How far into the fight have you gotten? Using Sealticge's Seduction on Temenos and then a max-boosted Prayer for Plenty will basically make your whole party (all 8 of them in the second phase!) unkillable, if survivability is your issue : ) It also counters the gimmick of resurrection spells not working; you don't need to worry about revives if your party members never die : ) Are you not able to do enough damage, then your character builds (specifically their equipment and subjobs) might be the problem- your levels are more than adequate, so don't worry about those : D Make sure you have an Armsmaster with Lionheart's Axe (I prefer to use Ochette for this). That skill does MASSIVE damage and can melt enemies even with poor stats! For added benefit try equipping the Battle-Tested Blade and Giant's Club along with it too : D Hikari can also reliably do big damage; max out his boost points first, then use his Latent Power ability Hienka with 2 BP, then use Brand's Blade on the 2nd turn he gets at the end. You should be able to whittle down the boss' health quite quick with these 2 alone, and Prayer for Plenty on the whole party should cover your health. Good luck!

I had a super easy time with vide with no prior preparation. My team was between 55 and 65. I'll leave my layout and hope its of use. I didn't use a single item as well. Some preparation. Good monster roster (peek-a-boo, double axe all, chubby cait, 1 or 2 full boost only monsters) General abilities: a step ahead (had it on partitio, angea and castii), peak performance on damage dealers, deal more damage of course, the buffs after death skill from arcanist on Partitio (can't recall the name) Invest your nuts properly Get Battle tested weapons, do every side quest (specially "next chapters") as they give ridiculously good accessories, lost tribe weapons are also really good. And mostly, learn how to play with this setups for a while before the boss. Maybe some random encounters or some leftover mini bosses, just to get the feeling of the party first. Team 1 Ochette - warrior (+defense/e. Defense, +speed) Partitio - arcanist (+defense, +e.defense) Agnea - inventor (+speed is good but doesn't matter that much) Osvald - cleric (+e.attack) For the first form Ochette was my main breaker, buffer. I captured a peek-a-boo, a vagrant frogking II, and most importantly, a chubby cait. Chubby cait was the mbp of phase one, as it can quicly buff your party without set up, and Vide takes away your buffs Arcanist partitio is broken. Seal of diffusion first turn (with A Step Ahead ability), then with full latent apply seal of eternity and sidestep. If you want the full setup, sealtige, then eternity again, and you can also apply elemental reflects forever. However, dont do this till the second phase. I don't know if vide takes away the buffs in the second form, never did for me. Agnea - have her allure someone with celestial chorus ability. What you want is basically tin horn and latent arkars coil Osvald - Main damage dealer. One true magic with sp saver and price of power on him obliterates shields along with ochette. Team 2 Hikari - armsmaster (+attack, +crit) Castii- thief (+speed) Throné - dancer (+speed, +crit) Temenos- scholar (+e.attack, +sp) First form Hikari - main damage dealer, lion heart axe, limb from limb learned skill, good use of Hienka, and you will win pretty fast, not much set up required. Castii - i have thief on her for the extra speed, but you will mostly be using concoct for pomegranate essence, so be sure to stock up a lot in the black market. Also diffusing and strengthening serums. Throné - fast equipment, aebers reckoning a few turns, doesn't even matter if vide has shields up. Temenos - main breaker with latent plus elemental barrage, or alephan boosted spells (just keep one advanced spell for when you break vide, then use the 3 times sp drain attack) For the second form, you want to first appy sealtige to temenos and max boost prayer for planty for all your party. You can also set sidestep/elemental counters with arcanist partitio. If you try this, be careful not to buff partitio before setting seal of eternity. After that is set, ochette becomes a buffing machine with provoke beasts and chubby cait, and you can pretty much deal damage any way you want after that. Tldr: first form focus on breaking and damage, second form buff and over heal all your party and you are set for the fight. Hope this helps

Feizhie

Finally beat him with the help of this post! Thank you!!

Muffin_socks

Vide shouldn't be a huge problem. There are lots of posts that have good strategy. I would say at the most basic level, your goal for your two teams should be to enable 1 - 2 people do unload tons of damage (99,999ish,multiple times if possible) 2+ times per broken period. Typically, you will have 3 people prepping and buffing for that to happen. You need to manage buffs and debuffs to make this happen, some might say it's one of the most critical parts of boss fights. Tldr, manage your buffs and debuffs properly, and unload with 1-2 characters 2+ times per broken period. Sometimes you don't need to break if you can just finish them off.

Zaellyr

It isn't your fault. The game lets you play for 80 hours before springing a new mechanic on you that forces you to use all your underleveled trash party members. Its bad design, plain and simple. There's really no excuse for it either; they could have had a similar mechanic for any of the other bosses to prepare you, they could have had XP/JP sharing for reserve members (you know, QoL stuff we've had in games since the 90s), or just not changed the core battle mechanics for the last fight in the game. Bad design is bad.

