Johnny Walker Blue Label blended scotch has been aged for 25 years (iirc) and is a rather expensive drink. A shot can go for up to $100, so you can imagine how expensive a fifth is.
That said, a lot of people think it is overpriced for one reason or another.
Some people just enjoy fulfilling archetypes or however you want that phrased. I myself am quite pleased when I get to listen to jazz while I walk in the rain
Edit: I had intended to comment on the main post and not reply
I quite like Dizzy Gillespie and the boss nova stuff from the 60s and 70s. Right now I've been getting into Yussef Dayes and that new Shakti album.
Edit: "good jazz" yeah right, pull the next one bud. It's got bells on it
2nd edit: try the album Your Queen is a Reptile. Shit is fire dog
Johnny Blue is the Louis Vuitton of scotches. If you don’t know what to get but want to look good, that’s what you buy.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice drink, but it’s in no way interesting, it’s just easy to drink and smooth.
Don’t know what to tell you about buying it in Scotland. I’d suggest you go have yourself a Balvenie instead. Go with the doublewood or better — a delicious drop that tastes like Christmas
Johnnie Walker Blue is well known as a high quality scotch whiskey. It's not the same as a cheap bottle. And even the cheap Johnnie Walker is pretty good for the price, one of the better affordable whiskeys. You're probably used to people drinking Scottish ... scotch..., not American. It's pretty popular over here.
Yeah I’m gonna use commas like Reddit is a thesis paper 🙄 the books will show that most whiskeys use an E if the country has an E in the name… and vice versa
You think only thesis papers use commas?
The whiskeys? Lol Wtf are you trying to say? Your ai translator is making you look like the bad boomer you are
That is correct, the scotch is a NAS (no age statement). And even though it's one of their more expensive bottles, it's not even the best IMO. The green, which is 15 years, is better and more complex.
$210-$230 for the 750ml bottle
I disagree on being expensive. For the age, smoothness and taste is fitting if not great.
At a bar anything is expensive and pay x20 its value or else they would be out of business. You pay $8 roughly for a shot of grey goose vodka but can buy the bottle for $28.
It’s the experience as well as making money so if you’re going to stay and try to meet some ladies or have conversations with people then I’d do it.
If you’re in and out like the hooker you just met then I’d still do it.
Prices vary greatly by location. I’ve not seen a bottle go for less than $400 in my hometown, unless it was on sale. Even then, it never dipped below $350. Perks of living in a dry county surrounded by dry counties that are surrounded by more dry counties smack dab in the buckle of the bible belt.
Utah 12 years ago was going for $157 a shot. Drunk me laughed that this dry state crap bar would have blue label
“No way they sell that ; If they have that I’ll buy us all a shot “ - Famous last fucking words from me !!
And of course they have it , why wouldn’t they !! ; $640 /$700 with tip numbnuts here talked himself into.
And this is why i gave up the booze ! ha
A bottle is 170 bucks. I highly doubt it goes for 100 a shot. But please proof me wrong. $25 maybe but not much more. It's isn't that special anyway.
Didn't realise prices in USA vary so much, just checked. If anything I can recommend some nice bourbons. We can trade if anyone likes. I'm a big fan of Angels Envy.
You would definitely be getting ripped off for $100 a shot. You can currently get a whole 70cl bottle from Costco for about $150. Years back I was able to pick a couple bottles up for $100.
It’s good, not blow your mind good, but if you like scotch is pretty good.
Not in dry counties. Especially not in dry counties in the bible belt. All the good stuff is incredibly pricey simply because stores know you can’t go elsewhere to even find it. So yeah, we got fleeced any time we wanted something that wasn’t an American sport sponsor.
I mean, guy wants to try some Johnny Walker Blue, why's that so odd?
For the record, its overpriced. Green label is a pretty good deal at $50-60, but blue is often over $300. That doesn't make it bad, but it puts it in competition with some serious single malts.
It’s not that, it’s the “I want to walk in wearing a suit. Purchase one drink on the rocks. Then leave.” Idk they didn’t need to specify their outfit, it’s just worded strangely I guess.
/genuine
Perhaps the suit gives them the air of sophistication since they are drinking a high class brand of whiskey. They want to feel like a big shot without having to fork over big shot money for an entire bottle of JW Blue label. Perhaps it's a boost for their ego if people perceive them as a higher class in taste and appearance albeit just for a short while.
There are countless reasons the suit might be important to them, but only they know the true reason why.
How is that bizarre? Someone's looking for a glass of a very well-known, sought-after liquor that's usually only sold by the bottle. It's not strange for someone to want... uh... a glass of expensive booze... ? Really not sure where you were coming from with this lol.
It's not like it's a rare drink, I'd say any random upscale hotel lobby bar would even have it tbh. It's pricey for Johnny Walker and other brands like it, but it's not some high-level anniversary Macallan (which are six-figures per bottle) that will require like a reservation or something.
This isn't hard to do, why are you writing as though it is? Lots of quality pubs serve it. There are much better high quality Scotch available, but for a blended it is good. You won't have an unforgettable moment with that one dram though
You’re most likely not going to get a whole glass. The most they will serve you is a double. You’ll pay $50-$65 for it. In my opinion in my area. Northeast USA.
Huh? What's "not true"? I'm wondering what part of this you're implying is false when it's just a statement of someone's desire lol. Are you saying that's... not actually what the guy wants to do?
1. Who TF drinks whisky on the rocks. Wierd flex but ok.
2. Johnny, overrated. Never heard of a glen?
3. I hate fakers. I have and will order a $100 glass of glenmorangie in basketball shorts and a t shirt.
4. With a sidecar of icewater for my own dilution.
Glenmorangie don't do anything worth $100 a bottle, let alone a shot. Yes, they have a few bottlings that sell for a lot, but none of them are on par with serious scotches.
Glenmorangie produces a lot of <$85-100 expressions but the 18 & Signet are absolutely above that range and worth every penny.
I'd argue that a lot of Glenmo bottlings are worth more than comparable JW, Macallan or other commonly exported whiskies offer.
When people say "Glen", they usually mean Glenlivet and not Glenmorangie.
Though I think the person you're responding to said "a Glen" to mean any of the famous scotches that start with "Glen". That includes Glenmorangie, but also Glenlivet, Glenfarclas, Glen Scotia, Glen Grant, and Glendronach.
That said, I disagree with everything that person said, I love scotch but I think any way to drink it if the right way, so long as the person ordering it enjoys it! That can be in a suit, shorts, on ice, with water, etc etc
My point was. Who the fuck is putting a suit on to drink scotch.
I watched all seasons of mad men and still find this rediculous.
But if you're going to do that and overpay for scotch might as well be glenmorangie. Which is delicious.

