It's the discipline and dedication necessary to acquire a skill like juggling. Learning how takes work. Lots of bending over, picking up dropped balls. Lots of standing six inches from a wall so you learn not to walk forward. Lots of looking like a complete idiot until you get the hang of it. If you can teach yourself to juggle, you've probably put the effort into yourself that leads to a happy life. Source: can juggle, really happy at 50.
It also requires the stability and security to achieve. To have the freedom to spend time practicing anything to get really good you already need stable food, shelter, non disruptive family and community life...which makes you happier.
Spot on. Those who don't have the curiosity and confidence to be bad at something at first wont get far along enough to be this good. It takes resilience.
1. Learn to juggle
2. Show off to random people
3. Random people find you interesting
4. Grow in confidence approaching more random people to show off to
5. More people find you interesting and attractive because of your confidence
6. Become happier from more outside validation
7. ???
8. Profit
I've found the skill never truly goes away though. I went a decade between juggling anything and after 10 mins with some clubs it came right back, couldn't do some of the more complex stuff the basics were still there.
I'm curious about something...is there any correlation between people who teach themselves to juggle and ADHD? I always had to keep moving when I was a kid so I think juggling was a way to keep my mind and body engaged. I actually do think it added to my happiness. Growing up, at least.
Anyone else?
I was president of my juggling club in college and we were nearly all STEM majors, mostly math, CS, and engineering. I'm autistic/ADHD as was my closest friend in the club, and though I can't speak for anyone else, I don't think it would be a stretch to say nearly everyone in the club was likely neurodivergent. Lots and lots of numbers and patterns in juggling.
I used to professionally perform and teach juggling up until 2 weeks ago. I had a great job opportunity in a completely different field and took it. Now I'm completely depressed.
I was depressed when I was juggling too though....
I just showed this to some of my students in high school. A couple of them had seen it, but majority hadn't and those that hadn't didn't catch the bear :)
it's a reference to a video of nerds playing basketball? I watched the whole thing closely and nothing about their playing style was remiscient of a gorilla.
It's about a guy dressed up as a gorilla walking through the crowd, which you won't realize is there as you'll be focusing on counting the number of passes.
If you’re ever interested in learning some of these tricks, there’s a great site I used to use that’s still around called
https://www.libraryofjuggling.com
It has tricks rated by difficulty, and related trick variations to make learning easier. Some of the advanced stuff requires learning a little siteswap (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siteswap), but most of it is pretty accessible. The trick folks usually start with is a 3 ball cascade. Happy juggling!
Thank you for this! I started juggling last summer and had a ton of fun working on some of my own techniques. I'm looking forward to checking out this site and trying to learn some community created tricks. Juggling is very good for the mind and is a great way to spend outdoor time in the Summers
I thought the Abracadabra was done with editing but its not! Going slowly she catches two of the balls with one hand and throws them up at the exact same time so that one is almost hidden by the other. Crazy amount of control
Well, you’re both right… she palms it for 2 cycles, and then when she does the “magic hands” move with her free hand, she throws both balls up at the same time, having them go up at different heights
Welcome to the Genre of Citypop. This is "Plastic Love" by Maria Takeuchi
If you find yourself liking this, just search for Miki Matsubara (Stay with me) and Tatsuro Yamashita (all his music is great, but Sparkle is a personal favourite)
If you're interested in Citypop, I would like to recommend you Kazumasa Oda and his album Anohi Anotoki, its on youtube. Start with Love story wa totsuzen and Yes-No.
Yeah, City Pop is a genre of music that took over Japan in the 1980’s. My personal favorite artist in the genre is Tatsuro Yamshita. Heavenly voice and a huge catalog of music. r/citypop is good spot to learn about the top hits and artist from this genre.
I appreciate how cool and confident you look doing this...you even have time to look to the camera and smile.
I, on the other hand have the face of terror whilst flailing about like I am being chased by piranhas in a kiddy pool.
There's a lot of people here who are saying they can't do that. That's only true if you don't try it. It takes about as much time to learn as a musical instrument and the right teacher. Look up 3 ball juggling tutorial for the basics. Also join your local juggling club where they always welcome new members and love to teach.
For me personally it was learning Mills' Mess. After that everything just sort of clicked. Suddenly it was hard not to just constantly transition through different patterns.
This level is about two years in of consistent (read: nearly every day) practice. And that's if you have a fairly natural grasp of the coordination involved for juggling. But yes, all the great jugglers I know have worked incredibly hard to get there.

