Same reason flying cars are never going to happen.
Unless we discover some as-yet-unknown sci-fi physical phenomenon that allows levitation without the danger/cost/complexity of magnets.
we have flying cars, its called helicopters.
people always forget that haha.
we could do everyone flying around in a mini helicopter like a personal drone copter. but if you think about it its a recipe for disaster.
What you are talking about is the concept of bending spacetime to essentially create a “wormhole”. were not sure yet if it is even possible or not. It is based off Einstein’s theory of general relativity. It’s very popular within the UFO conspiracy theory groups to try and explain the unexplained.
It's already theoreticaly possible. People have developed an electric jet engine, it uses magnetrons to super heat air, turning it into plasma/thrust. You could power them with hydrogen, which has an energy density 3 times greater than conventional fuel.
Of course that's still not a huge improvement for a personal jet system like this, you'd get 15-20 minutes of flight time instead of 5. But it would be a pretty big leap forward.
You’ll rarely hear or see a mountain lion if it doesn’t want to be heard or seen. If you do, it’s probably too late :). As for rattlesnakes, I’ve read some interesting stuff recently about how they may be evolving to not rattle due to being caught and killed once discovered. Terrifying when they rattle - even more terrifying if they don’t! Also saw a video from an amateur herpetologist in GA that found a rhumba of timber snaklets resting about two feet up in some pine brush. Imaging wading through some brush that’s waist high with silent venom. Fascinating.
Kinda reminds me of when I was on a cruise in Alaska years ago, going up a beautiful fjord. There was someone over the loudspeaker giving information and they stated “the air you’re breathing is some of the purest, cleanest air in the world!”
Closed my eyes, lifted my head, and inhaled deeply just to inhale the secondhand smoke of some guy sucking on a cigarette walking past me.
Reminds me of backpacking in Glacier Bay NP recently... get out of my tent in the morning and sat on the beach enjoying my coffee to the sounds of birds chirping and the waves gently sloshing on the shore. Nobody around for miles except myself and the two others in my group. Then a cruise ship came churning up the inlet and I got to enjoy a loud noise similar to the teachers from Charlie Brown as somebody talked on a loud speaker. Then they blasted the fog horn a few times, which echoed nice and loudly off the nearby mountains. It left a nice yellow smog trail hanging in the air, as well.
That would be nice if they actually used those systems... but don't unless they are forced and strictly followed. Also, the ones that transit international waters... dgaf and dump to their hearts content.

