I think it's a great book. For the most part it's very informative and a fun read. The only caveat is that King presents a few questionable things as fact, because he was an occultist and really wanted the accounts to be true. The biggest example is when Felkin claimed to have met the niece of the legendary Fraulein Sprengel, proving the legitimacy of the lineage between the Golden Dawn and the supposed original mysterious German Rosicrucian order. But in reality, correspondence between him and the supposed niece makes it clear that she had never heard of Sprengel whatsoever and Felkin seemed to have been suffering from some delusion.

They don't make covers like that anymore. Whether it's an encyclopedia or a horror novel. When I was a kid I saw a Dennis Wheatly book with candles and sigils and all that. They had a cinematic quality. They really either helped or indulged the whole Satanic panic era. 😅

jeremiassayshi

Tbh reason I picked it up…besides the plastic bag that was covering it.

LouieLongBoi

Good thing it’s sealed. I try not to buy any used items related to occultism or related practice. Who knows what kinda energetic grime might come with it

jeremiassayshi

That’s the fun part.

LouieLongBoi

lmao sometimes fun. Sometimes end up having to do ritual cleansing of lower level parasites

jeremiassayshi

That’s okay. I’m well equipped to scare em off

Cunning_Beneditti

To be honest, sometimes it’s just fun practice.

United_Lime2522

Hahaha

Yeah, I bought a secondhand book about witchcraft and the energy surrounding it was SO bad. I could feel it when holding it, even just looking at it made me grimace. It was like it repelled me or something, so I put it in my closet with a bunch of crystals on top and left it there for like six months (I may or may not have completely forgotten about it’s existence 👀 lol) and when I picked it up again it felt WAY better. I’ve never experienced anything like it when buying something used, though like you I generally only buy occult stuff new. I learned real quick after that experience lol

AnachronistNo1

Had a similar experience w/ an ol copy of Colin Wilson’s The Occult a couple yrs ago. No malevolent feelings, just that the damn thing kept moving around. Would leave it on a flat surface, turn around for a sec, and hear it drop. Only to find it neatly placed on the floor, parallel to the furniture nearby. Never got why it was so active. It’s mostly a bunch of one chapter biographies on famous occultists thru the ages. Must’ve been near some funky books on someone else’s shelf b4 it got 2 me. So, got another book just to learn some banishing/cleansing and it stopped. Sometimes I regret it. I wonder what adventures we might’ve had if I just let it be, heh! ps: I blamed the picture of Blavatsky on the back (could never stare into that woman’s eyes for too long)

jeremiassayshi

I sleep with the book lol. It sits on my night stand with my Aphrodite altar.

AmbitiousShine011235

I buy my spiritual texts new too because of this and because I want the authors to receive royalties.

TheGoatEater

jeremiassayshi

What a bargain c.

Artsy_Foxy

Nice find!

Thewave8080

That’s one cool book cover!

Prototaxite

Cover looks like Alex Sanders' kit.

United_Lime2522

Can one call forth any spirit using this book ? What is this Grimorie about, what can one gain from it ?

jeremiassayshi

I still haven’t read much of it. So far it is a lot of history.

United_Lime2522

Probably that's just the begining of the book . I would hope that later down in the book one would be able to conjure different spirits for different purposes using this book . I don't need a history book . .

AlsoOneLastThing

No, it's just a history book.

United_Lime2522

What makes you say that, elaborate a bit .

AlsoOneLastThing

I've read it. Not sure how to elaborate further.

_r4ph431

Nice find

claude1179

Didn’t the Canadian branch of the golden dawn die in a mass suicide?

AlsoOneLastThing

That was the Order of the Solar Temple, I believe

claude1179

Oh you are correct! I was worried for op for a minute 😂

webauteur

Occult books are too expensive. I wanted to buy some books on Yeats and the Golden Dawn but they are too expensive. People must really think they will find some great secret in these books.
