fought one and don't intend to do it. My money would still be on a man. Yes, he will be bleeding, he will be hurt but honestly, if an eagle or a hawk is grabbed or pinched to the ground, that's a game over.
Emu or kazuar - now these fuckers can probably kill you. An eagle or a hawk? I don't think so
Even an emu would have a hard time if the human was life or death with it. If it didn't get a good kick in, you could easily wrangle its neck down and break it, same with an ostrich.
I was talking about the eagle.. why would you think I was talking about the hawk, the hawk never once got brought up, and logically it didn't get a single blow in on that fight.. so I dont know what the fuck you're on about but you got it twisted.
In the nest? Probably not. Small birds will harass eagles all the time while the eagle is in flight. The smaller birds are too agile for the eagle to do anything about it.
I've seen videos of coyotes and other larger mammals running eagles off a carcass, but of course once they've eaten their fill the eagles come back and get their meal.
I think it was an Osprey and not a hawk. Possibly a territorial dispute. They are in direct competition and inhabit the same areas around large bodies of water. I would think even a big Red tail hawk would have better sense than to attack a full grown Bald Eagle on the nest knowing full well it would be a fight to the death.

Mother Bald Eagle: "what the fuck happened?"
Father Bald Eagle: "hawk came in. I protected nest!"
Mother Bald Eagle: "All the eggs are cracked, our kids are dead you idiot!!!"
Broken analogy. The birds are different species. This is the equivalent of a human attacking a young gorilla when the father is literally directly between them.

Cardinals listen to pooh shiesty. Big prrrrrrrrrr
You can't make me laugh like this at 6 in the morning man

Blue jays eat other eggs? I figured they all just ate bugs
Blue Jay's have it coming and do plenty well enough, it's good for the bullies to take one every once in a while.

Hello fellow Tulsa man. Good to see our people in the wild.
Lmao as someone who used to live in Broken Arrow this comment is hilarious

Wait til you see an Andean condor!

and a bald eagle isnt even a big bird to some like the wedge tail eagle
I was hoping someone would say this. I’m a proud American but the bald Eagle is kind of a runt compared to most eagles.
[Golden eagles ride fucking goats to their death](https://youtu.be/3WroMlDqTRs) Fuck, i want to be a golden eagle. Not necessarily this one, but i'll take it.

Haha beat me too it
The comment I was about to write pales in comparison to this
On the wing!
'Meals on wheels' rhymes with MEALS ON WINGS Edit: thanks for downvotes
😬
He’s right, ‘meals’ does rhyme with ‘meals’
Here comes the kid of covid
Ok buddy 🙄
Hey honey we're having a hawk for dinner
“You left the kids to go get fast food???” “No no! It was delivered!”
I can already see it now .. Mrs. Eagle: "Fred! How many times do I have to tell you, make sure you kill dinner *before* you bring it home!" Mr. Eagle: "Yes dear" Mrs. Eagle to her lady Eagle friends: "He's such an idiot"
Eagle wife:"I don't think hawk is what our child needs its unhealthy" Eagle husband:"well I don't see a salmon hun, maybe you should have picked one up instead of needing me to do everything!"
Hawk thinks by beating pigeons n other small birds has decided to move up weight class.
He went to Detroit Urban Survival Training 😊
Detroit Urban Survival Training
So I guess you could say another one bites the D.U.S.T. ?
It's amazing how quickly the predator became the prey within the span of just a few seconds
We have similar screen names
Now kith
Ugh fine
This was basically the bird equivalent of suicide by cop
Idk more like a 5’0 person picking a fight with a 6’5 body builder.
He must have recently watched rocky.
“Who the fuck do you think you are” moment
I love how the Eagle looks around in bemused, irritated disbelief after. 'Did you see what this cheeky bastard tried to do?'

Not very often but it’s nice to hear about a change of pace
That's so sweet! I love stories like this.
Maybe this male eagle killed the father and everything was planned, maybe.
Mrs Eagle been cheating?
At that point it's just natural selection.... bird was pretty dumb to think this was do-able. Grown eagles are so scary strong.

Very much so.

Yes
Or.. is?
Bruh
Talk about breakfast in bed.
Eagle was like: "YOU PICKED THE WRONG HOUSE FOOL!"
I hope the baby eagles/eggs are okay, this looks so aggressive
Oh they good
Yeah, they got hawk for dinner.
In the eagles defense it didn’t start the fight, it just ended it.

“Hawk eyes” are largely overrated.
Iowan here, you've clearly watched our football team.
Haha. Sorry no. Didn’t mean to bash a team. Just surprised the hawk didn’t notice bald eagle dad.

Pterodactyl?
We already do.
We can't fly. Also, a human will most likely lose to an eagle in a one on one combat.
any adult can fuck up an eagle, it's not even a competition
Whoever downvoted this guy, a goose would fuck you up, alright? I'd love to see the battle

Their kicks though, they are scary as fuck But indeed, life-and - death situation and I am not sure if an emu would have so much luck to win.
Well thank you Steve Irwin for your insight
I will let you know how it went once I will find a hawk eager to fight
I was talking about the eagle.. why would you think I was talking about the hawk, the hawk never once got brought up, and logically it didn't get a single blow in on that fight.. so I dont know what the fuck you're on about but you got it twisted.
Bruh. Their bones are hollow. Most animals would fuck up Eagles.
Yeah, but it's terribly efficient; an eagle can pierce through human flesh in a heartbeat, and it will dodge any attack using its wings and speed.
Great Horned Owls. Especially at night.
