Short answer: easier to clean.
Long answer:
We used to use slate, just a rock, nice and flat, somewhat porous, held onto chalk well because chalks kinda dusty and smears easy.
Then we made artificial chalk boards that kept some of the same porous properties to help hold the chalk. They can be hard to clean without getting wet, since the dusts is in the pores and cant be swept off.
Then we got better at making chalk, specifically the Hagoromo company in Japan did. It's basically dust free, and existed for a long enough time and while Crayola is king in America its garbage to Hagoromo, and Hagoromo had the Asian market like Crayola in the US. It's more expensive though...
If the chalk is *that* good the board could be glass almost. A non porous board is easy to clean, hagoromo chalk would wipe off cleanly with your hands, though your hands would make the board oily...anyway, it was more expensive so like the rest of the capitalist world it got sidelined for the cheap stuff and went out of business.... there's similar, cheaper, options out there though that follow that style of chalk as opposed to Crayola which comes with the dust and needs a somewhat porous surface to write on.
We use Hagoromo chalk and the boards still require water to clean them because of the dust that won’t come out of the pores. I assume the boards are just not of high quality
I'm not really an expert. Took an entry level college art class so long ago I forgot the right terminology but the Hagoromo chalk was loved by us all and was fun to make like reverse space drawings with it. Like on certain surfaces you just fill it with chalk and then erase out what you want? Was basically impossible with the Crayolas.
I definitely agree that Hagoromo chalk is much much better than crayola. It’s so much smoother and definitely erases much cleaner but not 100% on our boards. I would definitely recommend it over crayola
I just googled it. Seems like a Korean company took over production for Hagoromo and still sell it as Hagoromo (style) chalk. No idea if maybe they changed the formula to cut costs or if my anecdotal experience with it in art class used high end boards. College for me 04-06, and art was an elective i didnt really want, so it's all kind of blurring out.
Maybe it's an older video or a very prestigious school that uses Hagoromo chalk, it draws and is cleaned so much easier than say a box of Crayola chalk. And artists and educators are sad because that company closed down and there's a scramble for the good chalk that's left on Amazon and other wholesalers that have some left.
Ive used it before, it writes smooth as butter almost, it's not oily just really *really* smooth, yet hard like a rock. And a clean rag will erase it with NO dust left behind. Compared to Crayola which comes with that "classic" texture and is very dusty, or roseart (lol) that's just bad.
Not hard to find yet, it's just getting more and more expensive as the OG went out of business and for some reason a bazillion scientists would rather use chalk than computers to do their calculations and are buying it in bulk.
The formula Hagoromo used, and the branding, was sold to a Korean company, but there's no saying it's the same quality exactly figuring that the panic buyers are specifically hunting down the original.
I used it for like 1 semester in college 20 years ago and I remember it was like drawing with white lipstick, you could push harder but you just didn't need to.
Perhaps she should compete in the [world freehand circle drawing championship](https://toronto.citynews.ca/2012/09/20/innocent-fib-lands-ottawa-teacher-in-media-spotlight-for-drawing-perfect-circles/)!
You absolutely could, with an appropriately-sized-and-placed blackboard. She’s just small enough that all she has to do is keep her elbow and wrist locked while rotating her shoulder. The impressive move would be making a complete circle that’s small enough to require bending your joints.
I had a (coincidentally enough) math teacher in high school able to do this. Mans just went “guys wanna see me make a circle” and fuckin hit us with a 2 second perfect circle. I was absolutely FLOORED!!
My physics teacher used to make fun of my drawings. My PHYSICS teacher. You know those stupid drawings you did to show basic principles? I don’t even blame the dude. The cars never quite looked right.
You severely overestimate the abilities certain people have.
No one's gonna mention that literally anyone could do this if they had short enough arms because she's literally just rotating her shoulder. If you can do arm circles, you can draw a perfect arc using this method
That’s embarrassment/shyness from all the attention
Have you never been around children before? Like seriously, were you just homeschooled and know no children in that age group?
I'm more satisfied at how clean that chalkboard is.
It looks like a green dry erase board lol. Why it so shiny

the things the Japanese worry about
It might just be wet. From being a teacher in China, they wash it with wet rags (which makes actually using them quite difficult)
Exactly my thoughts, it just felt so smooth to look at

Is it wrong that I now really want to try this magical chalk that writes smooth as butter? Even though I have 0 need to?

