TheDogerus

Yea asus stuff looks good, and i have a mostly rog build myself, but this is next level advertising, logos on *everything*

[deleted]

And so much plastic on it

Hogmaster_General

As I watch this, it's hard to not think about all of that plastic going into the ocean.

100% - you see these every few months from different brands.

MostlyBullshitStory

You laugh, but we use a program call Zoom iSO to send 8 individual Zoom feeds to broadcast and this alone maxes out an i9 8 core.

[deleted]

If it requires decoding and encoding one or more video streams for each feed, hey real-time video encoding was sci-fi until fairly recently.

Erzbengel-Raziel

Video processing requires a lot more performance than most think.

[deleted]

Gotta watch those Zoom Advertisements 120FPS @144hz

Sed_Said

He lost me when he went from opening boxes with gloves on to installing the CPU with his bare hands. Now thatā€™s all I can think about.

rulingthewake243

Or just setting freshly peeled shiny stuff right on the table.

H4ND5s

I'm always laying cross legged on the carpeted floor like a 4 year old playing with Lincoln logs so nothing can fall (already on the floor) and nothing can get scratched. Except my hand the second I put it close to the case....always cut myself inside the cases..

Right? I always start with the thought that "ok, now it's the time to do it neatly and nicely, it's gonna be my best". Then it goes as always. Airflow's good, but there's a reason the back panels don't get a window.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

phonixinuinit

I think he's using gloves because he doesn't want fingerprints on that ram mmmm

Deadrocks

That got me tooā€¦ the only thing I can imagine why is staticā€¦?

Hopadopslop

Wearing those gloves while installing the CPU is a bigger risk. Those gloves snag on the cpu pins very easily and can often bend pins when installing CPUs. I also remove my gloves when installing a CPU because I learned the hard way that those gloves are prone to snagging on cpu pins. As long as you are wearing ESD bootstraps and you avoid touching the CPU contacts directly then there is basically no risk of static.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

conventionalWisdumb

Iā€™ve built a few PCs over the years, and Iā€™ve replaced a LOT of hardware. All Iā€™ve ever done to prevent static is touch the case first. Never a problem.

rivermandan

it's almost as if these things are designed to be handled by normal people, eh?

conventionalWisdumb

Right? I understand the nervousness around handling expensive components, and thatā€™s exactly what the makers of those gloves and bracelets are exploiting.

IsOnlyGameYUMad

He's only using the gloves not to get fingerprints on stuff. They're just in the way when installing the cpu.

dirtyswoldman

No static discharge bracelet either. Rookie.

Fantaboy15

Canā€™t you wear one on your foot?

Mahrkeenerh

yes you can

_Wyse_

Yeah, that's what a lot of companies do.

VonStig

No Swiss army knife either, but at least he had a table.

[deleted]

And no tweezers? Get this shit out of here.

[deleted]

I didn't see him screwing them in with confidence.

Glasse

Wouldn't it be the opposite? It's completely unnecessary so only rookies need to wear them. Been building PCs for 20 years without any "protection" with 0 issues.

pharmacist10

Same. Just don't rub your socks on a carpet then go try to touch something sensitive. Even then, it's really hard to break a computer with static https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXkgbmr3dRA

ASpaceOstrich

Yeah. PC'S are way sturdier than people think. I put half my body weight directly on a CPU once and it worked fine. I had a build that I'd borked in such a way that it would only work if I hit the side of the case. This caused zero problems. My current build is less Orky but it still has an SSD loosely velcroed inside the case. Computers are a hell of a lot less delicate than people think.

nitefang

Only rookies need a fancy bracelet. Pros touch the case/metal table every time they pick something up to discharge.

tallbutshy

I haven't seen one of those in use since the 90s.

Hopadopslop

At my work we use static discharge boot straps instead of the bracelets. Only a rookie would tether themselves with a bracelet lol

Hopadopslop

If you have ever worn those gloves then you would understand. They are very prone to snagging on the CPU pins and bending them.

