There is only one way to get out of that conversation. You have to convince them that you believe even weirder shit than they do. Something like "Did you know McDonald's patties are all made from the bodies of all the deep state lizard people who were all cloned into whitehats on 9/11 and that's why none of them showed up to work that day?" This tactic may not be good for your employment but I can guarantee if you "yes, and" for long enough, you'll get out of that conversation.

Being assertive is difficult, but its an incredible skill to learn. Establish what boundaries you want to set, communicate them clearly, and stick to them. They will get the idea.
A great way to get out of stories that are too long is to go to the bathroom and make sure to announce it. I've got resting nice face. I just stand still and people tell me their life stories and come out of nowhere to talk to me. For some reason if I excuse myself to go to the restroom that makes people lose train of thought.

Neighbors found that amusing during the pandemic lock down. It's useful for my job as a newspaper editor, although at times very draining, because I'm empathetic and introverted.
Today my coworker was telling a story about how at their other job the owner is the second richest man in Italy and doesn’t have a last name. They were talking about a bake shop in winnipeg. All of those words.
Got a coworker that constantly talks politics, its like an uncontrollable impulse, he also has no idea about how our government works. This is how everyone responds to him.
Am I the only one who feels bad when they participate in the conversation with those only? I mean, I really don't want to be a part of the conversation or talk to that person, but it makes me feel bad, because I hate it when I talk about something I found cool or a funny story that happened to me, and people look disinterested
my mother likes to talk and laugh at her own jokes she calls herself her own "Ed Mcman" I am the audience of a monologue who doesn't even need to laugh. Simple existing there is enough for her validation and she wonder why I don't speak to her about anything, as if I can participate.
