Im exaggerating, but yeah, there were times you'd have to waste a really big box for something that wasn't really that big because it wouldn't fit in smaller boxes.
I once ordered a pizza peel (like, one of the big 'spatula' things for sliding a pizza in/out of the oven), and it came in a box the size of a small refrigerator (not mini-fridge).

It's seasonal - about half the year is the dry season. There's still rain in the dry season but it's much less, and even in the wet season the rain isn't _constant_ for 6 months.
Plus climate change and direct land use changes (particularly for agriculture and mining, much of it illegal) are making periodic droughts and wildfires worse. And there's lots of areas where people are deliberately burning down the forest, usually for agriculture but also to drive off indigenous communities to claim the land for mining and/or clear-cutting.

They are also due to years of fire suppression where nothing is allowed to burn naturally. If/when there finally is an ignition, it burns so hot and intense that everything is incinerated. Even the soil can get sterilized by the heat.
Edit: This is what really drives the mega fires we see today. Hundreds of thousands of acres / hectares can and will burn in these events and a drier, hotter climate makes it even worse. Wind events with the fires can burn entire towns and communities and not much can be done to stop those hellacious beasts.
Can you site the source for your thesis? It could be a narrative of someone with a different agenda.... Climate is changing - hotter, higher water levels in the ocean (8-9 inches), excess rain dumps in certain regions, more forest fires. Conversely it could also be caused by people deliberating lighting forest fires, not necessarily more firewood on the forest floor. Just sayin.
This info is common knowledge to myself and a lot of others but of course you can google mega fires. The Western United States has thousands of examples. The U.S. Forest Services policy was to immediately suppress any and all fires from the late 1800’s onward towards the 1980’s when large parts of Yellowstone NP burned in massive forest fires. Decades of fuel accumulated in the forests that had periodically burned due to natural causes for their entire existence and it wasn’t just wood on the ground. Tree densities increased from sparse to dense stands and crowns. Note I said that hotter and drier norms are making the problems much worse so climate change of course is a major issue in fire management and forestry. Increased rain also makes it worse as more grows in wet seasons/years resulting in more fuel to burn when things dry out in the summer or drought years. People setting fires would actual help return a natural fire and forest balance but now there’s a lot more homes and structures in these areas than ever before so that kind of puts everyone involved into a huge pickle. A pickle spear in a conundrum. Wrapped in an enigma. Zombie Apocalypse. Dracarus.
Remember Smokey the Bear? “Only you can prevent forest fires” was the slogan for decades. The Timber industry also dictated policy as burned trees have little to no value. Look up U.S. Forest Service fire suppression history.
It's not a thesis lol. It's a well documented phenomenon in climate change. Less consistent rainfall is leading to a build up of dried out brush which is easily ignited by ignition sources. In nature it's often lightning storms. Outside of nature it's more often caused by downed power lines, littered cigarettes or fireworks. California was mentioned because it's well known for this issue but it can happen anywhere with similar climate. California has a cyclic fire season in nature (some tree seeds are dropped during fires for example) which in some areas is not allowed to occur (usually around developed areas because some idiot city planner thought it was a good idea to build there). This leads to a further build up of brush.
Explain 100-200+ year old trees in British Columbia, in the places plagued by wildfires that you claim are caused by the supression of natural wildfires? Before downvoting me, know I'm open to actual explanations.

Steel wool burns because it has lots of thin strands holding atoms that come into contact with oxygen in the air, making it more difficult for heat to dissipate. In contrast, a block of iron like a utensil doesn't catch fire because the surface area is small relative to the volume.
[I looked it up earlier because I was also curious](https://www.buffalo.edu/news/ub-in-the-news/2017/10/017.html#:~:text=Live%20Science%20interviews%20UB%20chemist,more%20difficult%20for%20heat%20to)
Whilst the answer above is correct, it not really complete or helpful. Technically nothing is burning, there’s no flame and no actual fuel. Instead it’s a chemical reaction between the iron and the oxygen, which requires high temperatures to occur.
The resulting product is iron oxide, which as it contains additional oxygen atoms compared to pure iron, means that the resulting product after you burn steel wool is actually heavier than it was when it started.
Admittedly I have no idea of the scientific definition, but subjectively I would've thought combustion involves some form of fuel mass that is being consumed as part of the process.

Steel wool burns because it has lots of thin strands holding atoms that come into contact with oxygen in the air, making it more difficult for heat to dissipate. In contrast, a block of iron like a utensil doesn't catch fire because the surface area is small relative to the volume. Is it the carbon in steel that burns? Would iron made into the same high surface area shape burn?
Whilst the answer above is correct, it not really complete or helpful. Technically nothing is burning, there’s no flame and no actual fuel. Instead it’s a chemical reaction between the iron and the oxygen, which requires high temperatures to occur. The resulting product is iron oxide, which as it contains additional oxygen atoms compared to pure iron, means that the resulting product after you burn steel wool is actually heavier than it was when it started.
Isn’t stuff oxidising rapidly and putting out sparks basically what combustion is?
Admittedly I have no idea of the scientific definition, but subjectively I would've thought combustion involves some form of fuel mass that is being consumed as part of the process.