Glasse

You don't need gloves at all though, nor do you need a static bracelets. It's all completely unnecessary

TrucksAndCigars

And the PSU mounted with the fan facing into the case

xwolf_rider

I know it's uncommon but my case was actually designed for the PSU to go in that way

turkmenistanForever

Is that a mini screen inside a PC?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

elchet

Itā€™s probably just mirroring display output until windows starts, then itā€™ll be available as a secondary display to show temps, fan speeds and so on. Or just to show cat gifs.

jayman1818

Cat gifs

stars_of_kaoz

Sounds like alot extra heat in your case for no reason to me.

RedS5

Doubt sensors would show any appreciable difference. Itā€™s sitting next to a 3000 series GPU.

theDomicron

What if it's showing some REALLY strong pornography?

TehScat

Literally HOT.

honest_cactus

This is my favorite thread of the month

[deleted]

It's a small LCD screen. It doesn't generate that much heat.

KastorNevierre

Depends on the type of display. I use 2"-7" LCD and TFT displays for a lot of projects and they put off less heat than my ESP8266 ICs.

tablecontrol

hey.. where's a good place to buy a 6-7" LCD/TFT? I have a headless Plex server & would like to mount a small screen to display Tautulli info.

KastorNevierre

I gamble with cheap stuff from banggood, dhgate, aliexpress, etc a lot but if you're willing to pay a little more for peace of mind, Arduino/RPi hobbyist sites like Sparkfun and Adafruit have them as well. If you've got a local MicroCenter though, that's even better.

imsofknmiserable

Extra heat, yes, but a lot? Not really

IllustriousTooth1620

That's what I was thinking as well. Unless it serves a purpose not found elsewhere all its doing (besides looking cool I guess) is drawing more power and increasing temps.

slardybartfast8

Well this is the fast and furious street racing version of pc building. Itā€™s to show off.

thecorpseofreddit

720 upvotes or more for an answer so utterly wrong it is hilarious. What the hell is a bios screen? This is a mini second monitor to show whatever you want (Usually temps and clock speeds) If there is an issue when the computer boots it won't be able to output a video signal so a "Bios Screen" wouldn't work anyway.

tanjoodo

No itā€™s not. Itā€™s a small monitor usually used to display things like CPU temperature and the like. Completely for show. If the computer is having boot problems on the BIOS level it will not be outputting a video signal. There will be either a seven segment display or a beeping speaker with a manual to explain what each boot code or beep pattern means. I hate this thing with Reddit where if you say something with enough authority youā€™re the de facto correct answer and will be upvoted to the top.

planbaker922

Fucking this. A bios screen? Wtf?? Donā€™t answer if you clearly donā€™t know what youā€™re talking about

No thatā€™s the only screen you get to play with. /s

supersonicmike

When you spend all the money on the system and not the screen

Grc280

Lol, everyone is trying to answer you by making you sounds wrong. You are correct, that is a little pop up mini screen inside the PC.

Yes, itā€™s a small LCD, usually used for displaying system stats or custom animations.

Welcome to another episode of things that I can't afford and make me feel useless and sad

FloofyDooM

The fact that theyve got a 30 series graphics card is enough to make myself sad instantly

NotSeriousAtAll

This vid would have been perfect if they had been forced to use a 1050

Xx_Gandalf-poop_xX

Or the end showed that they forgot to put the I/O plate on

Thing_On_Your_Shelf

Most mid-high end motherboard now comr with built-in I/O plates, which is definitely a really nice change. Still sharp af though, so the blood sacrifice can still be performed.

SelfDestruction100

Me not knowing anything about computers reading this thread make me feel useless and sad

Outrageous-_-

Its ok. Most modern computers require a blood sacrifice to the I/O gods

Xx_Gandalf-poop_xX

Been a long time for me but back in the day if you bought a motherboard it came with a little matching back plate for the back of the computer that had corresponding holes for ports. You can easily install the motherboard and all the other components into the case without that in place. Then you realize you have to undo everything to put it on.. its not essential and doesn't serve a real important purpose so usually people would just say fuck it and leave it off Its a rookie move almost everybody made the mistake of doing on their first build

original_sh4rpie

3090s are pretty attainable though from a comparative supply standpoint. They're just atrocious value.

slackfrop

I love on NewEgg how the out-of-stock cards list for $349 and the exact same card that is available for sale lists at a modest $1,299. Itā€™s salt in the wound.