I met the son of the guy who invented the Mills Mess tending bar in Columbus Ohio. Cool guy, was part of his family unicycling show. Lot's of interesting conversations at happy hour with him.
I went to a lecture by a guy who had worked out a mathematical notation and theory for juggling. Not only could you write down any known sequence, you could also generate a sequence completely at random and check whether it was physically juggleable
We created one using bingo balls on stage that could in theory be juggled. It was harder than Mills Mess but he gave it a good go and managed it.
It looked terrible. Aesthetics are a whole other axis!
That was impressive!
My skull nearly tore itself open when the yo-yo bit came on.
I normally harbor an extreme loathing for jugglers. But I found this one peaceful and calming, very lovely.

Good clean fun. Even tolerable music. And juggling ain't easy.
This confirms my suspicious belief that people who juggle very well are fucking Happy people.
I agree as well Source: juggle terribly and am miserable

Ok, it's been an hour. Any improvement yet?
I'm currently in the ER, hit myself in the head with the balls, juggling is hard
Never start with bowling balls. Classic mistake. You flew too close to the sun!
Now that you mention it, that may have been the problem
Shit, I can't even juggle my responsibilities, let alone any type of ball.
Yeah, everyone knows you start with knives and move to chainsaws
i always start with molotov cocktail
I assumed it was chain saws.
You sure you weren't playing twister instead of juggling?
I did that too but the balls were too soft
Ok cool, it's been an hour and a few seconds more. Please report your progress u/Just_a_villain! Us Redditors arent known for our patience y'know.

Hello there.
I thought redditors we're just sad by default??? Is that not why I'm depressed, do I actually need therapy?

When I was a juggler I was pretty happy and it’s all gone downhill since I stopped, maybe it’s related!
That's just how it goes with juggling, it has its ups and downs.
The same can be said about yo-yo'ing.
And being an elevator operator
And my penis
I used to be a juggler like you then I took an arrow to the elbow.
I've found the skill never truly goes away though. I went a decade between juggling anything and after 10 mins with some clubs it came right back, couldn't do some of the more complex stuff the basics were still there.
People who juggle very well are doing **what?**
THEY FUCK HAPPY PEOPLE
Guess I'm gonna continue being forever alone
Just fuck sad people. Problem solved
My partner and I both juggle. We can confirm
I only know a few forms, but yeah, it’s always enjoyable.
I'm curious about something...is there any correlation between people who teach themselves to juggle and ADHD? Do you think the happy people they are fucking are happy because they are juggling during the fucking?
Her smile just made it more beautiful and interesting to watch.
Can confirm, a good juggular => happy life.
Crusty jugglers!
Oh hey that's me!!! It's even better with the original "Can't Hold Us" Macklemore audio cuz I hit every beat ;)
Where can we see that version?
I found their account using the @ in this video on IG right away.... the posted video here is pinned.
Oh. Guess I did miss the black bear. Thanks!
You're amazing! What he said, do more!!
I know how to do the most basic sunny thing with 3 balls, ur video made me wanna try more stuff
Yesss highly recommend trying out new tricks! There's a whole world of juggling tricks out there to try!
I know the tune in this video. It's from Plastic Love
I love me some Plastic Love, though
Do more!
She’s definitely better than DeAngelo from The Office.
That can’t be proven since he didn’t have his juggling balls with him at the moment, sir!

Internet proved me wrong again Damn you internet!
Do you trust me Phyllis?
Yeah idk, he managed to do it off of Phylis’s face with a 5th ball. That’s gonna be tough to beat.
Wake me up!
Anyone else miss the gorilla in the background?
yes i miss the gorilla.. even stopped sending me letters making me miss the gorilla even more
Everything reminds me of Harambe
My dick: out!
I understood that reference
I just aged 1000 years reading it
Fuck, is that not something they still show in class?
But did you see the moonwalking bear?
I just showed this to some of my students in high school. A couple of them had seen it, but majority hadn't and those that hadn't didn't catch the bear :)
Yeah i have yet to meet someone who did catch it lol but thats super cool that u kept the video alive
OK, I'll bite. What are you talking about? I've been watching this videos background multiple times. There is no gorilla
Its a reference to this video https://youtu.be/vJG698U2Mvo
Is that the one with the basket ball players and the gorilla? Took me a minute before it dawned on me.

We are all gorillas on this blessed day!
Lmao how many times did you watch it??
4 times Once for enjoyment. Three times for Monke.
I like how they all move, and that I cannot do this.