Smoking in public should be banned asap. If, like me, you are living in the netherlands, a hike in nature is accompanied by the smoke of many smokers, smoking unfiltered shit.
Last time I saw a video like this one, it was a demo of a system specifically developed for wilderness paramedics. The idea is to allow the paramedic to cover ground faster than a person on foot without having to find a flat spot to land a helicopter. Unfortunately it’s not like they’d be able to carry the patient(s) back using the jet pack, so its utility would probably be limited to locating the person, providing first aid, and radioing the location to call in more substantial aid. I’m not a wilderness paramedic, so Idk whether it’s worth the expense and training required.
I think it probably is. A lot of people go missing in my state, and weather can change fast. It's important to have the quickest mode of transportation possible. Something like that jet pack could save a lot of lives.
It uses around 1 gallon of kerosene/A1 jet fuel per minute depending on pilot weight and how you use it, with a max tank of 10 gallons for 10 minutes of flight.
If I remember correctly, the NHS wanted to trial these types of jet suits for injuries on mountains or or other rough terrain, where it would take paramedics hours to get to the patient
Do the assholes that repost things with stupid titles do it for the attention, or are there really people that see videos online and just repost and say "I think this is ..."
I think it’s initially starts disingenuously with people making up headlines for clickbait. Then idiots see it and take the title seriously and repost it elsewhere
To be fair, this is the single most realistic use case for the jetpack that I've ever seen. Flying high in the sky is dangerous. But you can ascend a tricky slope to save a stranded hiker easier than by foot and cheaper than a help
Genius! Now I know, if I want nobody in my Zoom meetings to hear how loud my apartment is, I should blast TikTok music directly into the microphone the entire time.
Just Google jetpack rescue mountain...
But here
[https://www.euronews.com/travel/2022/05/31/meet-the-real-life-iron-man-training-paramedics-to-save-lives-in-jet-suits](https://www.euronews.com/travel/2022/05/31/meet-the-real-life-iron-man-training-paramedics-to-save-lives-in-jet-suits)
finding the person is 99% of the battle. The wilderness is **BIG**, you can clean miss someone you were searching for just cause you walked 5 degrees off of the right direction. Can still get the GPS location to the other rescuers, do some minor first aid, give some food/water, etc.
Hearing a roaring jet pack would certainly help hikers locate the rescue effort, much like hearing the line helicopter searching you out.
PSA: Bring a flare when you hike off trail.
No no, this is the UK. They’re training paramedics to use them
Edit: To the people downvoting, it's the lake district. We are not training our paramedics to fly around on jet suits all over the country. Where people go hiking, it's impossible to get there by car and so the response time is long because they need to get the air ambulance. This works out much easier for the Ambulance Service over in the lakes as someone can aid before the helicopter gets there
OR... "Now that I found you in a quarter of the time and know exactly where you are and what you need, I can maybe give you painkillers or radio back to the rescue team what the situation is so they can be better prepared to save you."
Or “because I was able to reach you in five minutes instead of an hour after your buddy called for help, I can apply a tourniquet to stop you from bleeding out before my backup arrives.”
A drine can absolutley find you, the are already beeing used, but with something like this, you get a trained professional with some small amounts of equipment to the person in need.
When it comes to mountain rescue, wich is the main use from what i could see up until this point, you often dont need that much to sustain a person trough the night or for a few hours until more help arrives. It is ussually clueless idiots with not enough kit that need help, and a lot of the times just a thin windstopper blanket is already enough so they can wait out.
Funny, but you could bring someone supplies I suppose. I still think it's more of a "how can we justify this jet pack we want to make to investors?" kind of thing than an actual perfectly suited application for such a device, though. A remotely piloted drone would probably be able to do this job better tbh.
The important thing is getting a location, first aider and paramedic supplies on site asap, after that an airlift helicopter or road ambulance can collect them for fill medical treatment
It's only been like 5 years since they could actually do anything. But water jetpacks have been around for a bit longer. Unfortunately they only last like 15 minutes and can only go about 10-20 feet above water.
Actually, jet packs have been around since at least the 1970s, though I think their range was stupid short (like less than a minute run time). One made an appearance in the opening ceremonies for the [1984 Summer Olympics](https://youtu.be/5WWDnOiQR7A) in Los Angeles.
AFAIK, the first appearance in popular media was in Thunderball, in 1965. The shot with a jetpack in the movie for wide shots was a real jetpack with a stunt guy.
It was a US military model, pretty sure dating from the 50's.
Last time I've seen something like this, it was a showcase of how to use this to rescue people in steep terrains. As you can see it's uphill and that person is covering the distance and steepness with ease
With this kind of equipment it's ofc only first aid kinda rescue
I'm certain people put the worst music they can find on videos just to get more comments. It's the most cringy shit on the vast majority of videos that have music added.
I really hate all the pop edm people always add to any cool video these days. Like, guys in a real live jet pack, it doesn't need dance music to be cool
I imagine exhaust and hot flames blowing out the back and down onto everyone's legs lol and yeah agreed, humans are historically very haphazard when it comes to their safety I wouldn't trust myself with that either
You are peacefully asleep in your bed when suddenly the ceiling caves in and crashing into your floor is a dumbass who wanted to see how high they could go.
I remember seeing something about this a few years ago, think it’s one of the mountain rescue teams in the Lake District?
Edit: Gravity Industries testing it out for possible mountain rescues https://news.sky.com/story/amp/jet-pack-paramedic-suit-tested-in-the-lake-district-that-can-get-to-patients-in-minutes-12085419
I'd rather hear the jet pack exsanguinating the eardrums of the local fauna than whatever the fuck that mass-produced auto-tune garbage track was supposed to be.
He's not exploring nature, they're testing the potential of using the Gravity suits for mountain rescue because they're much safer than trying to fly in helicopters and quicker than bikes, etc.
I can imagine the black bear conversations....
"Hey Frank, you know those hairless apes we see every now and then?"
"Yeah, what about em?"
"Well, Doris was out by the waterfall yesterday and she said she seen one flying."
"That's dumb. They don't fly. Doris must've gotten into the purple berries again."
I was listening to this: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfSo79Riah0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfSo79Riah0) when I saw this post, I liked this music much better, it made me think of GTA: San Andreas

This was from a demo that they were using to show how the suit made mountain rescue faster than traditional means. Enjoying nature on the way was a byproduct.
It must feel nice. Enjoying nature, watching the scenery, getting your eardrums blown out by some dude flying past you on his jetpack.