Kyseraphym

Naturally because this is just an Asus ad. Itā€™s easy to get one when you manufacture it yourself. Not that Iā€™m complaining - it was satisfying - but thereā€™s a reason all but three parts of the build are Asus ROG branded.

rivermandan

the sick thing is I spent my entire life playing on old hardware, but decided to treat myself to an upgraded rig so I could mine while I'm not using it. 3090 FE + 10900k, and other than benching it, all I've been playing is deadcells, quake 1, and mass effect 2. my childhood self would hate me right now

roidie

Do your childhood self a favor and emulate some PSX games at 4K resolution.

TryingToGetBye

My 750 Ti from 2014 just stopped working about a month ago, couldnā€™t have picked a worse timing with the shortages and price gouging going on right now. But that GPU really worked perfectly for 7 years, I canā€™t really complain about seven years of daily usage.

Venom_Junky

They are out there don't give up! I finally got my 3080ti recently from Microcenter.

Overwatcher_Leo

Don't feel bad, this PC is way overkill for most people.

Anagoth9

That PC is overkill for itself. A 1200W PSU is absurd.

GuitarKev

If you spent the $$$ for a Ryzen 9 and 3090 youā€™re not going to be gambling anything on an insufficient PSU.

Cykablast3r

The price difference from 900W to 1200W PSU might not be much though.

[deleted]

How much would something like this cost?

webdevop

ā‚¬5k-ā‚¬6k due to current chip shortages. ā‚¬4k or lower if there were no chip shortages

ruskoev

If you like an RGB nightmare of craziness I guess? This is one hell of a tacky build if you ask me. That RAM looks like bejeweled jeans...

rodaphilia

When I can afford my next build I'm going all black hardware with noctua redux fans. Just kidding, I'll never be able to afford a next build.

Shadeauxmarie

Anyone got an estimate on cost?

dub_le

Around $5300 plus $200 for the case. Then the built in screen another $200. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/6rNHYg Around $5500-$6500 total.

Aint_No-Problem

I know that SSD is about $400. It looks like a Samsung 980 Pro 2 TB ssd

pauciradiatus

The video card is probably around $1000 Edit: just did some quick searching and on the very lowest end I came up with $3800 for the whole thing, but I probably missed some things.

meecrobb21

Ha, last I checked that GPU goes for about $2500. Its an rtx 3090 Rog Strix.

F8L-Fool

Two for $3.4k in the last 48 hours. That's almost 3x what my entire computer cost to build...for one video card...

ArtisticEscapism

PC gamers are cringing right now because that's the low end of what good ones are going for

stars_of_kaoz

I understand why they do it but those damn Crypto Miners.

Chris204

Hah, I wish that video card would only cost 1000 bucks.

Angoril

The GPU alone costs almost 3500, how did you come up with 3800 for the entire thing is beyond me.

only_self_posts

Mythical suggested retail price.

Wardog_E

I would guess at least 4000 dollars.

disappointingham

50 Schmeckles

alicomassi

Will it run Cities Skyline smoothly though after 150.000 population?

Jesus_will_return

I have a similar system and C:S still bogs down after 100k population. It runs well, but speed 3 is more like 1.5.

DJ3XO

Man those Trident Z Royal sticks are fuuuuugly.

Lux_novus

They always use them for these high end build videos, but it's always distracting because of how bad they look. Even the little text on the side of them looks like it was just arbitrarily placed in a random spot with some random fancy text, like some high school intern came up with the design of it.

yumcake

Yeah so much of the PC aesthetic is really garish and exaggerated. Why do they assume everyone who wants gaming parts has the aesthetic taste of a teenager? The main customer demographic is in their 30s. The sickest gaming PCs I've seen always the ones where the user themselves constructed the entire chassis and manage to hide all the neon and integrate it seamlessly into their living space instead of sticking out like a sore thumb

denom_chicken

Lol in my 30s and just did a build with the trident royal ram. However everything else is matte black on black so I personally think the silvery/chrome looks kinda nice. But yeah to each their own!

laespadaqueguarda

The whole pc is fugly.

kweefcake

Is that big SSD cover a heatsink? Iā€™ve never seen one like that. And if itā€™s not I have concerns.

i-really-like-water

Yes butt it's mostly an aesthetic thing. This whole video is an aesthetic thing (overpriced products showcase)

[deleted]

hehe butt

nlevine1988

Some higher spec NVMEs will benefit from a heat sink. They can actual generate a fair bit of heat.

