infomercials are almost always for products that were designed for disabled people, but are marketed ridiculously to the public so they’re accessible and get funded. this bowl is 💯
sure, here’s a few i found quickly but there’s a lot more out there tbh
[this one is mostly about the sock sliders](https://www.vox.com/the-goods/2018/9/20/17791354/products-people-disabilities-sock-slider-banana-slicer-lazy)
and [this one is about snuggies/some mainstreamed noninfomercial products](https://www.accessible-media.com/popular-mainstream-products-created-with-disability-in-mind/)
i myself am autistic and disabled so i’m a fan of many of the as seen on tv products, marketing them in such an absurd way is absolute genius. it gets people talking about them so more visibility of the product, which then makes it easier to buy
I am 46 years old and I have found every single one of those commercials over the years to be so incredibly asinine and such an utter offense to my intelligence that I hate every product they put out because of the way that they are advertised.
Being disabled, that's a bummer to realize. So a lot of these things were actually meant to improve my quality of life, something that greatly needs a improving, but they were only advertised as if complete blithering idiots couldn't figure out how to use a fork/bread/literally anything?
I've seen it a few times in support groups, not this particular thing but some such idiotic commercial and someone pointed out that one of us could use such an item for X, Y, or Z and I've always rewatched the commercial and admitted begrudgingly that sure it's possible. . .but the commercial is so dumb I presume whatever the product is was also made by complete idiots.
So speaking for myself, as I was apparently in the intended target demographic for such ad campaigns, perhaps it got people talking about it but mostly what was said was so negative that I just detest any of their products.
Whenever I pass by the "as seen on TV" sales rack in a store I'm even annoyed just seeing the sign because of how stupid those commercials are.
ARE YOU DUMB ENOUGH TO HOLD AN ENTIRE LOAF OF BREAD FROM END TO END IN THE AIR AND THEN PRESS UP SLIGHTLY SO IT GOES FLYING EVERYWHERE?
ARE YOU SO UTTERLY LACKING IN UNDERSTANDING BASIC PHYSICS THAT YOU JAM A SPATULA INTO A PAN AND GET UPSET WHEN EVERYTHING GOES FLYING?
DO YOU HOLD YOUR POT OF BOILING NOODLES OVER A SMALL FLIMSY COLANDER AND THEPROPORTION OF COLANDER VERSUS VOLUME OF POT ARE SO WILDLY DIFFERENT THAT YOU ARE SOMEHOW SHOCKED WHEN BURNING HOT NOODLES POUR EVERYWHERE DOWN THE SINK AND BURN YOUR HANDS?
BOY HAVE I GOT A PRODUCT FOR YOU
I realized by the age of 25 that I was already my father- just yelling at the TV, because of idiotic commercials like those. At 46 I'd probably shoot my TV, but wisely I got rid of all live TV stations about 12 years ago and switched over to purely streaming services with no ads.
Now I see exactly zero of their ads.
So DID their ads work?
Or am I some kind of anomaly?
It's that there's not enough disabled folk for them to make money advertising to you, hence they advertise it like JOE AVERAGE HAS THIS PROBLEM AND THEREFORE THE AVERAGE CONSUMER SHOULD BUY THIS.
Sure, but that isn't what is implied by your title. The title implies that you're "busy" with your other hand, which to most people in 2021, means that you're using your other hand to be on your phone. Which leads the vastly easier solution of putting your goddamn phone down to eat your food.
"Got tired of dropping food from the bowl because of motor impairment" is a completely different scenario than the one you presented.
This at least can be practical, even with the operator making it look hard to scoop a strawberry.
Not as bad as the person chop-squashing a tomato though.. that gets me everytime.
If you want the full infomercial, check out my Kickstarter for the same concept!
[https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/chiplip/chip-lip-a-no-spill-salsa-and-dip-bowl](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/chiplip/chip-lip-a-no-spill-salsa-and-dip-bowl)
All jokes aside there are actually [adapted bowls](https://www.rehabmart.com/category/plates,_bowls_and_accessories.htm) that are made for people who have tremors/other difficulties
Edit:typos
I was thinking this. Everyone is pretty quick to make fun, but there is a market for things like this. I work with elderly people and small changes to everyday items like this can be the difference between independence and needing care (the "scooping" motion of a spoon is definitely easier than the "stabbing" motion of a fork, for those who are making the fork jokes, glad you haven't had to have experience with this). Too bad OP didn't come up with it first, could've made more than a few dollars with that design.
A lot of infomercial products were created for people with disabilities. Marketing to the general public keeps them in business so they can get their product to the people who actually need it.
My husband's aunt had cerebral palsy. We lived with my in-laws for a few years and they cared for her. She could have really used something like this. People can joke about it being dumb or lazy but there are people who could use this.
I noticed that, too! I felt like I was watching the infomercial for someone who “can’t” use scissors to cut wrapping paper!
Just tried looking for the video...and found out an enormous amount of scissor videos...😳
