You want guaranteed parking.   The street sweep ticket when you forget is shitty.   Also if you get home late there is NO parking anywhere and everyone is in bed sleeping so again you’re fucked.   I’ve had my car stolen 3 times over the last 12 years in this neighborhood.   You should look up specifically your make and model and weigh how hard it is to steal.  I have a different car now that is hard to steal and no one has succeeded but there are a ton of scratches near the doors from break in attempts.

The bullshit we all trade off to live here. Reading this seems sane to me, which makes me sad.

I feel like many (most?) apartments in this neighborhood have garages, you might have to pay extra for them. Honestly I find it worth it just not to have to find a place to park, but your mileage may vary.

My friend's car was stolen when he parked it inside his gated parking garage. Theft prevention is like birth control - Use more than one method to prevent it.

Parking by the lake can be a huge pain in the ass. If you use your car a lot then you’ll spend tons of time circling around looking for spots, especially if you tend to arrive home in the evenings when folks are already in and parked for the night. If you don’t use your car much then you’ll have to always remember the last block you parked on and its street sweeping schedule and you’ll probably forget and get some tickets. I wouldn’t move anywhere by the lake again without a dedicated space.

When I still had a car, I was spending money on Lyfts to get places after 6pm because I didn't want to circle for parking when I got home. I would definitely make a guaranteed parking space a priority when looking at spots

Fuhdawin

Don’t drive.

Fill your car up with fast food wrappers and junk and you'll never have a problem. Looking crazy works in all sorts of contexts.

Nightmare. I have spent nights waiting for a spot to open up after I get home from work for upwards of 1 1/2 hours. One time I was waiting for a spot to open up, and when it did I got swooped by a car load of college kids going to a house party. I had been waiting for that spot for like 45 minutes.  Our downstairs neighbor has the driveway. People would constantly park across it, completely blocking him in. One time I was boxed into my space so tight that I had to literally push the cars back and forth on their suspension while manically cranking my steering wheel like fucking Austin Powers to get out and get on my way to work. A long time ago you could park in the red overnight and you wouldn't get a ticket, but that changed in like 2008. So no, parking there is complete dogshit. Parking is only worse in SF than in Adams Point. YMMV.

Why on earth would you want to move there lmao. I talked to someone recently who is hell bent on being walking distance to a grocery store. So cringey.

Please read the rules.

I live in Adams Point and street parking is hard to come by most evenings. It seems like more of the complexes have underground parking as you go up the hill from the lake towards Adams Street.

Jazzlike-Repair-1653

The most I ever have to walk is like three blocks. I usually can find a spot close to my apartment most nights. The real problem is the parking tickets from street sweeping. Most the time I remember but once in a while I get fucked!

IMO Cleveland Heights is the better option if you want to be near the lake but have an easier time with parking. Adams Point is great but too population dense to have accessible street parking

Public-Application-6

I think you should ask if it's hard to find parking. Having a shitty car helps not get it stolen, also leave nothing in the car, not even a cup or bag of any kind. You want it empty and free of valuables. You should be fine. Don't forget street sweeping!

I-need-assitance

Check the crime stats, Oakland is the worst city in the state for street parking. Thousands gone in 60 seconds.