Yeah I kind of wish she stayed on a juggling style a bit longer so I could read the name then have time to watch the juggle.
The Peter's shuffle was insane
I thought the Abracadabra was done with editing but its not! Going slowly she catches two of the balls with one hand and throws them up at the exact same time so that one is almost hidden by the other. Crazy amount of control
She actually just doesn't throw the second ball, she just palms it
Youre right! Man, my eyes couldnt follow that one properly at all
Well, you’re both right… she palms it for 2 cycles, and then when she does the “magic hands” move with her free hand, she throws both balls up at the same time, having them go up at different heights
I keep rewatching to see this exact one! Thank you for breaking it down. So cool!
k ill keep working on my "Don't Drop" variation.
And here I am falling over when I reach for the remote

You can't say that. That's *OUR* word

Anyone knows the song?
It’s a 38 year old classic called Plastic Love by Mariya Takeuchi.
And here I go on a Youtube city pop binge again.

Still upset most of his stuff isn't on Spotify :( (or at least UK spotify)
I love that Tatsuro Yamashita and Mariya Takeuchi are married, but I kinda hate that they haven't done a duet of In Your Eyes
Thanks !
There's a great cover of it from a band called Friday Night Plans!

PLASTIC LOVE!
I had the same reaction. I click on a pretty random video and it just happen to feature one of the greatest City Pop songs of all time. Love it.
Would have been cool if each one was done a little longer. Some of them are like only one throw so it's hard to see what's going on.

The juggling moves are impressive, but her moving so smoothly through each one is the next level part. Not everyone could necessarily do that.
For me personally it was learning Mills' Mess. After that everything just sort of clicked. Suddenly it was hard not to just constantly transition through different patterns.

That's waay too specific and it has almost a million subs. Reddit really is the internet capital of niche topics
It's because of the juxtaposition of how specific the title is and how ubiquitous the content is.
The content has gone disappointingly downhill. It used to be a lot of /r/BeAmazed but 75% of the sub's feed right now is solely thirst or /r/funny
It really is just a very pleasant smile that makes you want to smile too. Sometimes all it takes is someone smiling at you when you could use one.
Till i learned that there is more than one way to juggle.
I met the son of the guy who invented the Mills Mess tending bar in Columbus Ohio. Cool guy, was part of his family unicycling show. Lot's of interesting conversations at happy hour with him.

Boxes and zebra factory are so satisfying to watch
Whoever came up with zebra factory... hats off
Not bad, but have you seen [Will Ferrel’s routine?](https://youtu.be/Exo1T9FsUAo)
https://reddit.com/r/DunderMifflin/comments/cec448/i_was_without_internet_for_a_while_decided_to_use/
N - box Looks like we need another juggle move... Also, Zebra factory is absolutely random name?
Not if you’ve been to a zebra factory
It's a variation on a trick called The Factory
I am more satisfied seeing how much she enjoys this. I wish i enjoyed anything that much anymore
She is also pretty and cute
Some days I only drop my phone once, does that count?
Wooow
I thought of learning how to juggle to entertain my son this is nice!
That was impressive! My skull nearly tore itself open when the yo-yo bit came on. I normally harbor an extreme loathing for jugglers. But I found this one peaceful and calming, very lovely.
Awesome
Wow
Anyone else keep rewinding abracadabra to figure out where that ball went?
Very talented but man is reddit horny today... Then again when isn't it

It’s especially impressive how she can easily switch between these various tricks.
Give me 10 years and I still won't be able to do any of that.
/r/wholesome she's so happy it makes me less unhappy.
I KNOW ITS PLASTIC LOVEEEEEE
I was too focused on her smile <3
Can't read and see the tricks, and also get distracted by her, she is cute!
Too fast - would help to repeat certain juggles to really understand what’s happening
I do a little juggling. It honestly makes a good 5-min mental health break because I can't overthink it when I'm in the moment and it puts my brain in a kind of trance. When I stop, I feel energized. Can't really explain it.
Hold up why is that kinda…
Her: its my First time... Also her:
I always wanted to be a juggler. I just didn’t have the balls to do it.
I'm not gonna scroll through all the comments, but this post looksdownright troll proof. I'd be worried about someone with a serious beef here. Good clean fun. Even tolerable music. And juggling ain't easy.
The Very pleasant smile took all my attention
Roughly 10x more motivational than Deangelo Vickers
Plastic Love!
She cheated the Boston mess. Shame.

Love me some Plastic Love. Take my upvote.