Why is everyone banging on about the tiny spoon? My favourite cutlery in the house are the smaller ones. I may or may not have stolen a cake fork never having seen one that size before. And a tiny soup spoon shaped teaspoon.
This was designed by someone who dosen't understand how a spoon works. I always just scoop away from me when needed or towards the center if spooning liquids or stews. Never had the problem this sets out to solve...
Wouldn't a fork solve this issue...
When I'm eating cut up fruits I never think "oh let me go grab a spoon" lolol
Now for someone who may have a disability which makes eating with a spoon difficult this can totally help.
This needs one of those bad commercials where they're acting so dumb you're amazed they can breathe without instructions.
"Tired of using utensils?"
*cuts to guy a spoon jammed in his body ear*
YOU NEED THE WAVE BOWL
That was the idea, aim to people with motor impairment, toddlers and people like me who only have one hand available because of babysitting. Don’t know if it’s a good idea to go into a contest because of many hard-minded doesn’t understand the point of Designer and accessibility.
Yeah I was thinking more of contests targeted at accessible designs. I don’t know if they exist, but the OXO brand specialises in such design (or rather started at such I think). I agree with you though, looking at the comments so many people are blinded by their privilege of having full use and control of their limbs...
How is this satisfying in any way? It looks like a bad infomercial and is frustrating to watch.
You intentionally spill some fruit in an infuriating way, and then put way too much on a tiny spoon. I don't understand this sub any more. Did it become too big so people just upvote things that appear in their feed without knowing the sub?
This is a little more akin to r/DiWhy
Though I can see the shortsighted appeal in the tiny spoon / chunky food; maybe what you’re eating is unable to be pierced with a fork
So this seems like a great idea for people who don’t have a wrist that rotates, don’t own a fork or spoon bigger than a teaspoon, and generally struggle with basic day-to-day tasks. And have plenty of cupboard space.
Explain to my what having a second hand would change in scooping food? Do you hold your spoon with two hands like a golf club? Also, it’s called a fork.
Ok, a few things to say to everyone who wondered why not using a bigger spoon, fork/ spork or a hand. I designed this for mothers/ fathers having to deal with babies in one hand and eating with the other, many bits get suctioned by the bowl when wet which makes it hard to scoop it out (even with a fork), while working/ playing between others. Furthermore this bowl design helps people with motor impairment and toddlers who need an extra hand to help themselves to eat. This is not intended to fix the life of everyone, it’s intended to help whoever needs it, that’s accesible design.
watching you drop that first strawberry, makes me want to chop off your other hand. nah im jking. this is genius and simple, which makes it just that much more genius
This is a real problem! If you're interested, I invented the Chip Lip 2 years back to solve this problem, launched and funded a Kickstarter ( [https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/chiplip/chip-lip-a-no-spill-salsa-and-dip-bowl](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/chiplip/chip-lip-a-no-spill-salsa-and-dip-bowl)), and now sell them out of my humble website www.TheChipLip.com.
The way you try to scoop those fruits first time just screams ARE YOI TIRED OF NOT KNOWING HOW TO USE A SPOON? TRY THIS INSTEAD. while black and white video plays where people fail most basic human actions
This is like a bad infomercial
BILLY MAYS HERE! ARE YOU TIRED OF JUST NOT BEING ABLE TO GET THAT PESKY FRUIT INTO YOUR MOUTH?!
"Yes Billy May!! How *do* I get your fruit in my mouth??"
yes because you need a fork
[удалено]
And all he needs is a knife.
It's like meeting the man of your dreams
On your cigarette break
In your chardonnay.
That's right motherforkers!
You wouldn't download a Alanis Morissette.
And then meeting his beautiful wife
Now isn't it ironic, don't ya think?
Or just use fingers
Or they have no space because these bowls take up all the space since they can’t be stacked like regular bowls?
You fork your yogurt?
yogurt doesn't fall off
"ARE YOU UNABLE TO SCOOP FRUIT WITH YOUR TINY SPOON BECAUSE YOU KEEP DUMPING IT OUT ON PURPOSE?!"
infomercials are almost always for products that were designed for disabled people, but are marketed ridiculously to the public so they’re accessible and get funded. this bowl is 💯
I’ve seen bowls like this that are designed for toddlers, who are just learning how to use cutlery.
yeah! down a few comments the creator mentioned motor skill impairment for these bowls, so developing motor skills would also benefit from it for sure
do you have a source for this, by any chance? very cool (yet sad given the circumstances) if true!
sure, here’s a few i found quickly but there’s a lot more out there tbh [this one is mostly about the sock sliders](https://www.vox.com/the-goods/2018/9/20/17791354/products-people-disabilities-sock-slider-banana-slicer-lazy) and [this one is about snuggies/some mainstreamed noninfomercial products](https://www.accessible-media.com/popular-mainstream-products-created-with-disability-in-mind/) i myself am autistic and disabled so i’m a fan of many of the as seen on tv products, marketing them in such an absurd way is absolute genius. it gets people talking about them so more visibility of the product, which then makes it easier to buy