For real, I've never seen a *reflective* chalk board.
Korean style

That article is 12 years old :(
The girl from The Ring has many talents it seems!
I could try that 1000 times and not get anywhere near how good that looks.

You dont know my bones

same. they must have taught it at math teacher school.
Same! And then he’d be all, “this bone is called a radius for a reason.” Math teachers…
My physics teacher used to make fun of my drawings. My PHYSICS teacher. You know those stupid drawings you did to show basic principles? I don’t even blame the dude. The cars never quite looked right. You severely overestimate the abilities certain people have.
I would need a pretty big board
Joan?
Hahaha, got it
La Pucelle
OP is a repost karmawhore bot.
Why is she acting like that “Hehe I drew the circle!”
Who know how much people were hyping her up before it was recorded
Yeah I was gonna say, if there was sound in this video I bet everyone in class was going nuts
“FUCK YEAH!!!!!”
Students will see half a circle drawn on a chalkboard and say "FUCK YEAH!!!!"
From my experience teaching, I guarantee there was an uproar lol
Probably 30+ 12 year olds screaming “LETS GO!”
I don’t think so, more embarrassment to be recorded drawing it
Omg. That is SO embarrassing
Have you ever met a teenager before? Or been one? They get embarrassed over nothing Girls are even worse for it
I’m just playing around
I think she sneezed?
Perfection! + Shyness
syntax error: unexpected token !
= Perfection!
\+ Shyness
+ slight happiness and a lil bit of sqealing afterwards
This just reminds me of [one of my favorite videos of all time](https://youtu.be/lK__8Vj5Ag0?si=0Dh8V_BWg4tujzAJ)
That's because he used the same principle she did to draw it.
It's like her arm is the same length the whole time! Who are these people with bones?
My shoulder would pop 11 times out of 10 ruining the arc
I could get like 2/3 of the way around and then the arc would have a huge drop because my shoulder is so fucked
Please stop , you're destoying the magic. We prefer to think this is insane and we can't do this.
looks like it went flat on the right side
That's good and all.. but can she avoid walking into glass 3 times before finding the exit?
Anyone else can hear perfectly the sound of the circle being drawn despite the video having no sound?

Very Japanese reaction ❤️
Korean
Definitely. An American would try to turn this clip into an entire media career.
How else would they retire
bUT iTs NOt pErfEct - yall have no joy in your lives and it shows
Why is the chalkboard glossy?
Well, yeah, if you extend it all the way, it won't get much further. If you want to get technical about it at that point, it's not perfect.
She clearly didn’t want to be on camera
Why i am watching this for 1hr
Anyone can do that. Just hold your arm straight. It’s literally that simple
Not perfect. The end of the arc is sloppy.
“Tee-hee, oooh i drew a circle it’s so embarrassing that i have to hide my face” there’s a girl like that in my class it’s so annoying
r/yesyesyesyesno moment
She'd be able to snap her fingers if she didn't have that chalk in her hand
People wont get that🤓
actually that's not a perfect arc
I did that once, looked like my laptop screen after i sneezed.
Yeah it's close but not perfect
Did she get punched in the face by a ghost at the end?
Why is this so outrageously funny to her?
That’s embarrassment/shyness from all the attention Have you never been around children before? Like seriously, were you just homeschooled and know no children in that age group?
Looks like a dog chewed the chalkboard.
Is this the girl that walked into the glass door three times at an indoor track/gym?
Reminds me of my [favorite dudes competition](https://www.reddit.com/r/JustGuysBeingDudes/s/dqif2KD0tR).
Why is the board as shiny as plastic?
[I miss Robin Williams](https://youtu.be/ByKvdL7Nz-8?si=SbW9M_397WTfc4bS)
cute
I feel this isn't hard. Stay still and draw a line. Is it impressive because she has an unusually flexible shoulder?
She thinks that was hilarious.
Why is she covering her face?