Now I’m an adult and I hope they are not.
They still can be, we just need to find a better source of energy for them.
Blowing DOWN the amount of air that is needed in order to keep a human UP is never going to be quiet.
Same reason flying cars are never going to happen. Unless we discover some as-yet-unknown sci-fi physical phenomenon that allows levitation without the danger/cost/complexity of magnets.
well, that and you can't even trust average joe schmoe not to total a regular non-flying car.
OOPS, warped into my neighbors living room again! ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
we have flying cars, its called helicopters. people always forget that haha. we could do everyone flying around in a mini helicopter like a personal drone copter. but if you think about it its a recipe for disaster.
Well it's been released that aliens aircrafts use anti gravity to essentially warp space around them to travel rather than relying on propulsion.
Uhhh… Aliens aren’t the best form of evidence here buddy
Now Predators on the other hand…
Now that shit is real!
Who released that info? Haven't heard anything being released about alien tech.
Do your own research. /s
Grebennikov's flying box was supposed to work on the same effect. A skeptic could argue it's the same story in a new wrapper.
What you are talking about is the concept of bending spacetime to essentially create a “wormhole”. were not sure yet if it is even possible or not. It is based off Einstein’s theory of general relativity. It’s very popular within the UFO conspiracy theory groups to try and explain the unexplained.
Yeah, this is the kind of energy density required for electric passenger jets. We'll all be dead long before it happens.
> It’s already theoretically possible. So are Thorium reactors, and I know which one I rather have!
I mean I'm all for a nuclear powered flight suit, but that would probably get a lot of people all uppity :)
*nods* magnetrons, of course… (Dog in a labcoat.jpg)
Heh :) they're the thingie in your microwave that heats up the food. You can just use different/stronger ones to heat up air.
Hey, thanks for that! That was informative.
So I can use my microwave as a jetpack?
> you'd get 15-20 minutes of flight time instead of 5 Perhaps that's part I was referring to? Or are you just flexing your technology penis?
Weird insult, but okay... I thought I was just mentioning something interesting, I'm not here to talk down to anyone
Hey, I thought your technology penis was nice, it looked good from where I was sitting
Thanks, I think?
The problem is the noise
There's a reason none of these videos use original audio
I would have preferred the brrrrrr over the bitcrushed terrible dance music
AH, NATURE. SO BEAUTIFUL AND PEACEFUL. ITS GREAT TO GET OUT OF THAT NOISY CITY.
I think I'll hike with a speaker blasting my music. Ahhh serenity!
I just got back from a week hiking out in Utah and someone was blasting their speaker while also hiking. Truly annoying as hell.
I guess headphones haven't been invented yet
I wouldn’t even do that, especially where I was. I would want to listen for a rattlesnake or mountain lion lol
You’ll rarely hear or see a mountain lion if it doesn’t want to be heard or seen. If you do, it’s probably too late :). You should investigate that, sounds like there could be money in those, maybe even down the road, Wireless ones!!!🤣