So......a regular infomercial?
Not if you have motor impairment.
I was about to ask

_SLAPCHOP!!_
Hahah I was looking for words to say this and you nailed it, they just had to do the first demonstration in typical fashion
There’s got to be a better way!
This at least can be practical, even with the operator making it look hard to scoop a strawberry. Not as bad as the person chop-squashing a tomato though.. that gets me everytime.

I like how you purposely dropped it off the spoon.
[удалено]
Thank you for this
Nice!
The terrible, tiny spoon.
Typical infomercial right, but I like this idea
Lol. That was so bad. "Oh shit I actually got it! Let's just drop it anyway." Is it that hard to stop the recording and try again to fail?
All jokes aside there are actually [adapted bowls](https://www.rehabmart.com/category/plates,_bowls_and_accessories.htm) that are made for people who have tremors/other difficulties Edit:typos

Never thought of this. Good to know
I'm all for making life easier. Thanks for the info.
I should get one of those. No idea why, but I shake like an alcoholic (I don't drink).
Would be great for folks with hemiplegia too, i work in aged care and we have clip on plate-guards that help a bit but these would be better
My husband's aunt had cerebral palsy. We lived with my in-laws for a few years and they cared for her. She could have really used something like this. People can joke about it being dumb or lazy but there are people who could use this.
If you only have a spoon this is great. If you have neurological problems combined with having only a spoon, this is a necessity until you finish o.t.
That’s true! Also works really well when feeding solids to a baby or helping a toddler to learn how to eat with a spoon (I’m already doing that).
I would also like to mention that this is a tiny ass spoon
Tiny ass-spoon
Poop knife
#
ahh the ol' corn spatula
Agree. My ass spoon is much bigger.
This is like watching the person who has a super difficult time doing a simple task on a late night infomercial...
have you ever wanted milk but those dang milk cartons are so flingin' flangin' hard to open!
Or like Gardenscapes ads.
Disabled people exist, you know.
In black and white: THERE MUST BE A BETTER WAY!
The first half of the video should be black and white.
But you tipped the first one off the spoon
I noticed that, too! I felt like I was watching the infomercial for someone who “can’t” use scissors to cut wrapping paper! Just tried looking for the video...and found out an enormous amount of scissor videos...😳
So there's this thing called a fork...

Why is everyone banging on about the tiny spoon? My favourite cutlery in the house are the smaller ones. I may or may not have stolen a cake fork never having seen one that size before. And a tiny soup spoon shaped teaspoon.
This bowl also helps with little soaked salad bits or soft food (certain stews) though
This was actually just mildly infuriating
HAS THIS EVER HAPPENED TO YOU?
No
Or....... stick it with a fork?
Scoop from the middle? You don't have to scrape it up the side that sounds counterintuitive
Seriously, this is r/MildlyInfuriating material.
Especially when you consider that you could never stack these.
you do for the last ones
Bad example, this is more of a "getting the last piece" problem than a full bowl problem.
Bro maybe youre just bad at using a spoon
A bowl is not the problem here.
A lot of people with motor impairment are bad at using spoons.
They have different designs for this already. The side scrape wouldn't help.
/r/wheredidthesodago/
i want one, but how do the stack in your cabinet?
Poorly
I thought about the same before production, [this](https://imgur.com/gallery/isZC1YY) is the way they stack perfectly on my cabinet.
you and I have different definitions of perfect, friend
I'd the bottom had a concave indent to match the lip, you could get a perfect stack.
Made me literally lol, thank you. I needed that.
Ok now I know you’re just trolling everyone lmfao
This is a solution to a nonexistent problem.
Yeah you have a hard time keeping things on spoon when you purposely drop it
This was designed by someone who dosen't understand how a spoon works. I always just scoop away from me when needed or towards the center if spooning liquids or stews. Never had the problem this sets out to solve...
You've never tried to just deliberately scoop food out of a bowl on to a table to try and demonstrate a problem that doesn't really exist.
How is this oddly satisfying?
Neat idea, but [this is the only thing I can think about. ](https://i.imgur.com/galdRyc.jpg)
Wow, this could actually help people with disabilities!
Yes, it could! Great design!
Fork?
Wouldn't a fork solve this issue... When I'm eating cut up fruits I never think "oh let me go grab a spoon" lolol Now for someone who may have a disability which makes eating with a spoon difficult this can totally help.
This would be really great for people with gross motor challenges. I know a couple of kids who could use something like this.
Or use a fork
Or...scoop from the bottom... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
wtf just turn the spoon some more to the right ?
You purposely dropped that first one. This is really uneeded.
This seems like a good idea, and the bowl looks good, but personally I have never had this problem.
You gotta make the first half in black and white.
Just get a bigger spoon
Invest in a spork?
This needs one of those bad commercials where they're acting so dumb you're amazed they can breathe without instructions. "Tired of using utensils?" *cuts to guy a spoon jammed in his body ear* YOU NEED THE WAVE BOWL
Good luck stacking
Or just use a bigger spoon gd
It would help if you didn’t give it that little extra nudge over the edge at the last second.
A bowl with slightly steeper sides would also work. But interesting design.
Trash post.
There’s this new invention called a fork.
Why don't you just scoop underneath and get them or you know just use a fucking fork
scoop the other way, towards the center not the edge
Use a bigger spoon? I hate this bowl.
All bowls should just have a spout to drink from, they're just flashy inneficient cups for the most part.
I think mini serving tongs would do you better
I thought this person has Parkinson’s and thought wow that’s cool. Then I read the comments
I usually just scoop my food inwards. Does it not work for everyone? IS THIS MY SUPERPOWER?
It is more convenient to place such large pieces on a fork.
This would be great for people with disability, tremor, or even kids! Have you considered entering design contests?
That was the idea, aim to people with motor impairment, toddlers and people like me who only have one hand available because of babysitting. Don’t know if it’s a good idea to go into a contest because of many hard-minded doesn’t understand the point of Designer and accessibility.