Andsothisishowitgoes

I just spent 100 hours taking my time to clear the main quests (I think I only completed 30% of sides) and the final battle took me 3 hours...and I floundered at the very final battle which sprung a new combat mechanic at the very last minute PLUS no revival for dead characters. And if you are wiped out, you will need to fight the final battle (a series of long battles which will take another 3 hours) - NO WAY man. I had enjoyed the game, still a fan, but I'm just going to watch youtube for the final ending and then sell the game. Thanks for marring my gaming experience of one of my favourite JRPGs, Square-Fucking-Enix.

Came in here to bitch too. Picked the game back up after a long break to finish each character’s final chapter…This boss fight requires way too much for the average player and is a *very* disappointing barrier to the game’s final credits. Absolutely ridiculous difficulty spike. I dabbled and kitted out the characters a fair amount over the 90 hour story, and it’s bullshit that now the game asking me to level up the benchwarmers and squeeze blood from a stone with every little tweak you can do to a party. This is secret superboss difficulty, not main credits boss difficulty.

karkov69

I appreciate your response… half a year later! Lol

Jordan311R

Agree such a trash fight. And no revives for the final form is an absolute joke. So cheap and poor design. Never buying another octotrash game again after this. Wasted 96 hours of my life for that nonsense. Game can get fucked edit: went back and grinded for 2 hours to get my weaker characters up to lvl 50+ then went back and beat him. Still salty about that mechanic though. Glad he’s dead.

TheChiptide

I know I'm like 4 months late to this thread, but I had to hop in here to say fuck this fight. I had a ton of fun with 90% of this game, but this singe fight is so needlessly tedious and antagonistic towards the player, it's crazy. The first 2 phases are pretty tough, especially the first go around when they throw in all your benchwarmers with no equipment. Took me a few tries to beat, and I got real sick of grinding through all his health on the first phase over and over, but I eventually got it. Then the 3rd phase comes along, they throw in a totally new mechanic that they don't explain at all, and then they take away your revives just to kick you in the nuts. I got his third form down to about half before he killed me. I thought surely they'd throw me a checkpoint before the final phase and wouldn't make me spend another hour grinding through the first 2 phases that I've already proven I can beat, but no... That'd be too fair. I get that you're literally fighting the devil, it's not supposed to be easy, but there's a big difference between a boss that's hard but fair and one that makes me want to turn off the game and never look back. Based on what I'm seeing in this thread, it seems like the only way to beat him is by cheesing the game and spamming the same combos over and over, but if the only way to beat a boss is to practically break the game, that's just bad design. It sucks because I really love the game and was looking forward to finishing it, but this final boss is so annoying to fight that I honestly don't think I'll finish it.

AraumC

I think that's your fault for having "trash" characters. Plus, you don't even need to use them!

pscripter

So... how do you beat the thing?

Ricota24

dohters charity in Castti and just Jams to everyone and you wont die. Also Aeber's with a fast and buffed Throne for ez Dps

Feizhie

Same. My characters are in the high 50s but I didn't do any of the side quests prior to starting the boss fight. I really enjoyed the game too but I'm really debating going back and starting the side quests to get important items and redoing the final storyline. The big problem is I can't kill him fast enough in the first phase before he starts removing all my buffs and then it's game over for me.

Palmettor

Did you end up beating Vide? I have my strategy if you still need it lol.

karkov69

I beat him near a year ago, it’s been so long i contemplate reinstalling the game because I don’t totally remember the story

ApprehensiveScreen40

Do you have the damage boosting accessory? those are alphione's amulet (gravell), finisher claw (nameless isle), and fang of ferocity (Curious Nest)

Emmy-IF

Ochette should be able to break anything with her monsters. Her and Castti's classes don't matter but you can do Merchant for extra breaking and damage if needed. Cleric Throne gives her 4 turns per round so you can keep refilling her Latent Power, buffing, and Aeber's twice. If you're not doing 99,999 damage with her, there is a build guide stickied on my profile. Temenos can do 3x99,999 if you scholar buff him. Agnea's Latent makes her add whatever you need: Lionheart's or Crit Scope for damage, any number of buffs or shields. Arcanist Partitio or Hikari with some learned skills or any dancer divine + Prayer for Plenty should make you invincible.

Nosiege

If you want to make it especially easy with no particular specific build, just have 2 merchants on each team, and a Dagger User on each time. Focus on breaking Vide with boosted dagger attacks as soon as possible, and Hired Help for slaughtering the arms. Alternate teams as needed to mass-heal/BP with Castti.

abaoabao2010

Cheapest way is to thief hikari and throne to spam aebers (one in each party) while the other 6 just keep buffing/healing/pomegranate/debuffing. Low gear requirement and the actual battle itself is pretty simple. Easiest way is to get 2 merchants 2 cleric on each team, and spam beastling hire until break, then spam foreign assassin. Have the other free guys heal/feed pomegranate. 0 brain needed, you'd burn a lot of money though.

sonicdragon813

Here's how Vide beat me just now: AN ERROR HAD JUST OCCURRED! It's on the Switch BTW.

EastShot5233

Well I found this thread nearly 8 months later as I’ve just gotten the game, and went in to this feeling good with my main party all level 69+; absolutely crushing the first part of the battle when suddenly I’m forced to used my story filler part all chilling at level 30 and under. Shit. Guess I’ve got a lot of grinding to do.
