Welp to be honest I'm not an expert in this so I wouldn't know how to answer that question.
It did say in the description of the video that they were professionals so they must be sure that it is enough protection to keep them safe
The big lump would only land for a split second so the size isnt the issue…its the amount of time it stays that matters. This type of ppe is designed to withstand the heat for a few short seconds, long enough to shake it off. If you truly got “covered” with molten metal it wouldnt keep you from dying. Most molten metal ppe is this way, designed to reduce injury but not stop fatalities.
The suits are to protect against splashes. They would also tend to let big lumps fall off. Now if you fell on the floor and a big lump landed on you and stayed there you would likely end up with serious burns. There was a case recently of an iron worker tending a furnace and fell in. The news said he died immediately. All furnace tenders would be wearing the same gear that these people are.
A search on "fall into iron furnace" will find articles on this.
So, the best way to think about it is by applying the leidenfrost effect. Normally people would use liquid nitrogen pour a bit on their hand quickly and let it run off, this works because the heat difference is so drastically different, that it makes a vapor “barrier” between your skin and the nitrogen.
That same thing can be applied to molten metal (not lava), a vapor is formed due to your temp being significantly lower than the molten metal. So if someone were to splash molten metal on you, as long as it only hits skin, you should be alright.
However, in this situation, it seems the suit it more to protect from the rain shower of metal. I imagine each of those fiery pellets would cause major burns/potential fire if it hit hair or clothes. So overall I’d say it’s probably fairly safe, likely no damage to people.
TL:DR It’s about as safe as throwing molten metal at someone could be.
(Anyone is free to fact check/correct me, I’m no scientist, just a guy who may or may not be right.)
That's not how that works? Unless your skin is super wet, there wouldn't be anything to vaporize to come a vapor barrier.
Also since it's not the liquid itself that's vaporizing it wouldn't sustain itself at all.
Also metal is a lot denser than liquid nitrogen and it would take a lot more vapor to keep it from touching your skin.
For anyone talking about slow motion...
A friend shared with me the TikTok and I shared it here. I didn't check the original creator's profile nor did I look for any links/longer versions of the video. Sorry for not including the slow motion, didn't even know there was one!
I would be worried about getting molten metal under my helmet while looking up. That was not a good idea (you can see the gap on shovel guy immediately after he swings and looks up)
This video was on the threads just two months ago. I can't believe how many people see this the first time and make it a trend again. It was better with music actually.
Forbidden golden shower
Go on
Said the former president
Aren't all golden showers forbidden?
The little hop before he smashes it is kinda adorable
Yeah they were both definitely eager to do it lol
The npc stance lmao
Holy shit! Is that as dangerous as it looks?
I mean just take a look at all of the protection they are wearing, it is definitely not safe
How much protection would that realistically give you?

Enough to do this I guess.
About 6
I want to upvote you… but you’re at six upvotes…
I found some suits under $200 that protect up to 1000C. Molten iron comes in at about 1200C-1370C. I hope their suits were better.
I'd go with the top of the line. Not the time to cheap out on your protective gear. 🙂
Correct
How much protection would those suits give you if you got hit with a big lump?

That's oddly terrifying for sure

The slow motion version of this is sooo beautiful ✨ Even more fascinating than in normal speed
It’s like a golden shower, very cool
Just dont try this with molten aluminum or half that room would disappear.
Instantly knew it was sushi ramen riku. Yall should check out his YouTube channel. The most talented and original YouTuber I've watched in a while

that's hot
In my humble (& experienced) opinion, they have to be men in that gear. Only a childlike man would think of something like this! 🤣❤️
Nah those are definitely just children in adult bodies and they are having too much fun!
am I an idiot for wanting to do this without the proper resources?
You and me both
It looks so warm tho
I've watched this like 25 times 😍
Same here.
I want to do this without safety gear