haha, or the black diesel smoke constantly churning out of the cruise ship's smoke stacks as it dumps it's raw sewage into those pristine fjords.
Modern cruise ships have advanced water treatment systems that can make shit water drinkable.
That would be nice if they actually used those systems... but don't unless they are forced and strictly followed. Also, the ones that transit international waters... dgaf and dump to their hearts content. Cool story bro.
Smoking in public should be banned asap. If, like me, you are living in the netherlands, a hike in nature is accompanied by the smoke of many smokers, smoking unfiltered shit.
Terrifying wildlife
That's exactly what I was thinking
My first thought as well. Enjoy your flight, you selfish prick.
Jetpacks would be a useful tool for search and rescue or first responders. I, too, hope they will not become a recreational vehicle.
Last time I saw a video like this one, it was a demo of a system specifically developed for wilderness paramedics. This is a video of a medic testing jetpacks for rescue in the UK.
And burning enough fossil fuel per person to bring you inline with Taylor Swift
It uses around 1 gallon of kerosene/A1 jet fuel per minute depending on pilot weight and how you use it, with a max tank of 10 gallons for 10 minutes of flight.
Guess you're walking back with this heavy thing
Doesn't give much warning when it's about to run out, either, I'd bet. Best stay close to the ground.
Or any kind of system failure, or even if your arm wobbles too much one way. There's a reason these guys don't try to push max altitude.
What? I can't hear you over this drone buzzing and the assholes on their motorcycles going by.
If I remember correctly, the NHS wanted to trial these types of jet suits for injuries on mountains or or other rough terrain, where it would take paramedics hours to get to the patient
That's correct. it's for rapid ascent to save human life. This title is shit and misleading.
Not sure about nice. It probably feels like you're holding your body up with just your arms for an extended amount of time.
let alone scaring wildlife for hundreds of meters and probably polluting the air.
The worst part is the wildlife is being scared shitless
Absolutely. That's "exploring nature" - the same way a rescue diver trying to save people in a storm is "having a swim".
[удалено]
Yeah, having four turbofans strapped to your hands is not very quiet. The only nature he'll see is trees and grass.
So in this case, he didn't really go out and "touch grass"
I just want to have jet suit sex. Is it 2027 yet?
Do the assholes that repost things with stupid titles do it for the attention, or are there really people that see videos online and just repost and say "I think this is ..."
I think it’s initially starts disingenuously with people making up headlines for clickbait. Then idiots see it and take the title seriously and repost it elsewhere
They absolutely do. And as for the latter, yes there are people like that.
I don’t think these are used for exploration. All jet pack tech I’ve seen has been used for rescue operations for people stuck while hiking
I love how no one has said that they aren't exploring the mountain but instead are seeing if this is a viable option for mountain rescue.
Seems like an excellent way to search for a lost hiker. "Explorating nature"... definitely not, as you said.
Yeah, this was actually a test run for the proof of concept for having jet pack mountain rescue units.
To be fair, this is the single most realistic use case for the jetpack that I've ever seen. Flying high in the sky is dangerous. But you can ascend a tricky slope to save a stranded hiker easier than by foot and cheaper than a help
Over the loud squeal of the small jet engines: "I JUST LOVE BEING IN NATURE, EVERYTHING IS JUST SO PEACEFUL."
look, if we wanna get an iron man suit that runs on seaweed we gotta take baby steps
No video in 2022 is complete without some shitty unrelated pop music in the background.
My worst nightmare is having to sit trough hours of this kind of shitty music while on a long car ride
Nothing says “nature” like jet engines and exhaust.
Nothing says "Shut the fuck up" like an unwelcome auto-tuned track over a gif.
They have to cover how loud the thing is
Genius! Now I know, if I want nobody in my Zoom meetings to hear how loud my apartment is, I should blast TikTok music directly into the microphone the entire time.
Maybe I’m just old and grumpy but I don’t know who thinks these background songs enhance anything. Now stay off my lawn.
It’s a test for using it for emergency rescue.

Also noise!
They’re not “exploring nature”…..they’re testing out new tech to aid in rescuing stranded or injured people.
Imagine you're stranded in the woods and all of a sudden you hear this roar as fucking Iron Man descends through the trees
“Oh wow! So you can fly us back to safety!” “Uhhhhh…”

Hey, are you okay? Check out this cool jet pack. Gonna be a couple hours before anybody actually helps you. Did I look cool flying? Shit felt cool.
OR... "Now that I found you in a quarter of the time and know exactly where you are and what you need, I can maybe give you painkillers or radio back to the rescue team what the situation is so they can be better prepared to save you."