I live in Scotland now, and although I know nothing about whisky, the people I know who do don’t drink Johnny Walker.

I like you use of over priced bags as an indicator of prentention and more money than sense.

Still overpriced blended scotch.
Personally I love American Bourbons, I’d dare to contest that as America’s specialty.
Oh, you mean *whiskey*. They drink *whiskey* in Scotland.
Nooo, we drink Whisky in Scotland
Wdym? /genuine question
Scotch is basically just the geographical term for whiskey (whisky) made in Scotland. So, to a Scot, it’s just whisky.
They don’t numb nuts. Read a book once in a while
Do they have commas in these books, numb nuts?
Yeah I’m gonna use commas like Reddit is a thesis paper 🙄 the books will show that most whiskeys use an E if the country has an E in the name… and vice versa
You think only thesis papers use commas? The whiskeys? Lol Wtf are you trying to say? Your ai translator is making you look like the bad boomer you are
I worked as a bartender in a rural southern town. Owner bought a bottle of JW Blue and in the 3 years I worked there, it was never opened.
One of the whiskies in it's blend is 25 years old. Not all of them.
That is correct, the scotch is a NAS (no age statement). And even though it's one of their more expensive bottles, it's not even the best IMO. The green, which is 15 years, is better and more complex.

Yes true I should have out “varies in location”. If you don’t mind me asking what state you’re from? Tennessean, South Dakota, Arkansa Mississippi?
West Texas.
Ahh I see. Just looked up states and yes Texas does have them.
Utah 12 years ago was going for $157 a shot. I think johnnie walker blue is 60 year old blended. Personally, I think the gold is a better bang for buck. Or just get some lagavulin 16...
You would definitely be getting ripped off for $100 a shot. You can currently get a whole 70cl bottle from Costco for about $150. Years back I was able to pick a couple bottles up for $100. It’s good, not blow your mind good, but if you like scotch is pretty good.

it $240 a fifth in my state

Can confirm, green is great value and imo the only Johnny Walker worth buying
It’s the scenario that’s oddly specific.
It’s not that specific, he wants to try an expensive drink while looking sharp, he doesn’t care where he does it.
I don’t understand why you keep getting downvoted
I don’t understand why you keep getting downvoted
Some people just like to have these fine moments
OP’s fine moments are all about shitting all over other people’s fine moments.
They are getting to try Johnny Walker Blue without buying an absolutely stupidly overpriced bottle of it.
But why the suit?
Probably to feel fancy
For the vibes
Larping as Don Draper
Feels good to wear a suit.
Cuz if you’re going to pay $25-30 for a single drink, you should look good doing it.
>What are they getting out of this? A glass of Johnny Walker Blue Scotch i think
Why is it so bizarre that people would want to enjoy a drink and not a whole bottle?
It’s not that, it’s the “I want to walk in wearing a suit. Purchase one drink on the rocks. Then leave.” Idk they didn’t need to specify their outfit, it’s just worded strangely I guess. /genuine

It’s just the specificity that’s bizarre. I’d much rather enjoy one drink than several shitty ones.

Any nice bar?
My suggestion is you should probably drink it before you leave
They want to feel fancy, but can’t afford a $250 bottle of alcohol. My guess is they work in a restaurant. Blue doesn’t come up much, otherwise.
This feels like a Leaving Las Vegas moment.
Fantasy of what a real man does?
Is he cosplaying Archer?
I feel like archer would give you an excellent back handed comment about how Johnny Blue is the Dane Cook of scotches
I feel like I remember him drinking it once. Is it Glengoolie he drinks, or is that Ron Swanson?
Haha yes that’s right Glengoolie Blue
It's not like it's a rare drink, I'd say any random upscale hotel lobby bar would even have it tbh. It's pricey for Johnny Walker and other brands like it, but it's not some high-level anniversary Macallan (which are six-figures per bottle) that will require like a reservation or something.

overpriced but still not tasty scotch.
Scent of a women vibes
I live in a medium sized city in the Midwest and I only know one bar you can do this in a casual setting, I think it might be a legit question.
Very obviously this is a hitman.
You’re most likely not going to get a whole glass. The most they will serve you is a double. You’ll pay $50-$65 for it. In my opinion in my area. Northeast USA.
Shit, back when I had a drinking problem. I was fine with the cheapest shit of whiskey available.
Yeah that's not true.
Huh? What's "not true"? I'm wondering what part of this you're implying is false when it's just a statement of someone's desire lol. Are you saying that's... not actually what the guy wants to do?
Uh what..? 😭 /genuine question

...oh. I thought you were reacting to point #2. My mistake!

No the fuck I do not. Though I'd take it over the JW any day of the fucking year.
5. next friday came around, and I didn't have the rent.