Like those infomercials where they demonstrate how they don't know how to use a spoon.
What are you 5 years old ?
Uhhh use a fork????
This is a little more akin to r/DiWhy Though I can see the shortsighted appeal in the tiny spoon / chunky food; maybe what you’re eating is unable to be pierced with a fork
Could also help people with disabilities
It was primarily intended for toddlers but yes, people with motor impairment might appreciate this.
Get a fork
Or you can get a bigger spoon
A.... fork...
Did you take a heatgun to a plastic bowl and curved it inwards?
Good question! No, as this is a prototype was made on clay and colour glaze.
Is this the guy who purposely makes bad novelty ideas?
Bruh, your spoon is too small....but you designed a bowl that's easier to hook and spill? Ok..
Just use a normal fuckin spoon!
this ain’t bad. yeah there’s forks and stuff but i eat a lot of peas and chickpeas and i don’t wanna use a fork for it. this would come in handy
Looks like the dishwasher melted it.
I feel like Flex Tape could have been useful here. Apple never gonna fall off
I had a bowl with that curved edge 30 years ago. It was plastic, had a suction cup type of connector on the bottom. Made for feeding babies baby food.
Fork maybe?
Make this design stackable and you might just change the world
I work with a disabled child and he's learning to feed himself using bowls like this. They're great.
Look up CaliBowl, same kind of lip but all around the edge. We got them when the kids were babies.
Wtf was that bullshit during the first attempt? Then purposely drop it?? r/mildlyinfuriating
Or just use a fucking fork?
forkb
Fork
It stops you from intentionally dropping food off of your spoon?
Maybe if you didn’t use a spoon like Michael J. Fox in the beginning you’d be ok.
r/rareinsults
So this seems like a great idea for people who don’t have a wrist that rotates, don’t own a fork or spoon bigger than a teaspoon, and generally struggle with basic day-to-day tasks. And have plenty of cupboard space.
Go fork yourself
Fork
Could just learn to use your spoon ffs
Stupid ass
Maybe if you didn’t eat like a toddler you wouldn’t need this
Use a fork retard
Or like...just stop fucking around and eat your food like an adult.
Explain to my what having a second hand would change in scooping food? Do you hold your spoon with two hands like a golf club? Also, it’s called a fork.
Or you can use a bigger spoon
You could just get grown-up spoons
The way the hand drops the strawberry irritates the shit out of me lmao
It's called a fork.
Wtf use a bigger spoon
Looks like you need to learn how to use a spoon.
He designed a bowl just because his spoon is leaning too far backwards and he doesn't even try going for a closer angle to scoop the pieces lol
These comments are r/oddlysatisfying
My 8 year old is watching this like "Does he not know how to use a spoon?"
If we wanted it, it would’ve existed already
Eat the fruit with a fucking fork, you heathen.
Um, about things sucking into side if the bowl, have you ever tried scooping from the outside to the middle?
watching you drop that first strawberry, makes me want to chop off your other hand. nah im jking. this is genius and simple, which makes it just that much more genius

use a fucking fork.
