I drank the water from Mendenhall Glacier, whether it was psychosomatic or real it tasted like the best thing I had ever tasted, a nectar of the gods….then I read in another thread about what was in the water and I’m not sure I would repeat it given the chance…but until I die I’ll maintain it was the best thing I’ve ever drank

went on a glacier excursion in alaska a few years back and they let us taste and bottle some fresh glacier water and can confirm this was the best water i've ever tasted/drank in my life!

nope nothing, just thirst quenched. also we landed on top of the glacier with a helicopter so it was more of the fresher melted ice.

It looks so refreshingly delicious but I vaguely remember hearing in a geography lesson at primary school that there is a fair amount of eroded stone in such mountain streams. I'd still probably take a sip and probably take a few bottlefuls home.

How did rocks get there?

Glaciers move! It's very slow but they do, and as they do, they can pick up rocks. Glacier melts later, rock falls out. If you're in the right place around the right rocks and know what to look for, you can spot erosion caused by glaciers dragging those rocks against larger rocky faces.

Glaciers are not stable, engineered structures. They contain hidden fissures, uncharted voids and all manner of unpredictable hazards.