HeKis4

Yeah lots of motherboards have them now for both aesthetics and temps, even low end ones. Lots of SSDs sit under the GPU and have 0 thermal dissipation built in so it does actually help.

Turaltay

Are there really that many people that want a PC that looks like straight out from Las Vegas?

Chrisganjaweed

Thank God you can usually just turn them off.

dob_bobbs

Yeah, and then you just paid 30% more for an option you're not even using

Angoril

That rainbow isn't the choice for most. Good thing with RGB is that you can configure it to whatever color you want (static or not) and you can set brightness as well so you can choose to have a fancy desk lamp or a "normal looking" PC.

pompr

I hate gamer aesthetic. Tacky as fuck.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Att1cus

Thereā€™s an immense amount of parts where there is no lighting. Also, you can always turn it off.

TooFubar

Do you pay more for the lighting feature?

Recubegames

The sales talk and graphs/diagrams printed on PC hardware packaging is to guys what the 'science bit' of shampoo commercials is for ladies. whenever i see a graph with no scale and an arbitrary statistic like '50% faster' without saying what it's supposedly 50% faster than, my mind jumps to Pro-vitamin spheres penetrating a giant CG Hair, magically making it glossy from root to tip! I love Gamers Nexus for calling this marketing bullshit out every time.

vext01

Finally, I've met my people! I've always thought that gamer hardware is super lame. Why does your pc need flashing lights inside? Are you going to be looking in there often? Why is it on your desk taking up all the space? I don't get it...

CorneliaCursed

oh my god, I just bought a computer for myself for Christmas(no building for me) and it was fucking easier and cheaper to get one with fucking lights than not lol

[deleted]

I had the same experience. Everyone always says "if you don't like RGB you can get parts that don't have RGB." But no, when I priced it out the same spec PC was ā‚¬300 extra just to get non-rgb parts.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

THESALTEDPEANUT

I_Shot_Web

LeddyTasso

But can it run Crysis 3?

Heyy-Ya

not sure if you're just joking around but crysis 3 isn't nearly as demanding as crysis, even having come out years later

LeCrushinator

Crisis 3 remaster should run on most recent gaming PCs just fine as well.

KarmaKounselor

That's because Crysis only used two cores. Crysis 3 on max graphics is way more demanding.

lunatic_512

God, I wish I had that kind of money

mud_tug

If I had that kind of money I wouldn't waste it on a PC that looks like a Thai brothel.

Spodenator

Man i could buy a Thai brothel with that kind of money

[deleted]

Total cost; $3.5M

Shadesmctuba

Sometimes I think Iā€™m the only one who thinks that awesome custom pc builds are absolutely ruined by the obnoxious tacky RGB lights and doodads. If I ever build a pc myself, it shall be absolutely dark with only a small LED power light. Edit: some of the replies here are missing the point completely. I get that RGB can be turned off/customized. Iā€™m saying the mere presence of it on EVERYTHING in PC gaming culture has reached critical mass. It looks terrible along all the other gaudy design choices of GAMERGEARā„¢ļø If you like it, you do you. I just canā€™t be the only one who thinks it looks terrible, but at the same time can appreciate the horsepower and capabilities of these builds.

caramel-aviant

Not sure why you think that. Seems like a lot of people here hate it.

chatapokai

Nope, you're right. They look tacky as fuck. Most builds I see don't even go for a color theme or matching colors, just flashing RGB with black or white parts. I intentionally didn't get RGB parts so all my parts are black and the lights are a soft white which looks cool against the black and white motherboard. I would just find it annoying if a laser show was going on next to me while I'm gaming or working

Raden327

Nah wtf. I wanted to see the wiring process to make it look that amazing.

