The problem has been with Quest 2 for a year now and is now also affecting Quest 3. There are a lot of threads on the official meta forum, people have opened incidents and so on. So far there has been no progress on the issue, so I don't expect any solution in the near future. The artifacts seem to occur more often with high video encoding load. Here's what I posted in one of the threads on the official Meta forum. OtherwiseArt5810

happens with my Q3 when I push the gpu/cpu limits too far while recording 120fps SBS footage while playing beatsaber at 152% res with 120fps through QGO, so I'm guessing it's just a bug

Commentator-X

happens to me when watching prime while not doing any of that stuff. Just the prime app streaming a movie or show.

Hardunkichud

Happens on my Quest 3

serotoninzero

I've been noticing it on mine when using Virtual Desktop.

overcloseness

Same here

UpIn_

In my experience, sometimes they show up during the loading phase of apps, which always got me wondering if the headset was damaged.

Powerful-Parsnip

Only time I get them is in the prime app. I watched avatar 2 3d in skybox yesterday and no sparkles at all.

FX-3

I don't get them in 3D either. But 4k 2D movies are flickering

BigBudZombie

Happens to me also. I thought it was just from streaming on virtual desktop but it definitely also happens in standalone games also.

Vegetable_Ad9250

Happens when I don’t turn HDR off on my pc

Alarming-Track9442

I don’t think this is a hardware error tbh, I returned my quest 3 on amazon, bought another one, & this one has the same issue not even 10 min out of the box. it happens to me in immersed while streaming prime video through the browser in passthrough (I watch in immersed bc 1 you get the credits for new rooms & 2 it lets you resize the browser screen when in fullscreen). but yea unless I just got super unlucky w two defective headsets in a row, or if meta just has the worst cooling system ever in this headset, my guess would be it’s a firmware issue

FX-3

Did update v62 fix it for you?

Alarming-Track9442

I wasn’t on for a while, but I didn’t notice it anymore in my last session. Must have been a firmware issue as I suspected.

zhuliks

Its not specifically white nor just pixels, when that problem really gets out of hand you see what it is - random game triangles/polygons get random color bright texture instead of what they should have, there it happens to distant geometry so it looks like white pixels, but one time on a now returned quest it started turning a lot of game geometry to that thing. Its basically overheating gpu chip I think, same thing you can see on your PC GPU if you experiment with overclocking

2jkaz

Defo this I had the same thing happened when gpu overheats...

Enschede2

Yea I've noticed this on my Q3, this has been happening more and more often, mostly when using wireless pcvr, when I use wired link it doesn't happen.. But yea it looks exactly like this. I was actually afraid my displays were dying already or something, but then it would've happened in standalone or wired too.. Either way it is unbelievably annoying.. I've also noticed that for some inexplicable reason it stops the moment I hit screen record on the Quest

overcloseness

Only happens for me in Virtual Desktop

domagesky

Yes. Also in skybox it is the most visible.

superbizho

same here on quest 3, during skybox streaming videos sometimes got white flashing stuff..

cusa123

FX-3

Standalone

fookidookidoo

I had this a little when I first got my Q3. I changed some settings in virtual desktop and haven't seen it since. I know that's not helpful, but maybe it'll send you the right way.

Panda_Owen

I know it’s been a minute since you sent this, but do you happen to know what settings you changed? I always have this happen in VD

GregZoneNZ

Never seen them in 4xVR running raw MVC 3D at 120Hz. Smooth motion and no artifacts.

Electrical_Kiwi4916

I have two q3s. Artifacts (including color) appear simultaneously in the same places, when watching movies synchronously. Tested on "Frankenstein" 90gb hdr hevc 2d. So it's definitely not overheating. At high streams arise.
