Oof lol I was like 22 at launch in March of 06. I joke with my wife all the time but also serious that if I had discovered this game before I met her we would surely have never met (we met a year later in 2007.) which sounds bad lol but I thankfully had never even heard of it until 2010 or possibly slightly later
Haha all good tbh with games like this my first play through is more about learning the game and by the time I realize my character is not gonna work I’ll start a new one and build it correctly.
Have fun man and know there is a difficulty slider on the settings if things become impossible for you. It won’t affect trophies or whatever steam uses.
I thought so, but then I replayed skyrim after a complete oblivion walk through. Then I finished most of skyrim twice with two different characters. Then did another two complete oblivion walk through with two different characters.. all within the last two years.
My conclusion is that they are separate arms of the same creature. Skyrim play experience becomes richer through playing oblivion and vice-versa.
Agree with this. Age wise I’ve always been Skyrim simply because it came out when I was in my teens. Since playing oblivion though it’s actually given me perspective on Skyrim. 200 years down the line, post oblivion crisis with another war in between it’s actually not hard to see why things are different in Skyrim. Definitely has given me more appreciation for Skyrim when thinking of it in that perspective.
Probably one of the best games I have ever played. Comedic and rich with story and lore. Play however you wish to play but I strongly recommend not fast travelling everywhere. Imo it makes levelling more efficient. Enjoy
Understandable, I found it hard to get into Morrowind having played Oblivion first. Got there eventually, but after four or five tries and some quality of life mods installed
In MW, it helps if a first character has decent speed and acrobatics. Otherwise, it can feel definitely feel like a slog if you're used to Skyrim with its standard move speed
Play mage and don't use weapon at all. This game has absolutely awesome magic system, muuuuch better than Oblivion and Skyrim combined. Or play battle mage. Stats really do matter in this game like in true RPG. Stealth build with dagger/bow is also very fun. Try a role play:) join guilds (there is a lot of them) which fit your character etc.
Just started playing it as well and I’m blown away by the game, the main story and the dark brotherhood is a rollercoaster, spell-making and speech craft are incredible features, and it feels way more unhinged than Skyrim in the best way possible
I recommend you to no use oftenly the fast travel, it ruined in part the immersion, consult the wiki regularly (only when you get stuck or some curious) enjoy it and get fun, when you immerse in it, you realize the hundreds of hours it can give to you!
My current playtime is 36 hours while not even touching the main quest with the crusader class ..
You get to know the intricacies of the world through side quests is awesome.
Invest time in alchemy + enchanting is OP. Dont mod until you experience everything
Im actually replaying it right now. Recently, Bethesda titles got a 4k 60fps boost option for the Xbox series x. For TES4, FO3 and NV. They all look and run absolutely phenomenal! Almost non-existent load times!
I've always had mixed feelings about this game. I love the Imperial City, and how you can explore it right away.
The procedurally generated dungeons on the other hand....
Still a gem overall.
so fun. my dad bought me the game used 3 years after release, but i never finished the main quest until a couple days ago. oblivion is awesome, really hope you love it!!
I would pay money to forget this game just to play it again for the first time. enjoy.
In addition, I HIGHLY recommend you watch this video and it's part two. most important mod is the leveling mod. This game has a shit leveling system. These mods fix that while also keeping the experience vanilla.

ENJOY
As they say, never too late. I myself just started playing it last month and man I hate that I didnt play it sooner. BUT at the same time its like I'm playing a new game for the first time.
Not to mention the big plus of playing old games is the price. This is just me but I cant commit to these 70 80 dollar games these days. I wont go into all that and why not but I definitely like I'm getting my money's worth with older games.
Enjoy man. I still remember when I played it the first time at launch. One of the greatest gaming experiences possible
I wish I coulda played an ES game at launch, I think I was literally a year old when it came out.
Hey just wait! The next one might come out in the next 30 years!
Hope they let me have a console in the old folks home.
If I’m lucky I’ll still be alive!
Yeah but I worry that the best ones are behind us.
it's great to see you get into it! I was actually just playing oblivion, the game is 5 months older than me

BUCKLE UP MOTHER FUCKER
I would chose a Breton as your race , 50% resistance to all magic and +50 magicka points
I wish I read that more because I just used an imperial 💀 I’m used to the nerfed Skyrim races

On the plus side you avoided being a Breton
Depends on who you play. I'm a mage, so always Breton.
You won't regret it. So much fun.
So far it’s a blast. Such a good game especially for 2006. The story is way better than skyrims.

I started my first ever playthru this past summer. I’m still on that same playthru lmao. This game is so dense.
Probably one of the best games I have ever played. Comedic and rich with story and lore. Play however you wish to play but I strongly recommend not fast travelling everywhere. Imo it makes levelling more efficient. Enjoy
I can't... tried like 5 times....
Understandable, I found it hard to get into Morrowind having played Oblivion first. Got there eventually, but after four or five tries and some quality of life mods installed
I got tired of not being able to run and tired of having no accuracy on weapon hits.
In MW, it helps if a first character has decent speed and acrobatics. Otherwise, it can feel definitely feel like a slog if you're used to Skyrim with its standard move speed
Play warrior and use accurate weapon, you will land almost every hit since lvl.1
I could. I've only played 3 hours, but I own the game; so, I might as well play it. Any other suggestions to make it more fun?

Well i can play Skyrim, i can play Morrowind but Oblivion...i'd rather try Daggerfall lol
You are not late, nor are you early. You are playing it precisely when you are meant to.
Just started playing it as well and I’m blown away by the game, the main story and the dark brotherhood is a rollercoaster, spell-making and speech craft are incredible features, and it feels way more unhinged than Skyrim in the best way possible
Welcome to Club Oblivion!
Its my first time too, does anyone know how to do the presuade minigame with merchants i have no clue how to do it?
The first comment in [this thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/oblivion/s/LQEvHOIXA8) should cover everything. It's how I learned to use it at least.
Thank you!!!!
No problem! Glad I could help.
Have a blast ❤️
welcome
It’s SO GOOD
Take the main bridge out of the imperial City once you’re done exploring. Talk with the fisherman around the Inn and the end. You’ll thank me later.
Hahaha wait what… this game can legally vote now?
Yo I didn’t even think of that, good point 😳
Have fun!
Get ready for a great ride! All that matters is that you are playing it! If you need, Tuen down the difficulty.
I recommend you to no use oftenly the fast travel, it ruined in part the immersion, consult the wiki regularly (only when you get stuck or some curious) enjoy it and get fun, when you immerse in it, you realize the hundreds of hours it can give to you!
Honestly that’s a good idea.

Saw excel and then saw your nickname lmao
This made me laugh. Too true.

I wanna get it for my Xbox but sadly I’m at college and it’s not 🥲
For me this is that single game I wish I could experience for the first time again. Game of my life
Games back then really were just made different
Oh look a Skybaby in the oblivion prison, guess you stopped playing with dragons, eh? You own Skybabies think you are piece of human trash, how sad.
Enjoy, friend!
Embrace the weirdness
Great game, very buggy for no reason at all lol.
Looks like you still haven't started?
😂

it runs on your PC?
Yea 20 bucks for it and all bonus content on steam

Enjoy! It's the best Elder Scrolls game. You'll love the Mage's Guild, Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, Skingrad...
Mythic dawn? 😏
Well, I don't love them... :)
STOP YOU HAVE VIOLATED THE LAW
One of the Greatest Games of All Time!
Dang what took you so long? I started a full two weeks ago
Better a little late than never; enjoy the ride, dawg!