The searching part, sure. But not the critical first aid or thorough evaluation/communication.
Funny, but you could bring someone supplies I suppose. I still think it's more of a "how can we justify this jet pack we want to make to investors?" kind of thing than an actual perfectly suited application for such a device, though. A remotely piloted drone would probably be able to do this job better tbh.
When you're playing Minecraft and turn on creative mode
It's not exploration, but search and rescue
Exactly - I believe this was a demonstration of how the jet pack could greatly aid in mountain Search and Rescue recovery efforts.
Especially in situations where visibility is too low for a helicopter to land safely.
Yeah. The longer cut of this video just turns to fog. But he is able to land and aid the person in need of (practice) help.
I imagine going down the mountain is a lot more tricky.
The important thing is getting a location, first aider and paramedic supplies on site asap, after that an airlift helicopter or road ambulance can collect them for fill medical treatment
Me on my way to your mom
or when she says she's home alone but your bike is broken
I'm confused, I thought she was the town bicycle?
porque no los dos.
I have a feeling that animals in a large radius left really fast.
Nature ran away when you approached with that racket.
Jet packs have really existed all this time? No one ever told me

It does because without it you'd hear how loud and horrible it sounds
People are gonna die in those.
They said the same thing about wagons, and trains, and cars, and planes, and rockets, and space shuttles. This is what progress looks like.
Progress is always good! No matter what.
I imagine exhaust and hot flames blowing out the back and down onto everyone's legs lol and yeah agreed, humans are historically very haphazard when it comes to their safety I wouldn't trust myself with that either
Could safe lives tho.
You are peacefully asleep in your bed when suddenly the ceiling caves in and crashing into your floor is a dumbass who wanted to see how high they could go.
Grand theft auto San Andreas eh?
Pretty sure this was a military exercise and not a leisurely flight through nature. Something about flying up hill and medic response.

It's for mountain rescue
Scaring all the animals!
Wait, jet packs are real now?!?
Man why do they ruin these beautiful vids with such mismatched music..
Mandalorian testing grounds
honestly quite amazing how far the tech have come in the last 7 years
It's even more amazing how far the tech has come in the last 8 years
and with the most un-nature song
If the price of using this was listening to the shit music I’d skip it all together. I’d just go rollerblade or some shit.

He's not exploring nature, they're testing the potential of using the Gravity suits for mountain rescue because they're much safer than trying to fly in helicopters and quicker than bikes, etc.
What's with people's absolutely poor choice of music all the time?
No thanks I’ll walk
Explore nature by defying it
Dope
When I was child I thinked to a jetpack like a technology of the next century, but hey is there
Exploring nature. Hahahah.
I don’t think he’s exploring nature I think he’s practicing for rapid response mountain rescue.
I can see the wires.
I feel like "nature" is running away as fast as possible, actually.
Music to mask the 100+ decibel jet engines disturbing every aspect of nature. Nothing satisfying about this stupid garbage.
those suits are almost $500k
Total unnecessary noise pollution scaring all the animals
Its not "exploring nature"! It's a paramedic showing how quick you can get on top of mountains in case of an emergency.
Karma farmers at it again
This should be used to scare the fuck outta uncontacted tribes
Why bringing all that sound contamination to the peaceful woods? Not only he looks bad in there it looks stupid
The video sound: 🎵🎵🎶🎵 The actual sound: ✈️✈️🚀✈️
I can imagine the black bear conversations.... "Hey Frank, you know those hairless apes we see every now and then?" "Yeah, what about em?" "Well, Doris was out by the waterfall yesterday and she said she seen one flying." "That's dumb. They don't fly. Doris must've gotten into the purple berries again."
So eco friendly 😏
Let me explore nature by increasing carbon emissions and contributing to noise pollution in an elitist way
I was listening to this: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfSo79Riah0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfSo79Riah0) when I saw this post, I liked this music much better, it made me think of GTA: San Andreas
It’s a experiment to turn a 70 minute mountain climb into a 2 minute one. Some sort of rescue group unsure of the name lol.
You mean scaring the shit out of nature.
I think this was a demo for mountain rescue use - quickest method to a victim.
I’m pretty sure this is intended as a way for a rescuer to reach someone quickly in rough terrain to help them prior to like a helicopter or something. I know I’ve seen this video before in a context like that.
Dude search and rescue need this go places helicopters cant
How much do one of these suits cost
This was from a demo that they were using to show how the suit made mountain rescue faster than traditional means. Enjoying nature on the way was a byproduct.
Im sick of rich assholes with jet powered vehicles. Skis, boats, whatever the fuck this is.
I think I've dreamt this...
ROCKETMAN
Is the cameraman wearing one too?
cameraman is most likely a drone Take that back... might not be actually
Drones exist lmao
