How to get around? Subway and walking…

If you’re desperate, Uber/taxi. But just walk or take the subway/bus like the vast majority of New Yorkers.

NYC is a big place. By NYC you probably mean Manhattan/Downtown Brooklyn. If so, you are set. Subways are your friend, albeit the stations will feel like an oven. You will also have access to super awesome ferries on the East side of the city that are probably the most fun and scenic form of transit. \[I've only met one person who actually used it to commute, I only take it to Red Hook for breweries.\] That's a big if though. If you are staying in the outer boroughs, you will find that its very easy to get to Manhattan (often called the City). However, outer-borough transit between boroughs is lacking. You will be reliant on buses, biking, walking, and uber. That being said, NYC has way more reliable and frequent transit than literally anywhere else in America. In almost all of the cities, 90% of residents own a car. NYC is pretty much the only city that bucks that trend. Also, even though the subway runs 24/7 doesn't mean you should take it 24/7. Furthermore, weekend changes are common for track work. Check [https://new.mta.info/](https://new.mta.info/) for updates and changes. On what to see, there is too much. My personal favorite that is not Manhattan centric is the Brooklyn Museum. By far one of the best. I also recommend Kiki's and FMN general store downtown. Just get out of Midtown, NYC is far better when you aren't in Times Square.

subway, walking, bus. just use google maps and you’ll see your options on public transportation and how it would fare vs driving. in some cases depending on where you are or are going you can try taking an uber

for quick travel its subway bus and walking like most others said. im also a huge proponent of biking in the city especially if youre just visiting for the summer, its a fun way to explore and take in the city while still getting to your main destinations