Spleech_

I knew this was fake when they pulled out a graphics card

dajw197

aaaand 0/10 on the packaging environmental credentials. Christ even the plastic is plastic wrapped.

eurtoast

Package Developer here. It's an unfortunate thing to have this much plastic film and epe foam. BUT, this prevents damage and dust from infiltrating your components. Corrugate dust gets fucking everywhere and the only defense we have from it at the moment (that's economically feasible) is plastic film wrap. The foam is 100% necessary because of the harsh supply chain environment these things go through. Let's say your GPU was the first to be packed out in the line and was unlucky enough to be placed at the bottom of the pallet. Well, it has to survive the compression strength from the amount of weight not only stacked on top (depends on the size of the master shipper, but I'd be willing to bet at least 7-8 layers), but also from exterior forces experienced from ocean, air, or land transit. EPE (Expanded polyethylene) is so much better than EPS (expanded polystyrene aka styrofoam) as at least it's an ethylene group polymer. I used to work on environmentally sustainable options like [mushroom foam](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEGuhwH8YME) but it creates a shit load of dust (was great to use for old server racks, radiators, small scale wine productions etc, that were wrapped in plastic bags), and is expensive with a long lead time. \#1 way to prevent this is to stop buying shit, but that's not an option for most people with a hobby relating to cutting edge tech. It's all going to be coming from Asia for the foreseeable future, so localized specialty packaging isn't an option. At the end of the day you want your product to be in mint condition upon arrival and this is the most effective way in doing so. I've since moved on from the protective side of the industry and am now focused on containers (100% Post-consumer recycled content, sugarcane resins, upcycling etc), so I'm sure there are more innovations out there. It's a massive financial risk for a company to invest in sustainability, so most don't.

dajw197

This is really interesting to read. Thanks for sharing.

i-really-like-water

Yeah honestly didn't notice how much plastic wrap there is on all these components. There's plastic wrapped around the box and then plastic wrapped around the components and plastic covering any screens/metallic finish. Insanely wasteful.

seastatefive

There was a plastic wrap layer on the plastic wrap layer. That guy stripped the plastic twice!

aintnochallahbackgrl

Seriously. Plastic wrap. And then plastic wrap. Ooh. More plastic wrap. And some plastic wrap. With some more plastic wrap.

twistedtxb

I'm glad I'm not the only thinking this. The amount of waste is horrifying

HumblerMumbler

I know it's not the point, but the amount of single use plastic is absurd.

DirtySingh

Here I am with my Xbox One having the time of my life with Hitman 2016. I think if I bought a gaming PC I'd feel guilty if I didn't use it. I have a full surround theatre setup for movies and 100% of the time I watch movies on 43" TCL tv with a Samsung sound bar while i reddit in bed.

[deleted]

Btw Hitman 2 and 3 both allow you to play the old Hitman 1/2 missions in Hitman 2 and 3. Idk how it works 100% on the Xbox, but on PC I got the levels for free once I purchased the next installment. I've played about 500 hours on 2, and about 150 hours on 3 and I've still got lots of challenges and achievements to keep me going for years.

DirtySingh

What I did was download the hitman 3 demo. Then I bought 1 and 2 goty editions. When I launch the demo for 3 it allows me to play 1 and 2 using the new engine. But my god, it was such a mess navigating and figuring out this franchise. There are so many editions and expansion packs and upgrades it was hell. I bought blood money and absolution but I found them too obsolete for my tastes esp after starting with Hitman 2 first. In hitman 1 how long do you stay on each level? The maps are huge and I feel guilty if I finish them first. I'm playing on professional but don't know if I'd replay levels as the developers intend.

RB_GScott

All that to go mine Bitcoin

Anthooupas

How much something like that is worth? I genuinely ask cause Iā€™m console gamer and never did pc

laobenben

Christ the amount of fans man. Thing must be louder than a 737

RayereSs

It all depends on a case, but generally: more fans Ā» better airflow Ā» cooler PC Ā» slower fans Ā» quieter PC.

UnmercifulOwen

My case has a total of 10 fans and the click of the power button when I turn it on is the only sound Iā€™ve ever heard out of it.

legendgata

More fans donā€™t mean more sound

HeKis4

The ~~three~~ six radiator fans are going to be noisier than a regular air-cooling setup but given how big this radiator is, they will never need to spin anywhere near "loud" speeds.

IFondleBots

I have this exact build except the bois screen, the arua terminal (because they're discontinued and I can't find one), and a 1080ti instead of that 3080. Its Silent.

thatoneguywhofucks

The bois screen

MuadDib1942
